every new p-plater should attend a defensive driving course before hitting the roads.. compulsary. Also alot of new p plates should understand power, and being sensible with the power their car has, you can drive a big power car around all day everyday without speeding easy.

its a shame, but the minority that have given cause for these new laws are the ones who will break them too!

so really they arent stopping much... summarised, the people who drive sensibly and have responsible friends who know how to sit quietly and still in a car from point a to point b will be the ones who respect and obey these new laws,

the ones who "insert stereotype commodore with drop tank and 4 muzzas/bogans hanging out the windows yelling shit at people" will be the ones who dissregard these rulings

unfortunatly the gene pool is full of morons, and creating law preventing them from knocking themselves off 'darwin award style' will only taint our population further.

god i hate topics like this...

i'm p-plater too!! =(

victoria is strict, hate it!

i've been told that gold coast is 10% + 1 to get speeding ticket.

melbourne is 3km/h correction??

argue about that too! why aren't all states the same law?? hehe

haha im yr 12 doing my oral on the same issue ..hope it goes well lots of useful points to discuss in this topic..and your right..talk about something your passionate about. goodluck with yours.

Yep, most should be in between the 5-10min mark. When I was preparing mine, I thought I would NEVER get to that mark. Always the 2-3min mark, but when you do actually do the presentation, the 8mins will go past very quick.

Good luck with it guys!

lol, yeh thanks u 2. Ive decided to pik at 2 parts of the laws. The passenger thing on p1 and also the new vehicle restrictions. Hopefully i can fit it all in 5mins  .

Rob, I suggest you do some road stat, and law reseach before begin your argument aganst the new P Plate legislation.

If you give an unresearched, biased self centered opinion as a newbie driver you might end up getting an F

I was born and bred in NZ, as a young drivers we didnt have "P Plates" but had a similar stage of acquiring our drivers license called "Restricted" which was after the "Learner" period.

While on your restricted (which I think was for about 12 months), the driver could only use a vehicle between the hours of 6 am and 10pm, and were not allowed to carry "ANY" passagners unless they were at or older than the age of 21 and whom have had their full license for over two years. This person had to sit in the passanger seat and was basically responsible for all occupants in the car.

As far as vehicle power restrictions, increasing and limits are concerned Im not 100% and they may have changed, but when I was on restricted any power increase of 10% or more needed to be certified. This Cert. made sure your bakes could handle the new power etc etc.

Other than that you could driver what ever you liked as far as know.

Why I have responded in this forum is because the NZ road toll for this age group of drivers is not even comparable to Australia, and this is why Aust has begun a change to its legislation. We all need to learn to drive in society, and I agree some advance quicker and have better street smarts than others.

But by having friends in the car even "ONE" to distract you while driving is proven to have deadly or life changing consequences.

As far as all your arguments about partys etc, well they have no relevance on the bigger picture. Take a bus or walk or drive "yourself" and go home alive.

You might think I'm an old buggar and to some of you I might be, but I love my cars as much as the next skyline fan.

This isn't an attack on P Platers just something to consider, so take some advise from someone whos been there and done that and had a few close calls along the way, use your brain and drive to the conditions and stop your whining, you got it pretty good.

Cheers

Roj

    • That's a short. Find the short. It will be somewhere between that fuse and the headlight. Start by removing the plugs from the back of the headlight and dimmer switches, and measure resistance to earth. Supply side (power from the fuse) should have none. The other side should have resistance compatible with whatever globe(s) is there (which is relatively easy to say for a normal globe, perhaps not as easy to say for LEDs). Anyway, if you have very low resistance, you defo have a short. Then you just have to run the wiring like you're running the bowel of a dog (on the operating table) that has swallowed something it wasn't supposed to.
    • Hey guys, need help figuring out why my driver side (RH) fuse 15amp keeps blowing. The Driver Sides Headlamp is out, i replaced these a long time ago with LED ones that were working for 1-2 years. Now, the driver side light is out and i traced it back to a broken fuse. I replaced the 15 amp fuse in the engine bay and as soon as i flip the headlight on, it blows the new fuse. Any idea what's going on?
    • I found the same with Subaru’s.  I own and love the SG9 Forester, after that model 2008+, Subaru threw the ugly stick at all their line up and somehow managed to make them look worse with every succeeding year.  lol
    • It's something we all have to consider as time marches on. Also consider lifted rally MX5 conversion at that point.
    • I should be fine for a few more years, whilst I do have arthritis I also exercise and do mobility training every day to keep as fit and healthy as I can, military life, which is the actual cause of most of my joint issues, has set daily regimes, which I weirdly enjoy I also train alot smarter now, not really focusing on lots strength or puffy muscles, I'm more focused on maintaining what I have for my future older self, I actually train as much mobility now as I do exercising Check out this "simple" drill I have been doing daily prior to training now for a while now, this has worked wonders in my all round mobility
