Hi SAU brethren

I feel it's time for a new battery as i just threw a crappy one in for RWC and i've been told about general benefits for the ignition system of having a real good battery, that and it will go flat after about 1.5 days of the car being armed (another issue altogether)

So... what brands should i be looking at? Car is a SI R34 GT-T.

I've seen 'dry cell' being thrown around a bit?

What CCA rating "at least" should i get?

What am i looking at paying for a real decent battery?

And yeah... whatever else i should know about getting a good battery :worship:

anyone else have any opinions on what battery to get? (don't have a full-on stereo setup, so prob don't need anything massive)

If its the S2 r33 with the battery in the boot. To keep it in RWC or Safety Certified you need a dry cell battery or a wet one with an external vent (run hose/vent through hole in boot pan)

Small and compact, starts my R34 easy and i tested it pretty well one day (accidently)...

i left my lights on ( H*I*Ds) for a good hour at least. Now they zap a fair bit of power and i was pretty worried, but sure enough, cranked over straight away.

Ill find out the brand and see what CCA it has (Y)

I too am looking for a new battery for my R34. I'm looking for a fairly top of the range battery that will be able to handle my alarm and sound system. Cost is not an issue, I just want something that is high capacity and will be able to handle music being played while the car is off and not go flat.

I have read the group buy link (yes all 12 pages) and it seems to me that a dry cell battery is the way to go. However I want to mount mine in the bonnet and not in the boot as has been suggested. Optima seems to be the best brand to get (although these are deep cycle which is prob not what i want?).

Does everyone agree? Also, If I go for Optima should I get yellow or red top?

I just bought (literally about an hour ago) a new D31 Optima yellow top... retail around half a grand... I'm going to have a bit of difficulty fitting it in the boot to be honest... I'm going to have to move the fuse box over, may have to make up some mounting points... I dunno... and it's pretty damn tall too...

But I don't think that is for everyone, an optima of suitable size will do what you need, I just happened to need something rediculous... like the rest of my car :(

This may be a noob question, but why do most people opt to install the battery in the boot instead of in the bonnet where it belongs? Is it only because the after-market battery is simply too big to fit in the bonnet where the old battery was, or is it for another reason?

I think in the S2 R33's +onwards the stock oem location is in the boot. Usually to shift weight to the rear, make room for intake piping, bigger/forward facing plenums etc. Also makes amp wiring a little easier

Only 32s and before had them in the bonnet... all 33s and 34s to my knowledge have them in the boot...

Well I have a '98 model R34 GTT which I imported myself from Japan and it came with the battery in the bonnet. Now I'm curious as to whether this is standard for my model or if the previous Japanese owner moved the battery from the boot to the bonnet. Can anyone confirm where the factory battery was placed for my model skyline?
