Well my shipment finally cleared customs... broker had a brain failure and it got delayed 2 weeks but shit happens.

I hope the turbo is better than their spelling (turbolader) i used a few of these K5's on larger 3l engines and on a GTi-R (high 300's) these things howl so i ordered one i reckon should suit a 2.6 (added a few housing to the order too just in case) also pulled in a huge favour from my friends at blitz R&D and got a ABE-san (D1GP R34, and BLITZ TAS 2008 supra fame) to knock me up one of his famous manifolds.. thing is sweet, nice short equal length runners and spot on turbo placement away from everything... and the material is killer (for those who went to TAS 2008 it looks like the ORC had on display material wise)

This year we wanted something far more agressive (little laggier but with an very steep power curve), the T518Z were just to responsive and without external gates the car was quite painful to watch... sounded flat (due to no gate) compared to the competition even though it was making the power...

Lets just hope the Kinder Suprise front cut engine lasts long enough for the new built engine to be finished... damn garage and kitchen (final assy) is a assembly line of SR's and RB's ATM  and the 26 is last in line :(

oh yeah beware of the black shitter/ sleeper....

looks killer man, K5 700R? same as nomuras 34? cats car should go mental! iv heard alot of people say the car doesnt sound like its got 300+ kw at the wheels, but this should really do some damage!

how much do these turbos cost? are the t3 flanged?

ease up kids :)

Honest question tho trent, How does a responsive package that cat had before with 300 rwkw feel flat and painful to watch? I would of thought that a responsive 300 rwkw would be AWESOME to drive compared to a peakier and laggier say 330 - 350 rwkw. I could be wrong but thats why im asking ;)

functional gt-wing

Is it functional?

I remember dick johnson many years ago saying that the wing on touring cars dont start making down force till around 200k's and there wings have a lot more angle than yours.

ease up kids

haha sawl good, just having a laugh.

much like comapring say a disco potato on a sr20 to the L2, the power delivery of the disco is very linear and drops off compared to the L2 and this combined with maximum grip makes for a car that isnt fun to drift higher in the rev range. We found with the T518Z it made power too early and she found herself drifting from 4500-6500rpm which translates to lower road speed. We need to be drifting at 5500-7900rpm to maintain competitve road speed.

we should lose a couple of hundred (500-600) rpm of response and gain a much harder violent mid hit that carries all the way to the limiter. Singles are the only way in my oppinion for drift.... twins just tame the violence outta the delivery and once spinning tend to be harder to modulate, even the RB26'd GTST with twin HKS 2530's i tested for a customer was similar (347rwkw) and it was that drive that convinced me for drift a well matched single is the way to go.

yeah as for the wing i fitted up a Down force meter and did some testing it is all in this forum somewhere... i can tell you now we run the wing on full deflection at mallala but on first setting at simmons plains and oran park as the car will not transition smoothly... it bites too hard over the hill. A quick talk to other drivers like corporal and so on will confirm this... corporals wing broke at Oran and he felt it straight away... robbies car is a great one to watch too as it makes so much smoke you can actually see the effect it has on the airflow at the back of the car. We are not talking 100kg of extra downforce but enough to give a noticeable edge... and all the small things add up to complete a package. We were at sekia hills with a few guys including the track operator and they were testing the front canards on the URAS GT kits... the driver commented on how much more turn in the car had compared to before... to much for his initial liking in fact and it took him a few laps to work out he could carry an extra 10 kays into the first corner..... not much but it all adds up.

At the end of the day cat likes the feel it gives her whilst drifting, especially on wet days and thas all that really matters.

