Uncomplied Skyline In Aus

Recommended Posts

hi

just helping a mate out,

his found a skyline for sale but is uncomplied and unregistered, the owner says he has import and compliance docs, the car has been like this for 2 years in aus, hasnt been in an accident, and is relatively stock bar some rims, turbo timer, blow off valves (all easy to remove and replace with originals), he questioned him about the period of time its been sitting here and the owner said the compliance has been extended.....

does all this sound right? could it be complied? in nsw ? (car is in nsw aswel)

any info would be good

cheers

nah it wasnt imported as a "track car only"

i dont know much about these importing/compliane things but track only cars dont need compliance right?

his got the paperwork for this and import docs.....main thing that worrys him is the amount of time its been sitting here in aus....

thanks again

Ask the owner whether he got an import approval from the workshop that is compliancing the car. Iam pretty sure that the once the vehicle arrives in Australia it has to be complianced within a year.

You can extend the time period for compliance every 12 months if it hasn't been done yet. If this guy says that's what he did, then he sounds like he knows what he's talking about. Ask him who the compliance guy is (find the name on the import approval) and go to the DOTARS website and look up his telephone number. Call him, and if the compliance guy says he won't comply the car for one reason or another (i.e. aftermarket intercooler, accident car, etc.), than you should probably steer clear of this car.

cheers,

question you should be asking is why has this car been sitting for 2 yrs and not complied...do not under any circumstances part with any $$ until it is complied and registered...or you might end up with a whole heap of useless metal. Personally I wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole as a lot can go wrong even with a car thats been sitting for 2 yrs. Plenty of other fish in the sea.
