If someone I paid to teach me to drive grabbed my steering wheel, there's a list of things I'd potentially do in reaction.

Making my car go faster isn't on it.

Yeah... But if you weren't 100% on it, ie from another country where cars aren't the norm etc. Not as well educated etc... It can happen.

As some of you know I do defensive driving, and I've had someone (in a manual mind you) do that before. Jump on the brakes and the accelerator at the same time, after being told not too many times before on the same day, after she had told us she could drive fine...

All I'm saying is its not easy. As the instructor your first reaction is the brakes, then you find out whats happened you need to go for the clutch as well, all while trying to drive the car from the other side, and look where you are going...

its like when you see those senior drivers or the odd unco one in the news ploughing into a shop or bus stop...they panic and slam on the accel eventhough the know they shouldn't. no one can really control or predict human instinct.

do you guys remember that tv show where they try to teach some of australias worst drivers over a period and the shit they did when learning. there are people like that out there unfortunately.

I'd say you are a complete dropkick for saying that just because she had an accident. How would you react if someone grabbed the steering wheel off you, never mind someone learning that's had minimal experience and would have freaked out when this happened...

You Sir, dont get it.

some people just DONT have hand-eye co-ordination. By the sounds of it,this women is 1 of them especially in the driving department. So i believe 'those' people shouldnt be allowed to drive.

And your grabbing the wheel while driving crap...umm my driving instructor who i paid to teach me, never had to touch the wheel once. So i couldn't answer you on that 1. And if he did im sure he would of changed our driving route. But thats just common sense.

I agree with the fact she shouldn't of been charged.

It was quite clearly an accident (Based on the evidence and story provided). I remember when this event happened amd its funny how people dont even know the story and choose to comment that she should be locked away.

News-frickin-flash pal, not many crashes aren't accidents! Frankly it should be at the very minimum negligent driving, at the maximum vehicular manslaughter.

She KILLED someone, cause another to lose their leg, ENTIRELY due to lack of due skill, care and attention on her own part. If I lock up the brakes at a wet intersection and plough into a car, killing someone, I will BE charged, I may go to jail, I would certainly be in a lot more trouble than this woman.

Bleeding heart bullshit is all it is. Who cares about her traumatic past; already got her into one of the world's best countries, now its a get out of jail free card?

As far as making sense of this she didn't mean to do it though?

At the same time, Ms Deng pushed her foot on the accelerator, not the brake, and the car veered into the queue.

No one knows what they would do in the situation, and she's probably shat herself and hit the wrong pedal.

Simple..

Ok this is a joke.

The driver should never be allowed to get a licence, seeing as she suffers post-traumatic stress syndrome. What's this 3 year ban BS? She could be out there in 3 years ramming bus stop lines again, trying to find the indicator.

Obviously in this case she packed it and hit the wrong pedal. She used her sydnrome as the reasoning why she can't drive for bollocks in dangerous situations, such as navigating a turn.

A girl died, old man lost a leg, and others injured. Leave the instructor, he tried to stop her- she accelerated! She's the problem!

:D

I can't believe there are people on this forum saying she should not be charged! lets replace the woman (WHO WAS AT FAULT) with all you bleeding hear types - now, do you think the magistrate would be so easy on you regardless of licence type (L's, P's Full)!?!?! No Fu*king way! go back to the most basic requirements of holding ANY licnece and it stipulates that you MUST remain in control of the car. The fact she has had the 'previous traumatic event' SHOULD NOT have been taken into account at all!

SHE KILLED SOMEONE'S POOR DAUGHTER + gets to have another go in 3 year!?!?! WTF! hopefully the DPP will appeal it to a higher court (criminal charges) if not the affected people should pursue it through a civil action!

How would YOU feel if it was YOUR daughter/ wife/ sister/ girlfriend not coming home that day?

definately the instructor has some questions to answer, if she wasnt ready to drive on the road, she belongs in a car park untill she is![\QUOTE]

I will always remember an experience with my daughter driving in my Starion (Turbo Manual) who had approched a corner way too fast and did not slow down much.

I nearly went to grab the wheel but prayed that the previous MANY hours spent in a supermarket carpark doing extreme braking and accelerating and turning around trees in a safe and deserted controlled area would come to the fore.

And it did, she went around under perfect control as I had a heart attack almost.

She was just getting to confident because of the hours spent in the carpark!

She has never had a prang though in 10 years or more now.. like the rest of them I taught the same way.

    • I would not be surprised if you are the only person on earth that has the interest/desire to do that lol.  The Haltech base map is a really good starting point, the car will fire easily and drive very well, even on mild boost levels. To me, following your advice sounds like some sort of ancient Chinese water torcher lol (this is not an insult Josh, never change <3)
    • Those car show concepts from the 2000's and 2010's like the Floria and IDx were brilliant and should've gone ahead, at least one of them. But neither Honda nor Nissan are thinking about affordable performance any more, which is truly sad.  Even if Toyota's liquid hydrogen ICE development reaches the point where it's commercially viable and the infrastructure to support it, Honda/Nissan would have to wait until Toyota allow fee access to their patents to offer it with any smaller performance models they released to take advantage of it.
    • A sporty manual RWD coupe with a IL4 Honda engine would only be a good thing I assume we won't see anything released for a few years though, unless informal talks and designs have been going on for a few years,  and due to the current, and future, emmisions and safety requirements, I assume anything "sporty" they would do would be at least some hybrid thingie And hopefully anything they are thinking of has nice lines, without lots of plastic and fake bits hanging off it like that horrendous FK8 that looked like it was designed by a 13 year old The other issue of course in the current market is cost, currently the type R is around $70k, a twin is around $50k Meh, I'm old and grumpy and would rather buy a older model car and waste my coin on that than buying anything currently available new
