Congrats. That's fantastic news. The only person happier than you would be your dad I'm guessing.

Are you guy's coming to SA for the Skyline Nationals?

If you don't mind me asking, who bought the 31?

Cheers

yeh pretty sure we will be there.....Terry will have his R32 there as well and Caz with her DR30....not sure about the R31 yet.

Local Sydney buyer.......does not post on here.....his a car fanatic so the car should be kept pretty much how we kept it.....he plans on racing it as well which is a big plus.

Couple of pictures from private practice on Sat at EC.

P.S. It's the DR30's for proper shakedown since 1987.....awesome car...it's like driving a go cart.

It's great to know the GIO car has been retained in good hands and will see some track action. I was due to fly down and go to the PI Historics but the arrival of a first born focusses priorities somewhat.... Nonetheless, it'll be great seeing the GIO car out on track again. Congrats on the purchase! :)

how much was the gio gtr bought for?

what would the winfield gtr be worth these days?

So he new owner of the 31 is the current owner of the Sizzler car....which are for sale ????

The owner of the Sizzler car(Chris Larrosa for now :P ) owns the last of the R31's as well. Our 31 has gone to a guy by the name of Cary Mc??????. Should have his first race at Lakeside.

FYI, Lakeside should be getting the Winfield and GIO R32, R31, DR30( ) and possibly the Bluebird this year.

I heard it reported that Terry thought AUD$2.5 million was what the #1 Winfield was worth to him due to the car's notoriety as well as success as a Bathurst winner. Doesn't matter how much it may or may nnot worth - the car is irreplaceable (as are all Bathurst winners) and I'd never have enough money to prise it out of his ownership anyway! The GIO car was on ebay before it was bought by Jetwreck. I hope he got the GIO 'transporter' as part of the price because from memory, the transporter was not going to be let go as part of the cost, but required extra.

Mate I don't own it.....sort of......Dad has the title atm....sort of......but if he met with a sudden accident :( ....lol......I just get to look after, work on and race the toy's with him.....sort of a father son thing(yes we are both absolute car nuts).

This year though it looks like I will be racing the DR30 for an investor....still pinching myself on that one.

The price of the GIO car was about half way to a 7 figure digit with a brand new crate motor and crate gearbox with transfer case plus a whole load of other spares. We set up the sale of his transporter and tow car to the new owner of our old R31(I am going to miss the R31 :( )so we didn't have to take that.

As for the price of the #5 GMS R32....I guess that comes down to if Terry Ashwood wanted to sell it....atm moment he doesn't so the price would be quite high.

I envy your position...your family is sooo lucky to own such a piece of history :(

1 of my mates who is a mechanic @ at bmw knows of a guy who owns a r32gtr, I think he said it was a pace car painted red and the guy lives in bowral, loves his piss and in his 60's (maybe this is you dad)?

He parks the thing under a carport as he has no space

Ok just a quick post.

The Winfield and GIO R32's, DR30(finally finished :( ) and Bluebird will be racing this weekend coming at Phillip Island.

If you there come down and say hello.

cheers

Craig

    • Hi everyone, I’m Dave from Canberra. Here's a few pics of my 1992 R32 GTST coupe which I imported back in 2006. Only mods so far are HKS Hi-power cat back exhaust, K&N filter, ATC Volanti steering wheel, Pioneer stereo, amp and sub. This was my daily driver up until 2015 and sadly hasn’t been driven at all in the last 5 years due to marriage, work, and kids taking up most of my time and spare cash.As such its in need of a bit of TLC and one of my goals for this year is to get it back to running condition and maybe look into club/historic rego. I’ve joined SAU so I can ask a few questions along the way (although I promise to google Current Problem +SAU beforehand!)
    • From talking to the mx5 guys the NC doesn't actually need bonnet vents like the earlier NA and NB models, due to a better designed cooling system and undertray design There's plenty of them used as street cars and weekend track toys running anywhere from around 170 to 250kw with stock non vented bonnets, I initially was going to get some bonnet vents, but, as they are not actually required, I'll put vents on hold for a while and just monitor temps, though I do need to get something to actually monitor engine oil temps though, coolant temp can be pulled from the OBD2, but the oil gauge in the car is not actual oil temp, it is only a calculation based off coolant temp and RPM ☹️ They do recommend upgrading the radiator, which I have already done with a triple pass, and the only other thing they recommend for a street car is heat management, like I talked about above to protect bits in the engine bay from radiant heat, and to either replace the nearly 20 year old plastic coolant expansion tank, which I have done, or get a aftermarket alloy jobbie for some bling They did also say that if I wanted to track the car on occasion a oil cooler and sump baffle would be required, and as I already have had a sump baffle installed when the engine was out......... I'm going to get a oil cooler with a thermostat....... just in case I do eventually track the car, but probably not, but still maybe...🤪
