Most of the coil overs I have found so far are only for the non ARX model. ie, they are a lower ride height. I would like to keep the ride height and get better handleing which I am told is possible. The problem with the Bilsteins is that they are only made for the Jap market and what I am trying to find out is if the valving is set by Japan or Germany. If Jap, they are likely to be very stiff, if German they should be a lot better.

Any competent shock shop or particularly anyone advertising as Bilstein agents should be able to revalve Bisteins to your requirements. I was luck enough to get some (4) second hand Bilsteins supplied and completely rebuilt for NZ$600

melb guys - for suspension try damien at suspension city 41 provost st nth melb ,039329-5133 , cheap bilsteins , cheaper than the aust distributor

can organise all info about spring rates , bound & rebound of springs and dampning rates of the shocks, regards alan. :D

Cheers for that.

I will give Damien a call & see what he says.

No harm in asking eh?

I got my Bilsteins from www.northshoreprestige.com.au.

I must say they are the best aftermarket shocks i have used on the street in terms of ride comfort. Totally eliminates that floating feeling lol.

Yeah I know.

I spoke to Ben months ago about possibly getting a set... Higher priorities in life got in the way and now he cannot source the BTS kit!!!!!!!!!!!

damn, blast and bother, I say!

  • 1 year later...

I'm going a different route with suspension.. im going those KYB damper kits first then trying different lowered springs. i dont want hard as rock coil over handling but i dont want it soft as either.

Should arrive next week, tell you how they go. :)

The intercooler kit description is wrong also.

there are 2 blitz kits available for m35's .. blitz CS , and blitz SE both kits are made to suit for m35's ive only heard of one being used on this forum by someone on the gold coast. not sure of its fit or placement but i heard theyre good.

but expensive ..$700-900~

P.S everyone i speak to in the suspension field says dont put coil overs on them.. so im gonna go against the grain. i'll tell you if these suspension people know what theyre on about or if theyre just full of ^$%&$ regarding the m35's ride..

WTF? :)

Coilovers are one of the best things you can do to your M35.

Edited by iamhe77

everyone i talk to says ityll make the ride bad.

but on the same token they've probably got no idea in the variation of coil over.. and the hardness to everyones real experience here with m35's.

my front shocks are fragged.. and suspension friend is saying KYB's will do it justice and some nice springs and not coilovers.

so im gonna give it a go. see how the ride goes. if its still too sloppy ill go for coilovers.

Nah mate, all depends on what you use. I'm using BC, HR series, not harsh or hard, just firm and controlled. On softest setting (of 30 steps) it is beautiful, every click makes a noticeable difference. Best part; set the height exactly where you want.

Thanks for the info dale

Wasnt sure which BC series suited. can you tell me where you got them from?

I bought mine from a trader on ebay, but justjap would be your best bet. As for low, you could use it as a grader fully dumped. . Seriously, I'm at about 110mm at the bottom edge of the front bumper lip, could go at least another inch, inch and a half.

Would anyone with any of these kits "Bilsteins / KYB / BC's etc" be happy to chime in with part / kit numbers?

I'm trying to source some replacements for my Stag but it seems no one in NZ has heard of the M35 and i keep getting quotes prices & parts for the C34.

PS - Tis only for the VQ25DD (non-turbo model), but i doubt there will be much variation if at all between the turbo & non-turbo models.

Cheers in advance

Kev.

BC's are available in the link above. http://justjap.com/store/product.php?produ...=457&page=1

So you could get that part number and take it to any BC stockist and get a price.

Autolign can get Tein coilovers. As can TopTown, Mag And Turbo etc. Autolign will be your cheapest bet though.

Why anybody would take am M35 to a shop for advice I have no idea. Been there done that, expensive lesson. Post up you questions, there is always somebody that has gone down that path already...

BC's are the go...

    • Noted. Have noticed BMW are more 'high maintenance' for sure. They've attracted my attention as I think the used car prices seem reasonable vs other options, and the extra quality overall vs a commodore / camry / corolla or similar of the same vintage is appealing, especially the interior, and they are more on the sporty side whereas the others mentioned can be more cruising or economical A-to-B only.
    • Haha yeah I know, this is SAU after all, why are we talking about BMW's of all things!? I hear you on the 'don't have to worry about it' side of things. Having been fortunate enough to be have been able to buy a brand new motorbike or two...never really enjoyed them as much as I'd have liked as you worry so much about where you park it, will it get scratched, stolen, attempted theft, knocked over, etc...and yes dirty. Older less valuable bikes you can just go where you want and park it wherever and not really worry that much in comparison. And who cares if it gets dirty! Never owned a V8, and have had my eyes on VE / VF commodores for years but with their prices climbing so high, the M3 has come into focus more as prices are much closer than I've ever seen...is it a potential contender now?...of course need to factor in the S65 'maintenance' especially and like you said general M car 'tax'. One can dream anyway. But more on the reality front - did read the whole 330i thread as well and was a great read too, both threads enlightening as I've never even driven one of these cars! I do recall 330i didn't seem to have the same amount of issues for almost the same car (turbos and related differences notwithstanding)...perhaps down to getting it earlier in it's life so looked after better than the 335i? Perhaps so as your 130i has been good and quite similar, so finding a car that's been looked after well is the especially-crucial-BMW-first-step.
    • Nice. Dont worry about the time of not running. My current skyline hasn't run since I bought it. About 8 years ago.
    • It's also worth noting that I am heavily and unconditionally biased. I've had a lot of cars including some GTRs a fair while ago. I love my BMW's now a lot. They make no sense a lot of the time and the guys on here remind me regularly that I could get something else that does what I want better and cheaper. If you're going to take on an older BMW it's definitely a commitment. If you bail on it early you'll lose money and also the ability for it to put a smile on your face. Stick with it and it just gets better.  f**k I should get into advertising.
    • Careful with posts like that around here without the flame suit on @cobo_11! 😂😂 My 330i journal is on here too. That car was so good and super reliable. We still have a 130i in the family which is almost identical to the 330i and easier to find in manual. It has also been almost faultless over the 6 or so years in the family.  I used to want an M car a lot more than I do now but if I'm honest and without trying to sound like a wanker, I can get such good performance and handling out of my 335 without needing to worry about all the crap that goes along with M car ownership. I don't need to worry about my bearings or subframe issues or the cost of replacing brakes or suspension or whether it has been impeccably maintained. And I can leave it places and not get upset when it's always filthy.
