Hi everyone, i was just wondering how many vic members are part of the club that dont own skylines just because i own an mr2. Im a member of other clubs but want to join a club that welcomes other cars other than mr2's. The reason for my question is because myself and a group of mates with different makes of cars were interested in joining a club.

haha ok thanks. Well wen i get my licence ill join up asap. um slight change of topic, can somebody please tell me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If i get my licence after july 1 will i be on the new licence system which doesent allow me to drive any skyline (turboed) or will i fall under the current system??? I cant seem to get a straight answer out of any1 so i thought i should see what u guy know.

That is the current system, so you are stuck with a non turbo :glare:

ok thanks, like i thought. Looks like im gonna have to make do with the 4age for the next 4 years or so. Really unfortunate though, a stupid system for a stupid public who believes in it. All the system changes is what cars people drive rather than the peoples mentality regarding unsafe driving.

So true, 100kph into a tree in a Skyline, WRX, Camry or Falcon is going to end up the same way.

The change of laws was the number 1 reason why I'm now driving a corolla. I hate the laws just as much if not more than you do.

I want to join SAUvic, but not sure what I can get out of it owning a Toyota. I'll go on a cruise and probably get left behind with my HUGE 1.3ltr.

At last count, about 40% of our members own something other than a skyline. This includes many 180sx's, S15s, S14s, WRXs, EVOs, Datsuns, various Mazda's, Holden's, a couple of BMWs and about 10 Toyota's :ermm:

Adam/Rob - Alot of our events don't require a fast car/skyline anyway. You can always spectate, help out or jump in someone else's car for a cruise.. plenty of people do that already.

Grape grazing in Feb is a good example.. obviously you wouldn't want to be driving home, so there's an SAU bus :)

I have a 1.3lt too :ermm: , welcome to the club.

I reckon the chances of getting caught for driving r32 during the sau cruises is pretty slim.

If i was a cop and saw a horde of skyline cruisers, id go after all the 300kw+ skylines :ermm:

quite a few also own zeds :ermm:

Yep as others have said, definately don't need a skyline. This club is more about enjoying the car you have safely and in the right environment regardless of marque.

Unless you plan on battling for the top 3 at events, you also don't need a fast car. Cruises with SAU VIC are just that, not a high speed run. Sometimes a twisty route is taken before getting some lunch and heading back. As an example, the weekend before last, a few of us did around the bay and having a few hundred kw or one hundred made no difference.

A number of social events take place outside of cars such as karting, pub meets etc so no need for a skyline or a fast car.

:ermm:

I was the first intruder into the club that didn't own a skyline or any other Nissan badged car when I first paid up. Don't worry about it too much, as long as you have an appreciation of the cars, then you'll be fine.

    • Hi soviet_merlin, We appreciate your concern regarding this possibly being some sort of PR/Political hype, I assure you that is not the case, I wish we could claim something like that, but in this case, we merely reached out for comment on the basis of the outrage we too felt, as those heavily in the automotive industry. Ps. the original source in the social media post is CarExpert not CarExplore.    Best, CE.
    • Made a bit of a discovery, but while I was cruising, I randomly decided to test to see if it worked and it showed up on my IC7. The entire time I tested it before, I never thought to turn the ignition on. I only tested it with head lights turned on but with the ignition off. Huge oversight on my end. I’m a dummy. I know.
    • G'day all, I have drilled and tapped the hole for the relocation of the timing belt tensioner. That was straight forward. I'm unsure if I need to also put another hole for the smaller stud that the spring behind the tensioner catches on (this is how it seems to work in its original spot). Or do you not use the spring behind it and just torque it down? Thanks in advance, I did a search but couldn't find anything related and it doesn't mention it in the rb30det sau guide.
    • Hi All,  just thought I would provide an update as I know smooth (Matt) was on this forum from 2003.    my brother Matthew passed away end of may 2024 at the age of 41 from liver failure. I am not sure how many of his original team krazy friends are still on here or active but thought it reasonable to let the forum know.    if you have any photos or pictures it would be great if you could share them.    it took me a while to work out he was active on here.    thanks so much
