Don't know where to post this so doing it here.

For those Victorians out there or those who like to travel. The Group A's will be racing at Phillip Island March the 8th and 9th. At the moment 1 R31, 1 R32, 1 Sierra, 1 BMW(maybe 2) a couple of VL's and the Group C's. 24 or 25 car's in total.

cheers

I have just come back from the PI historics. The Group A/C field was huge. The R31 and the Peter Jackson / Ex Seton Sierra were going hard, with the sierra ultimately winning out on sheer speed. The R32 GT-R GIO car was on track, great credit to the guy for putting what is probably a very collectable car at risk in a race environment. Was really just cruising around but good to see it running.

A massive event well worth the trip down to the island.

just noticed in the first vid that Neil Crompton only managed a 14.2 in the R32 GTR...ummm, can somebody please Email that Bozo and tell him how to drive....? This is a guy who used to race in Group A...and thats the best time he could manage....Pathetic...What did he come off the clutch with 900rpm or something ?

Did you see the Jag jump the start in Race 2?

Did you see the Jag jump the start in Race 2?

Yeah, that was crazy. The start/finish flag marshall looked to have baulked on the flag drop and off a couple went. Was line ball but you are on a hair trigger for a mass start like that and anything is likely to set you off.

Could see all the officials in the timing towing reinacting the flag drop to justify their actions.

Not sure it any penalties were handed out.

No Penalties....lol.

There were some stern word's with the officials though....everyone was pretty pissed off that it was not a restart or people black flagged though. Pity the Sierra got the jump on us in that race....we might have been able to get him to grenade the motor(overheated due to running on high boost I think) in race 2 instead of race 3....would have given us the most points for the weekend then. Tell you what the BMW boy's had some bad luck all weekend.

    • Absolutely this. Yes, except not vacuum hose. Something oil/fuel safe is a better idea.
    • Like a Stagea, but not as cool! Hope you have enough garage space for this, or is something going to leave to make way for it?
    • The new project has arrived. I have wanted one of these for such a long time, well before that meathead Clarkson drove one in Africa. I really wanted an E34 but I have some medical issues that mean I *really* can't bump my head and the lack of airbags in the E34 made it just too big of a risk.  I don't know why I've always liked these older touring BMW's to be honest, but man I love this car. She's been pretty well maintained for her 243k's with what appears to be only a single oil leak at the oil filter housing gasket. It has a bunch of updates including later model bumper and headlights, 7 series billion-way adjustable seats and it came with a few spares and another set of wheels with legal tyres. I got a unregistered car permit from the RTA and drove it back from Canberra on Saturday.                   First cab off the rank is cleaning it up for blue slip. I dont know how picky they'll be but I figured I'd clean the headlights, fix the oil filter housing gasket, replace the speed sensors (throwing errors) and swap the OE wheels (the M Sport wheels have a big chunk out of one of the tyres.) I also need to replace all 6 gas struts - 2 for bonnet, 2 for hatch and 2 for hatch glass. The car tries to eat me whenever i open any of these. My plan for this car; Ultimately, this is a budget car. I can't afford to throw lots at it and its because I have another car that I got this, if something breaks its no big deal. I will just maintain and repair it really. But eventually I want to do a manual conversion. It actually looks pretty straight forward for E39's and the trickiest part will be sourcing the parts.  I do need to replace some suspension arms or bushes because wow, she's a floaty old girl. She's also fantastically slow. Like really, really slow. When pulling back out on to the freeway on Sat after a quick pull over I needed to wait until no cars were visible before going.  Oh, and the guy I bought it from had a gorgeous R31 GTS-X in the garage.
    • Do you have a picture? I assume it is a breather for gearbox oil as it expands, it should have a vacuum line run nice and high in the engine bay (R32 GTR has it on a top bellhousing bolt)
    • Hi all, I am putting an r33 gtst gearbox into a VL and have noticed what looks like a vacuum barb on the box (on top in the middle). Suspecting that it's a vacuum line but I'd like to double check, if someone could confirm the function of that would be great. Cheers in advance.
