hey folks,

Was out last night cruising and i kicked the clutch in third gear and heard a loud bang noise! Had to limp the car home by just jamming it into 1st then third gear...I think its the thrust bearing as the car was making a funny noise when i had my foot on the clutch? Kinda like a metal on metal rattling noise? The clutch pedal is still stuck to the floor! Its an r32 89 model...

Any ideas on what the problem could be?

do you know how to remove a gearbox? i dont think it would be the pedal box. was the clutch slipping when u drove it home? could be the pressure plate

no clutch slip on the way home! never had a problem with the clutch slipping, just the funny whirring noise when foots on the clutch pedal!

Im guessing its the bearing gone or pressure plate or both....dont want to fork out for a new os giken twin plate as im scared to look at the price of those....I think thats whats in the car at the moment. shit.

VB- - I said pedal box, not gear box. A broken clutch plate won't cause the pedal to sit permanently on the floor.

white32, have a look under the dash at the clutch pedal mounting area - you should be able to see if the box (framework) is broken.

Yep i think its the pedal box! The metal frame that the pedal goes through has a crack in it and there is another piece that doesnt look right, kinda looks like it should be connected to something? My mate has a wrecked r33 anyone know if it would be the same as my 32 pedal box? If so might steal the part off him! It looks like a rectangle frame that sits on the fire wall... Not sure how to rip it out though? Just contorting my body into that possition under the dash gave me a cramp in my arm....not a fun place to hang out for too long!

Thanks for the pedal box call! I hope thats all it is...

Joey.

If it is the pedal box then the clutch pedal should also feel a little bit loose and have some sideways movement. I've done it in my 32. There are 2 bolts that hold the pedal box. Two hold it on to the firewall and bolt through to the clutch master cylinder. The other one is bolted directly above the clutch pedal behind the dash.

Any workshop will weld it back together for you. $20

i dont get how the pdeal box will cause grinding noises in the box when he pushes the clutch in, and why it would cause a loud bang, fair enough the metal is cracked but how loud was this bang?

Was like a metal popping sound....Ok, yes i broke the pedal box! It was cracked on the fire wall side and also the bracked on the side where it is welded had broke off also... Have replaced it with a r33 item! Started the car thinking all would b good then no deal!

Car still wont go into any gear...thinking it must be the bearing???? I guess its time for a real mechanic......

haha didnt see that one coming!

anyway, check master/slave and also the clutch fork, and in particular the little ball thing it pivots on, that let go in mine a few months ago, one little bolt and i ended up getting new master/slave before i found it, point is look everything over first

Thanks for all your input guys it helped heaps and best of all it only cost me $20 for new pedal box off my mates wrecked r33....sweet.

Later Joey.
