Well to start this off i just went into mcdonalds (@2:05am) and saw a cop car waiting to get his food, im guessing they were waiting for someone to come in to get defected coz they didnt move for a long time and all they recieved through the window was a cheeseburger. I parked in the waiting bay and while waiting for my food a cop came over and told me to join him and his mates for a "chat" when ive collected my food.

This should have been an immediate panic sign and i should have bailed. But eh, i drove around the corner and somehow there is now 3 cop cars parked and he just tells me to stop in the middle, not even park, and to open my bonnet. As soon as i got out he asks me "how many cones have you had tonight?" to which i reply i dont drink or do drugs fullstop and he gave me a wtf look.

He then proceeds to tell me my engine bay is "highly modified" and then the party starts.

this is how the defect notice reads

"The following faults were found: Car lowered to far (no, i can spell but he cant)

Rear wheel track outside limits (it only has like 235's on it, highly debatable)

Air horn to be removed (i didnt argue this)

Engine to have modifications removed :

-eg Intercooler, air filter, wastegate

Turbo timer to be removed

Exhaust too loud.

Defect category : Major

Im not very good with things in the engine bay, and as they were all there when i purchased it i dont know the work behind it. I just need some people to clarify things with me before i waste time taking it to regency and getting knocked back! (this is the first defect ive had btw)

Firstly i thought that it wasnt illegal in SA to have mods like cooler and pod, the pod is screwed down with a bracket and doesnt move at all and i also have a cover over it! Almost as covered as stock airbox.

Secondly i have to remove the wastegate? This makes no sense to me as nothing has been touched regarding the turbo so how would you notice if its been modified? The original cop that was getting smart with me pointed to a blue tube going somewhere and told me thats the wastegate, kinda looked like a fuel line to me lol.

Thirdly the turbo timer is attached to the alarm so is it not a very complex thing to get someone to remove it for my brief stay at hotel de regency?

And lastly he just got me to start the car up while he was behind it and he knew within 1 second of hearing it that its "too loud". And the car being too low, he refused to take a tape measure out and didnt even tell me what legal ride height was then and there, i think they just tried to make it so its a hard yard to get my car on the road tbh.

He didnt tick exhaust on the required repairs thing but i should probably check it out yeah? And he found the boost controller that i "accidently forgot the name for" but didnt write it on the sheet at all.

Someone please help me with these as its my daily and i planned on getting rego today but it seems that i cant re register it now its defected. Bah i guess i'll have to wake up super early and walk to work :\

Thankyou for your time

-Cameron

dang that sux man

moral of that storey is if its late and you see a patrol car @ McDonald's go get hungry jacks

by the sounds of it your should be reporting him doesn't sound like you need to change much

Hrmm.. thats the second person within a week i've heard of being defected for an Intercooler.

I think its time to give vehicle standards a buzz and see if they have changed what mods can be performed.

With regards to lowering the R33.. Unfortunately anything other than stock is illegal. We are only allowed to lower our cars around 10mm of which is impossible unless you run thread type coil overs. 10mm still looks stock height.

Anything that doesn't is unfortunately defectable. So thats why he probably didn't bother getting a tape to it.

As for the rear wheel track. Tyre size is irrelivent. Standard the R33's come out with 6" wide rims; legally your only allowed to go 1" wider from memory. A 7" wide rim isn't all that common unless the wheels your running is from bob jane.

Generally wheel size ranges from 7.5-8" wide front and rear. So if the tyre had a slight stretched look it would be definitely defectable.

I'm going to buzz vehicle standards maybe today if I get time and clarify the wheel and intercooler question.

Out of curiosity what area was this in?

Umm im not too sure how wide the rims are but they are 18" impuls, so very dishy and yeah they are very stretched lol. As far as i know the ride height is stock, but he wouldnt even try to prove me wrong. Definitely bailing when i think something is up, not worth the risk. Area was uhh prob say its woodcroft, just down from south gate plaza

And he also told me anything changed from factory in the engine bay is illegal, probably just stirring me up

ive never heard of intercoolers being a defect. Unless they hang lower than the front bar or the front bars been cut with jagged edges etc etc

Definitely doesnt hang down lower and the front bar is in one piece, they prob just like the sight of a defect notice with all the lines full :\

awww man sorry to hear..... by the sounds of it your car should have been fine  why are we made feel scared for being on the road.... arent there actual crims around to hastle ??

damn man, sounds like they rly wanted to get ya, sorry to hear it

having stretched tires is a defect? i have 225's on a 9' rim and have been pulled over 3 times with that size no hassles so far...

can someone confirm this please?

might have to re-think my tire size next time i get some new rubber

Here's the most recent data I have on wheel track and ride height for a skyline.

Track is measured from the centre of one tyre to the centre of the next.

Best of luck with it all mate.

Too bad im defected for more things than a police station could clear, otherwise it would be worthwhile  i guess now that im in the system im on the chopping block when i can get it back on the road as they know exactly what to look for again.
