lol. those fake drilled rotors.

oh man. ive had a *good* experience with them.

first time i ever went to my girlfriends place, when she lived with her parents. blue vt commo sitting out the front, with fake blue rotors. i think to my self "oh lawd" then i see a red barina in the driveway.. yes, a BARINA..... with red fake rotors... i laughed so f**king hard....

its worse, coz her 50 year old dad, who has been a mechanic for eleventy billion years put them on there...

lol nice thread.

this is what i think a ricer is, feel free to correct/add to it.

a ricer is a driver who puts on 'unneccassary mods'.

for eg. a GT wing on a lancer. even when a wing doesnt come into play until above 150km/h.

a ricer is also a person who knows nothing about cars and acts like they do giving advice.

here is a ricer

ok so "the pulley pulls the turbo making it spool the drizzle?"

That is just disturbing. How can anyone be that stupid?

BTW, I'm installing a new 100hp pulley onto my turbo tomorrow...

generally if sumone says hahaha only milk and juice comes in 2 litres i yell and say its a 2.6 ya fag and thats f**kin quick milk

Easy to beat - only cheap goon comes in 5 litres.

That being said, i have an atmo falcon that eats rice for breakfast. well... you know what i mean.

My opinion of it. Is "wannabe" cars. Where the modifications attempt to make the car into something else. i.e gts's with gtr kits and badging. Fake Evo kits, Type R badging. Shopping lists, T- Wing spoilers on cars that never see the track, bonnet scoops that lead to nothing (dont assist cooling/intake), chrome hubcaps, exterior neon/led lighting on a car that ever see's a carshow, fake brakes, Atmo BOV's on non extreme cars, etc.

Every modified car is different, some look cheap and tacky with there exterior mods (rice) some look awesome (my opinion saying that these become not rice and reaching into other catergories in the car scene.)

Anything pretty

Anything that doesn't contribute to the performance of the car

The most common one is rice lights. They're everywhere, vans, utes (sorry mini trucks) excels.

Aftermarket gear knob, definitely rice. Whats wrong with the stocker? If it falls apart and starts cutting up your hand, fair enough.

Most of the wheels on the market, rice. I'm willing to accept my 17x9.5 +15 NS01's are rice. They are my street rims and are only there to look pretty. My track rims are mis matched second hand pieces of crap that i don't care about so i can repair with a hammer if necessary

Big stereo, rice, on a few levels that i won't go into

tints, rice. wear sunglasses and park in the shade. save that 25 grams in added weight.

spoilers of any description are generally rice. Most do nothing to improve the performance of the car. A spoiler on a factory car, factory rice. A spoiler on a car that never sees the track, just rice.

big brakes with alloy hats and mono block calipers can be rice in certain situations. If the car never gets driven hard whats the point of having them other than because they look tough as hell?

When ever you can see that form is being placed ahead of function you can reasonably call it rice.

My friends and i all track our cars and are fairly serious about it. We have a pretty harsh definition of rice.

There is a difference between tacky or stupid and nice looking cars. Go to a car show, a lot of the cars there have very little in the way of performance mods, but they look good. The owners know what is classy and nice and what is just down right discusting. GT-R badges on a stock GTS is just wrong. Type-R badges as well. Neons on a stock Gemini (The lights are worth more than the car!) or LED wheel nuts are a big no-no. I think there is two meanings of Rice. Rice as in crappy modified cars that only look good to the eyes of the owners (A face only a mother could love??) and then there is Rice, which is us. And Cruisin33 has kindly volunteered to remind everyone of that. Thanks Dave, we all appreciate it!

This thread's still going :)

Rice: Modifications such as Neons, Fart Cans, Vinyls to give the illusion of speed or a show appearance usually performed on (but not limited to) economy cars...

Rice Burner: What some people call Jap cars...

/thread

now, isnt it a bit shortsighted to class a car from where it comes from?

I agree, just like saying every Commodore driver is a bogan. There are some very nice commodores out there, and some are very ricey! Like one I've seen near my house, white VX with a black roof, panda style! It looked discusting and I nearly threw up.

THAT is rice!

    • Yep, replacing all those hoses is kind of just bog standard if you're ever back there. Only hose on the back of the engine I have yet to replace is a vacuum hose for the wastegate. I'll probably do it eventually but it's in such an annoying spot.
    • I was actually just planning on replacing the fourth gear parts in the gear box that I broke … like the synchro hub or cone. And any other parts I need once I open up the transmission. That a bad idea? The rest of the gears feel tight. these parts shouldn’t be too much … just the labour here won’t be cheap. Just replacing these in HK would be around 2k aud including labour.    how much is a new r33 or r32 transmission?    thanks for the good info as usual
    • I chose a bad time to buy, at the time there was no gtst's for sale in NSW and my options were qld, vic, or sa and not the greatest examples or too far out of my budget. Ended up picking this one from adelaide sight unseen and got a bit stitched up as you could expect but i dont fully regret it, its just a shame people cant be more transparent in this day and age.
    • IMO just buy a whole R33 transmission and swap the whole thing. Use a palm nailer/air hammer with a roll pin punch to drive the shifter rod end roll pins out. The rod end is discontinued so don't break it. Use gasket dressing on the OEM paper gasket instead of RTV. I personally would not pry on the shifter cover tabs, I broke one trying that instead of just smacking the side with a dead blow rubber mallet to shock it loose from the RTV the last mechanic applied. If you can't get the flanges totally clean and free of any residual RTV and/or you might have a gap that is bigger than it should due to flange damage use RTV on that surface instead of the OEM specced anaerobic sealer. Anaerobic sealer is most likely the right sealant for the job, it's just too easy to mess it up with too large a gap or bad surface prep/roughness seemingly. If you do rebuild what you have it's for a whole gearset that can take high torque. Don't bother with OEM at that point.
    • Little hose. Big hose. They're all waiting to kill the engine.
