Hi guys,

as we discussed in the thread http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/10...th-t203868.html , I've decided to change the timing belt (and few other bits) myself and I am going to use that as an excuse and host a BBQ :banana:

I am not sure on the date, we can pick up either Saturday the 9th or Sunday the 10th, lets discuss it. I am in Mosman Park.

If you know how to change the belt, or want to get your hands dirty, or got the tools, or, at least, how to operate a Weber bbq :angry:), or simply want to catch up - you are welcome to come. My son s 5.5 y.o, so if you want to come with your kids - thats fine, we'll let them go and do what they want:) I don't have a pool, but beach is few minutes away.

Unfortunately, they are not for NEO engine, hope someone can help me and say if there are any differences.

Also, would be nice to know, what exactly needs to be changed, except timing belt (water pump, other belts ??), where to get them in Perth and what are the part numbers (Should I just check Stagea parts thread ?)

I'm in! Sunday would be the easiest for me.

I also have a fairly decent tool box too (does anyone know where I can get my hands on some steroids so I can lift the bloody thing into Teh Pulsar Fury? :banana: )

I am also gonna put my hand up to bring the camera, funky bowler hat with press card in the brim, and a notepad so I can knock up a step by step guide specifically for Stagea's.

Sunday is good for me too as my son will be here (little one at 5 wants his mom to get WRX or Supra and race my Stagea :angry:). the only one thing that concerns me is that majority of spare parts shops will be closed. Well, I know couple not far from me (O'Connor), they should be open on Sunday anyway..

i'd be in but im pretty busy next weekend myself.

Dont forget a harmonic balancer pulley, preferably a narrow one so u can get it in without removing the air con radiator, i bought one from super cheap auto and its TOO BIG to fit so see if u can lend one from someone thats narrow and wide enough to go around the balancer.

besides that its a super easy job to do. Ive done my rb26 in my stagea atleast 20 times (doing cam shims meant removing the timing belt everytime), if u need any advice while doing it then u can give me a call on my mobile, i think Dale will have it and if not give me a PM and ill send it to you. I live down Joondalup way, if i was closer i would call in and help.

Also dont forget to set the engine to TDC when u remove the old belt so then u only have to line up the 3 lines on the new belt and tension it up not TOO tight or it will whine alot, i have a slight bit of slack in mine and around a 10mm gap between the belts around the tensioner and the one around the idler pulley.

How narrow does it need to be? I have one, but its pretty old (only used it on Holden's) so it may not fit. Hey Brad - can we unbolt the air con condensorr and move it out of the way without disconnecting it?

the radiator will have to come out no matter what its too tight otherwise. The air con condensor can possibly be moved enough to clear some room for the pulley as u mentioned Dale.

Just thinking about it some more and the stock balancer on my 26 has 2 threaded bolt holes so u can use a pulley on it, so if u use 2 bolts and the correct pulley it will be easy as, i have the pulley if its needed but im gonna be extremely busy this weekend on my own stagea so wont have time to come down, if u like i can take a photo of the pulley needed and its about $20 or so from super cheap auto.

How else did you get the balancer off, if you didn't use the threaded holes? I thought that grabbing it with a jaw puller would stuff it?

If you could just measure the length of the centre bolt of your puller I will be able to figure out how much room i need and wether mine will fit. :blink:

i used a jaw puller on mine everytime on the stock one and no problems, never ever tried the pulley method, but its how its supposed to be done. I have an ati balancer now so no more threaded holes and only option is to use the jaw puller :rofl: I have the generic puller kit from ABW or something like that, usual supercheap stuff lol. Im sure u will have plenty of room with that unlike the jaw puller i was mentioning earlier.

In terms of parts for 100k service I was thinking about timing belt, water pump, water pump belt, aircon belt, power steering belt, oil filter, oil… Air filter done almost 20k, so probably needs to be changed too. Not sure about spark plugs.. Have I missed anything ? Coolant, for example ?

hey dale.. just saw an interesting video on youtube.. there was this lady and goat- no wait..

basically it was a clever way of loosening a really tight wheelnut

this guy baiscally got a breaker bar and socket onto the nut - and under the end of the breaker bar

he puts the trolley jack under the end of the breaker bar and cranks away!

dunno why he didnt just jump on it

novel idea :P

      Hey all, not sure how active SAU is anymore but will ask away anyways. Just wanted to get some experience on the 2008 model GTR CBA model.  I've hit that age in my life (43) where I'm like fk it time to get my dream (midlife crisis) car. Looking at importing one in and seeing if these can be reliable if the main flaws are fixed up. Plan is to keep money aside to do the following straight off the bat to future proof it: * install a stage 1 rebuilt trans with all new bits and pieces.  * install a new Bellhousing from the later model GTRs. Or potentially an upgraded stronger version like MAD or ATR. Besides the above two things and typical maintenance items anything else you'd recommend doing.   Been speaking to a few people and the engine on these are very reliable apparently. But keen on the view of the community here. Hoping to find a nice grade 4.5 with low mileage in Grey. I'd go black but swirls too easy. Look forward to your responses and feedback. Cheers

      Do Alan and Keith work on Skylines now? I remember buying stuff from them when I owned my Ralliart Lancer a few moons ago. Definitely genuine guys and be excellent if they dealt with the skyline platform as well.

      Hey all, I'm Gaston from Sydney's West.  I was a member on here when I was a younger lad and owned a mint R33 GTS-T. Ended up selling it and getting married having kids (yadda yadda) we all know how the story goes. Now I'm back with the intention to get my midlife crisis (dream) car ... a R35 GTR.  You'll see me about asking questions and searching the forums. Good to be back and can't wait to get back an Import again.

      I have to put something here in order to post the photos. From what I could gather there's more enthusiasm for modified cars now than there has been for years. There were probably more younger people there than older (me included lol) which was a good sign.  It did seem like the record least amount of representation of the 90's era hero cars on display though. Like maybe one or two examples of S-chassis Nissans, and maybe 3 or 4 R-chassis. By comparison there were a lot of Civics from that era but in all there were about 10 - 12 EG/EK Civic Type R.  Euro exotics are always there in large numbers, led by Liberty Walk...... say what you will about kids using markers to scribble on a Ferrari F40, it did seem like a stunt to infuriate Ferrari enthusiasts, or Ferrari itself. I wonder if there's something more to it. Either way LBWK have done some heinous things to a Lamborghini Miura this time. They should stop now.

      Engines and drivelines are not war stoppers for me mate, busted arse bodies and un-obtainium parts and panels are though Both cheap Brumbies I looked at had trashed tubs and a fair bit of rust
