Battery Problems! Please Help!

I brought my Skyline out as usual. I didn't drive it for three days after. I then tried starting it but nothing ...click click click(may have had lights on). So I jump started the bitch and took it for a spin around the block for about 20- 30 mins . I turn the engine off and then tried starting up again, n it did no probs.

Next morning I try starting it up and NOTHING :cheers: WHY OH WHY!!!? The thing is, I changed a new battery and re-con the alternator a couple of months back. Any suggestions?

1) speak better english.

2) if you have let a lead-acid battery stay in a discharged (flat) state for more than a few hours it has sulfated and will never hold a charge again.

Replace your battery. Three days of being flat means the battery is stuffed.

please get an omnimeter and measure the voltage directly from your battery terminals and post that first.

it does sound like a sulphated battery, but it could also be a corroded or degraded wire where they connect to the connectors onto the battery, since the factory don't solder the connections, they just clamp them.

get the battery shop to run some tests on your alternator and battery function.

If the battery is bad and you measure the voltage while the alternator is running and the voltage is up aqround 14V instead of 13.5V it indicates your battery needs replacing.

Battery conditioner will usually fix a reasonably new battery

If your car is not going flat after starting it a few times or your lights etc. dont dim as you increase the load on the circuit then its not your alternator i.e. regulator, brushes, windings etc. 14v is within the normal op range I thought?

There may be a current drain coming from somewhere else which will require you to look around the car with a multimeter to find the short. Not sure why you would measure voltage with an ohmeter (only measures resistance) unless you mean a multimeter which does the lot.

That click is the horn relay. If your horn isnt working it may be associated with that. Check to make sure the horn is actually plugged in and that the correct size fuse is being used. If its already plugged in, un plug it (tape the wires so dont touch car) and see if it happens again...

Thanks I was looking for the word "multimeter" could only think of "omnimeter" meaning meters everything: I was not reffering to "ohmmeter". Guess I could have used voltmeter.

HaZ3inSKY if you want help please get that reading direct from the battery terminals with the car switched off.

check for poor earth or an earth leak. Had one on my boat and used my 2week old battery as a sinker cause it would not hold charge after that

how is this going?

no response to request to post first step of problem solving,

or did you jump to the solution and replace wiring near the battery connectors or something?

let us know what the problems solution was?

You pretty much got your answer @ post 2

Unless it was a deep-cycle battery it's probably cactus, could try getting a little more life out of it with some battery conditioner to de-sulphate the lead plates, but generally it will never be the same as a new one.

I had the same problem a while back when my sister borrowed my car for a day to work. When she came back, she didn't switch off the fog light. After 2-days i wanted to drive the car and when i put the key into the ignition barrel and turned, nothing happened. Not even a clicking sound. Saw the fog light switch still on so i decided to jumper the car with my mum's corolla. Took a while too. Crank it like 4times before it will start. Took it for a spin on the highway for an hour and the battery was fully charged. Reads 14v on my Blitz FATT.

Another note, my friend's car will never start after he parks it overnight. Reason is that the charging light comes on eveytime he switched the engine off hence battery power is draining when the car has no power. It was a faulty alternator in the end.
