In case someone doesn't know, you get cheaper greenslips on your car if you have comprehensive insurance on that car. Doesn't have to be with the same company. For example, the Stagea's comprehensive is with Shannons and its greenslip is with NRMA and costs $300'ish compared to $500'ish without comprehensive insurance.

Cheers

Ah. That's included in our registration...

But yeah just waiting on the sale of my R31 wagon now so I can import myself a Stag.. Only criteria I have is 1999 model in white with leather. Been quite a few popping up on the auctions.

I never got a call back from Famous insurance though.

  • 1 month later...

Just thought I'd share my awesome experience that I had today with my car insurance.

I turned 25 2 weeks ago, and in my excitement decided to start looking for a new insurer, as Just Cars have been costing me about $2100 a year to insure my Stagea. I gave Shannons a call and got a nice price of $1600 a year from them. I then gave LSV a call (Lumley Special Vehicles) and the guy I talked to knew exactly what my car was, and was keen to get himself one. after an awesome conversation he gave me a quote of $998/yr inclusive of all taxes and whatnot. This can be paid quarterly, half-yearly or yearly, and it won't cost me a cent more to break the payments up. He gave me an agreed value of $20,000 (Just Cars would only give me about $17,000) with lifetime maximum no claim bonus.

There were a few hitches, all my mods had to be legal (Which they are) and any mods I put on in the future have to also be legal, but I don't need to declare them. I had to park the car securely at night, and I also have secure parking at work which helped. No one under 25 can drive the car.

I had to declare any and all speeding or traffic related offences for the past 5 years. I have 2 speeding over 15, 2 speeding under 15 and a neg driving charge.

So anywho, these guys seem like a good deal if you haven't had any luck with Shannons, Just Car or other import insurers. Famous told me they don't insure any Stagea's made before 2001 which is a really odd thing I thought.

If anyone wants this guys contact information, send me a PM. He was more than happy for me to call him on his personal work line, and he seems to have a love for Stageas. I'm sure he'd do a similar deal for anyone here. just note you do need to be over 25.

Well, thats odd for a couple of reasons. Firstly, when I called Shannon's the guy there told me they wouldn't insure Stagea's...??? Secondly, he said to call Just Cars, as they are part of the Shannons company...??? Go figure?? Anyhoo, I called Just Cars, gave my details, (30, retired, semi-rural, lock-up garage, no fines) and got 20,000 comprehensive coverage, in a slightly modified (suspension, wheels) 98 Stagea. All for a very nice $570. (I did put up my excesses to reduce the cost tho, but I havn't made any claims since I started driving, so I'm happy). They do require a proper ADR alarm tho... I must look into that asap.

What's a greenslip? something like a roadworthy?

I'm in SA and I've not heard of that before

CTP or Compulsory Third Party is mandatory in all states, in SA the premium is collected by the state and managed by Allianz, some states you can choose your CTP provider such as NSW, QLD. ACT is a monopoly by NRMA, then TAS, VIC, WA & NT are government run. It is in your rego regardless.

Covers all those injured as a result of the drivers fault, it been going in SA since 1947.

Jules

im buyin a series 1 stag next week.

got a quote from JC $912.00 full comp..

23yo fem... no tickets ever....that is after full no claim bonus on 16,500

i think that i live in a northern coastal suburb of perth helps with that to. will be parked in the driveway. and will be daily driver.

im happy with this price

yeah just got my quote.

25yr old male. License for 7 years, no tickets in 3 for 940 full comp.

thats with no claim etc and agreed value of 16,500 and garaged etc

id say area has a lot to do with it since females get owned more when it comes to insurance. (nothing sexist, i tested it with 3 different places and my gf got quoted more even though she has never lost any points ( and had it as long as me)

so yeah bob/term its def got to do with suburb

Terminal is your car listed as secure garaged?

Mine is so that will perhaps reduce the premium.

hahah so in a way your saying it isnt in a garage then?

So.....if there is ever a claim, what do you think would happen?

lol

edit - Terminal - sounds like LSV is desperate for clients :)

wonder what happens at claim time?

I've come to understand that 'Securely Garaged' means you have to own a house with a lockable garage. I don't think it means you have to lock your car away the minute you get home from work.

Mine is securely garaged, but i leave it out sometimes, usually when we have other junk piled up in the garage from other projects, like gardening and house cleaning. I also work at a construction site, which is secure with a man on the front gate, so i get secure parking for work as well.

My mate just signed up with LSV, which is who put me onto them. he's a bit of an insurance guru, and has read through their claims procedure and all their disclaimers, and it doesn't look any different to all the other major insurers. I think LSV have found themselves a niche market with people who have modified imports and can't get insurance for reasons other than their claims record.

I just got a quote from JCI for $1021 for the 260 RS I'm about to purchase. I'm over 25. but my wife is 23. It covers her, so I'm pretty happy with that. I'm with Famous Insurance for my GTI-R, but they said they won't cover the Stagea because the risk is too big! WTF? They cover Skylines, Supras, etc, but not an AWD wagon...weird.

I also tried another one (Vigil I think) who wouldn't cover my wife.

Didn't know lumley are dealing with the public these days.

Lumley General Insurance are not a new insurer - they've been around for years and if anyone has been insured for anything (say business insurance, building/contents, car, etc) through a broker chances are they have been underwritten by lumleys.

I worked there on a temp assignment for over a year a few years back. Whilst I wasn't personally dealing with claims or anything like that (just general admin work) I was sitting in the claims dept and I can personally vouch for them as far as insurance companies go. They are a VERY good insurer from what I could see/hear and they seemed very fair in their dealings.

I'd definitely recommend them. I dont work there any more (contract ended back in 2004 or something) and have no connections with the company now. I would've gone with them before except they dont insure under 25yo's and also tended to deal through brokers rather than direct with the public...but things may have changed since then.

FWIW my stagea is currently insured through Just Car Insurance ($1140) but I've never made a claim with them so cant comment on them.

And now since I'm selling the stag (**shameless plug**) I wont need to worry about it...

I have my motorhome insured with Ken Tame Insurance brokers which is underwritten by Lumleys. I just asked them for a quote on my 98 series 2, full comprehensive, rating 1 protection, 1 windscreen per year. I nearly fell off my chair. $350.00 excess. 1 year is $433.00. I dont know if it is because I have the motorhome with them but hell that is good

Well I got my insurance through Just Car... Paid $1050 for full comp also insured for intercooler, gauges, rims, stereo and agreed value of $20k. Not too bad for my real first car and insurance (what I mean is that my last car was my dads)

I don't understand Just Car. I rang them yesterday to see if my premium will drop now that I'm 25, but they said they wouldn't reassess my policy until it was up for renewal, which was October this year. I then said I've shopped around and gotten a better deal through LSV for $998, and they said there's no way they can match that. If other people are getting around that value with Just Car, do they just hate me or something? It's confusing me that they say one thing to me, then another to someone with a similar car.
