This narrow-minded group of certain ones of "the older generations" needs to show some respect and stop stereotyping every young import driver as a hoon. Just remind them that in 20 years they'll all be crashing into peoples front yards because of being disorientated and hitting the accelerator instead of the brake.

It's only cause "Back in the Good Ol' Days'" they used to get away with driving drunk, 0.30 BAC and what not.

Its always a case of "Do as I say and not as I have done" with the baby boomers. Most selfish generation that has ever polluted this planet.

oh hey I just thought of another one... "People in glass houses should not throw stones... unless my 120db zorst backs up and shatters that stuff one late night, bwahhahahaha"

Dohmar, I thought you made a good point in a different thread but this is just crap.....you don't really believe this do you?

You shouldn't generalize.

Sled I wouldn't have written it if I didn't believe it, feel free to disagree tho. However you're right, generalizing them all is as bad as them generalizing that all skyline owners are car hoons. It seems most people forget what they got up to as a kid, when it comes time for them to head to the retirement village.

Adz2332, should have said to them that people passed the age of (whatever age they were) should have their licence taken from them and see what they said about that. it should start a nice little shit fight.

we just need to wait till they all die and our generation takes its place till we are ever going to have a drag strip again in SA.

a drag strip will help, it common f**king sence and if the old farts cant see that its their problem. just like skate parks took kids off the streets im sure it could do the same for cars.

Haha yes but when we hit the ripe old age of 60 odd will we again change our minds just to piss of our younger generation lol...?

does anybody remember when AIR used to have the drags every wednesday night that anyone could go to??? I dont remember it causing people wanting to race on the streets, if anything it got worse when they closed AIR..

What I'm about to say is not neccesarily directed to Dohmar cause there's others that think this way too and he's already acknowledged that we shouldn't generalize.

This thread started off half intelligent then it turned into a granny bashing saga.

It's no wonder "puresx", "mid life crisis" and other baby boomers don't post as often because of this narrow minded crap.........you're missing out on their years of experience when we could all be learning something.......God gave humans a brain, 2 ears and only one mouth so if we used them in that order we'd be alot smarter.

And it's not just those guys, check the pic below that I had in a different thread where most of those guys are baby boomers and I'll bet they would be all for a drag strip.

The guy on the far right is Geoff from Ultimate Choppers Aust, he's got more drag racing experience in his little finger than most people on this site.

The guy next to him has had more articles written about him in bike magazines than I've had hot dinners.

The guy with the white cap is the famous Bandit from Bikernet in LA (not one biker in the world that doesn't know him).

So you see why you can't generalize.....you'll find most baby boomers would be for a drag strip even if its just to get hoons off the road.

from what i hear street racing used to be more crazy back in the day. it prob just didnt get as much media attention, which is always correct in some peoples eyes. i hear 20 years back they used to do regular 10min burnouts at glenelg near magicmountain in the carpark, cant picture a burnout lasting that long anywhere near civilization now without jail time.

ya cant say all old people are like that though, there's plenty that dont judge you just cause you got a fast car. hell theres even plenty of old people with fast cars. couple of my older uncles love my car and start telling me bout the v8s n motorbikes they used to have back in the day :P

the whole building more skate parks concept worked a treat their used to be people skating at shops back 10years ago all the time and now there's never is. while it will never get rid of cheap barina's racing (which is more like a normal car taking off anyway) a drag strip should atleast get the more crazy fast cars to stop racing the streets

Mate i couldnt agree more! I wasnt starting this thread at having a go or anything like that.. more to see if i was missing something etc.

And as far as more middle aged guys posting it would be good to see more of them around cos i am on here to learn, as i have little knowlage at the moment, not to shoot my mouth off or talk big etc etc

valid point indeed mr sled.

as i recall average age at the drags was over 30s when i used to go there. the people running the lights fire wardens drivers and all that wernt young punks thats for sure. and they would be all for getting a new strip.

ps man im a post whore

now lets all bee friends

Yeah too true....back when baby boomers where teenagers and pushing shopping trolleys at Coles New World they could only afford an EH holden with a 179ci HP (or X2 with twin strombergs) and 3 on the tree (with no synchro 1st) that did the 1/4 mile in 25 sec with a good tail wind.

Now a teenager can get a very cheap turbo import, put a $22 bleed valve & muffler on it and do close to an 11 sec 1/4 mile.

That's why cops are definitely tougher today especially when this happens....Port Wakefield Rd Disaster

Yeah that wakefield stuff is messed up. nothing left of the rex... while I can appreciate that there are a tonne of older folks that are all for drag strips, I'd have to question whether or not they're in the majority... I get evil looks from a load of old people, maybe cause my exhaust is loud.... certainly not due to speed or acceleration, I need my licence for work more than I need to hit the pedal, so I don't worry about that stuff....

A petrolhead will remain just that as they grow older.... its the ones who aren't involved in motorsport, that don't understand...they shit me, cause Im sure you and your mates would be keen on a drag strip (if not for safety then for themselves to have a bit of a run).... personally I don't drag, but would like to see one out there, like u said, so the port wakefield incident et al doesnt happen, and also to get the cops off our back a bit. My mechanic is in his 50's and still races sprint cars and targa tassie so I understand where you're coming from..

*mental note ; dont arm wrestle sled cos i'll lose*

See the attached file for footage of illegal Drag Racing in the city streets!

This thread needed some laughter :(

That's GOLD Lee.....which one are you in the pic? :P

Does your mum know that you wear fishnets & stilettos when you go out on the town?

Sled: you are 100% correct in saying there are plenty of older generation enthusiasts who wish there was a drag strip again and dont conform to the usual "old fuddy duddy" stereotype... at the same time, we all know that the Baby Boomer generation is one of the most cashed up. Im sure that if enough people got together, pooled their assets, that a facility could be built in SA to cater for both drag, drift and circuit. that would be profitable.....

shits me off cause everyone knows how bad the motorsport scene is in SA atm.... with Mallala being the only track... and an average one at that run by CAMS (which, mind you, is formed by a bunch of old farts with no f**king clue) but yet not much is being done about it. If the State government really gave a rats arse, they would do what the NSW and WA state governments did and build a state/private funded track1 (WA track is both state and private funded i believe while WSID is state funded)

I don't care whether it's some state gov official, multi-millionaire privateer, or consortium, someone needs to throw some cash at AIR and bring it back to international standards sooner rather than later. You're right that the baby boomers are the ones holding all the purse strings so don't be surprised if we are thanking a baby boomer for eventually coming through for us.

If people dragged off the streets... government dont make money with speeding fines/redlights/defects/hoon laws etc = government dont like. Its our speeding fines thats payed for the new tram lines and those underpasses around South Rd! :D
No drag strip= street racing its all pretty simple

this is very true the government loves revenue.... we as enthusuasts loose out..... i would rather spend 50 bucks on a weekend get it all out my system rack up some times for fun and spend the next weekw ith my car in the garage tinkering with it for two weeks till i decide to take it to the track/quatre again. i cant drive because i decided to use cross roads as my quartre and got caught for it!!! WEEEE NEEED A STRIP/ and or track......tell the cops to wait out the front for those in their commos that had their ass whipped and take out there issues by laying rubber on the street while leaving "strip" and the cops can make their revenue.... only problem with this is cops will know how to get their defect qoter up by waiting out the front of the track.... but hey most of us know how to hide our goodies!

just my 2c
