What you reckon is basically attached to being unable to drive a faily slow car off the line at the drag strip.

The lessons are usually short and mostly it just involves using the two ears on your head. Biggest problem with guys racing thier street cars is that they talk amongst themselves about how to launch a car, it's a pool of ingorance. And on this forum it's been that way ever since. I remember copping all sorts of flak when I ran 13.8 in a fairly stock gtst on 205's and even more when I ran 13.4 on the same tyres, I seem to recall you gave me some of that flak back then too? ;)

Based on non-wanker power numbers

170-ish rwkw is enough for a high 12 in a gtst

190rwkw is an easy 12, simple as that. And proven to boot.

Now why don't people start asking how they can do the same thing?

Your mph says you have an 11 second car there, so the good news is theres plenty of time to lose from your 13.3 :)

Err I don't recall ever giving you flak on your 13.4, people like you/Robo's/2Rismo I have followed the builds and progress on quite closely. You however have seemed to be pretty quick to give me flak - I remember saying (just because I was amused by it) I did similar mods to what you had and ran a 13.4 on a gtech type device, though I did have a different dyno reading to you.

In regards to practice and time, where I am we are lucky to have a drag meet every couple of months - and doubly lucky to get a prepped track (actually, airstrip complete with painted markings). I'm not really too keen on practicing on the road and it tends to offer a completely different surface anyway so hardly counts. More often than not the dragstrip is slipperier. When we DO have drag meets, 3/4 runs in a day is about the usual. I practice when I can, and have very rarely been beaten by a car with similar mods when I have raced. Actually the only times I have been beaten so far have been by cars running some kind of drag radial or semi slick tire, I've never raced on drag tires. So yes you guys COULD probably go a lot quicker than me with my car or very similar if you ran my car on your track. However, if you lived in my area you'd probably be struggling to beat me unless you reckon that off the bat you'd beat someone who has been racing at that strip for 7 years now.

What you guys are evidently completely useless at understanding is that a lot of the rest of the world use Dynapack dynos - which DO read higher than Dyno Dynamics dynos. What this means that you'd look stupid if you came to an area which everyone runs their cars on hub dynos and ran one of their 190kw cars, went far slower than you promised and then proceeded to say that their dyno read wrong or that the car just didn't have that power.

I reckon/would like to think my car has a very low 12 or maybe an 11 in it to if I could get my hands on some drag radials and get to a drag strip - I'm hoping to have a go at it to. My 13.3 was the first time I got to the strip and I'm definitely not professing that its the quickest the car will go with the current power, I *know* there is more in it with practice.

Not quite sure who you're referring to but the rest of us are talking about chassis dynos on cars in Australia. Noone has mentioned the rest of the world and in Australia at least, DD chassis dynos are the standard for power comparison, like it or not. Ahh true fair enough, we're used to saying "rwkw" even for hub dynos. Anyway on a more positive note I finally have an AVC-R in the car and will be tuning it to try and give me nice flat controlled boost and HOPEFULLY will be able to get onto a drag strip this weekend :yes:

While we have such experienced racers here, and talking about getting ECR33s going quicker... I've had a little bit of axle tramp issue with my car running street tires (Dunlop Sport SPMaxx) - I intend on getting subframe bushes but this whole week I've been doing other maintenence/improvement stuff like oil change/replacing rocker cover gaskets/doing plugs/getting boost control sorted and just run out of time. I've been told drag tires CAN "soak" up this problem, and have some Hoosier DOT Drag tires on offer for this meet - I don't want to race if its just going to aggrevate the axle tramp issue for fear of breaking something. Any opinions on this?

last night i mananged me first 12 in the line,

got a 12.931 @ 109.62mph with 2.062 60ft

previously i could only get 13.1XX @ 107mph with 2.1XX 60ft times

that was the first time i ran a 2.0 60ft, had the shitty talon tyres on 15psi, i find it so much harder too hook off the line with the back of the car stripped off dead weight

When I took my first car to the strip I spent probably the better part of a season 'practicing' and it wasn't till I actually had a guy walk up an say to me 'you seem to be having trouble getting off the line' that it dawned on me.

All drag strips around the country on street meets are quite often lacking a drag meeting prep. But, the argument is that such slow 12second + cars don't really benifit much from it. And in my experience thats true. Some of my old cars (non-skyline) ran 11's and 12's with consistant 60ft's irrespective of track prep. A track is usually prep'd for the top fuelers/funny cars or mad idiots driving whatever they now reffer to altered as, where grip means safety even more than times.

With your present mph I'm pretty confident I could get your car down a 1/4 mile of greased up slip'n'slide on 205 tyres covered in soap in a mid 12. :D

Should be hitting the track tonight boys. apparently Im getting a set of free 265 17s to be squeezed onto my stocko GTT 7.5s.

The tire shop told me to reverse the tread, so they are not going the direction they are supposed to in order to channel the water etc off the road... apparently they hook up alot more. anyone heard of this?

Cheers, I'd really like to think it could be done though I have never seen anyone get anywhere near that quick on street tires. I've not let anyone else drive my car, I actually done fairly well in other peoples cars though. Other people have driven my car (not experienced drag cars) and succeeded in doing impressive burnouts hahaha. Runs are that few and far between that its hard to convince yourself to give the car to someone else to have a go, especially when most of the experienced/fast guys here are running AWDs or drag radials so the launch etc isn't really comparative. Again, I know of hardly any Skylines here which have gone faster than I have on full street tires - even with more power than me. The only ones that have are trapping >115mph.

If you're ever in NZ, you're most welcome to give it a shot - I'm always keen to learn haha. Otherwise, any tips on launching an R33 with a solid single plate clutch and a .82a/r GT3076R on street tires and/or drag radials please let me know :) The car was piece of piss to launch with the stock turbo, I just never actually managed to get to a drag meet where the track was actually dry. I got the thing down the strip with catback exhaust and pod filter (stock intercooler and boost) in 14.1 on a greasy damp track.

Thats more like it, not bad 60, good trap speed and a better ET. You probably havent got alot left in it, maybe 0.1 or .2 tenths. Unless you go slicks and really drop the 60'.

just got back from queensland! so now its time to get my clutch and a set of good street tyres.

for the rears im after 18inch 255/40/18's. what would best suit grip needs and how much?

gettin some ajustable camber arms too so i hope it all works for the best :D

gettin my new tyres on tomorow. went for the maxxis MAZ1's all round. size for rear 265/35/18 and 245/40/18 in the front. hopefully there as good as they say they are :P

anyone had any experience with these?

I used Maxxis MAV1's i think, where the tread pattern looks alot more agressive.

Mine were 245/35/19s on my V8 commie, but no, they werent that grippy at all lol.

The 60ft i got best with those was 2.280.

too many variables in the manuals... no two launches are the same :D

Haha yeh. sadly up here we only get about 5 runs on a night and a drag night is once every two months.

Any tips on what clutch tactics and revs you used when launching your near stock r33?

how long did you slip the clutch for? wat revs etc

im hoping to learn ;) 2.3 is terrible