Its hard to tell if a car really does have 300 rwkw when its tuned on the street  plus t517's are too responsive now i have heard it all.

p.s yes i saw a dyno sheet of cats car on a dyno :P

:) its hard to describe as it is the first time in over 10 years ive encountered the problem.... it really seems far too linear more than anything. its hard to explain without drifting the car. As for response 8cm are one of the best twin upgrades available for GTR (and the family daily was awesome, now some lucky dude in sa has it).... the 10cm's though are far from street friendly and i would recommend 2860's over them all day long.

for those who would like the dyno graph i have it attached but only the 16psi runs not the 18 and 20... i forgot to print the graphs (peak power was just shy of 350), it pulled about 7-10rwkw more at 16psi at speedwells but that is dynos for you and proves the power output is genuine. The rpm was calibrated also.

Put simply i want 350 but with a cliff shaped delivery curve.... the opposite of what i usually reccomend for customers street cars where area under the curve s far more important.

here is also my first comparo i did way back in 2000 on the 180 (SR20det) luckily my choice to go K3 paid off, to be fair to the HKS 2835R it was a 0.87 rear and the GT2835 0.61 ended up on james vahoumis S14.5 drift car, back then i had to use excell as i did not have access to the dyno printer so i compiled all the data and plot it manually. :) this time i will just plot it over the T517z curve....:)

When i saw cats car, i knew it was packing 300kw+ when i saw it on dyno and when i saw it on track, to me it looked like it had issues of too much traction at calder etc, but when cat got it rolling this thing was unbelievable, picks up good speed while torching the tyres, very good exit speeds.

also acsplit: cats car wasnt tuned on the street :)

thanks for the explanation trent, makes a lot of sense now. One more qestion tho, you said you ran the 8cm rears before, and wouldnt recommend the 10cm housings due to the extra lag.

Wouldnt the 10cm housing provide that extra agressive powercurve your after? or is it a case of too much lag?

wish I had a turbolader. been stuck here some some crappy ones that are just turbocharging :D

it will be interesting to see the difference from twins to single.

I drove a GTR though the adelaide hills with 10cms and it was terrible.... felt like 2540's... forever chasing boost. I have done some roughish calculations and believe the housing and rear wheel/compressor combination of the K5-660R (decided against 700r) should put me where i want to be....

    • Ha ha ha! I know those feels mate I've finally got the garage cleared enough that next weekend I'll do some actual work on my car (hopefully). Unfortunately garage isn't usable after 10am at the moment That said, I've done a lot of work this weekend on helping finalise a friend's Production Race car. Full started Christmas Eve. We're down to about 8 tasks on the list, including "get a wheel alignment". Sometimes it's just easier working on someone else's car or project than our own stuff 😛
    • Ha ha, ended up going it alone.  I just sent it (in a very nervous fashion).  Once I'd released the locks and it didn't automatically start spinning out of control i felt a bit more confident.   It made some loud sounds (cracking and creaking noises) when I first spun it which got the heart rate going again!  I couldn't bring myself to leave it tipped on the side.  I feel a bit more comfortable having back right side up while it sits there. I'd get angry with your last point but you're 100% correct! 😅 Even yesterday I managed to distract myself at numerous times to make a bracket to fit an LED flood light off the back of the house and fix my sons pushbike.  There were other little taks nibbling at my brain for the rest of the day too...
    • Probably one of the more nerve wracking experiences of my entire life! 😂😂 The balance (centre of gravity) is out still but in a direction that gives me comfort!   It's quite bottom heavy still meaning it takes a bit of muscle to rotate it.  The plus side of that is that it wants to to go back to upright.  Better that than wanting to go all stranded turtle on me!
    • hmmm that's not ideal. This is a pretty new engine right, will be interesting if your engine guy has any theories about causes
    • A universal ball joint removal c press kit is better money spent and will work for the Hicas ball joints.  Here's a 45$ CAD Example. ATPEAM Heavy Duty Ball Joint Press Kit with 4WD Adapters | Professional 4 in 1 Ball Joint Press Removal and Installation Tool for Cars and Trucks | Universal Ball Joint Tool with Storage Case, Ball Joint & Tie Rod Tools - Amazon Canada
