I can answer the fuel pump location question. Thats if Series 1 and 2 are the same, I have a series 2.

Its in the bottom of the fuel tank, accessed under the right side 'boot' floor.

Remove the floor

Unscrew filler cap to release the pressure in the tank.

Undo the Sender and return lines. (watch out for the that'll come out) remember which is which!!!

unscrew the big cap over the tank and remove the centre piece(not sure its real name)

Put your hand straight down you should feel a small box, it has a little clip that holds it down inside the tank.

Unclip and pull it up, it will be full of fuel to becareful.

Inside this box is the fuel pump.

As for problems, it shouldnt be. There is a pump that is a direct replacement for the stock pump, I think its a Bosch one 040 maybe, fits the standard box and the plugs are also the same so no rewiring. My mate has the exact specs of the pump if you need it.

Hope that helps.

Bosch 040 is not a direct replacement for the Series 1. I have an 040 and i had to remove part of the cradel and modify the connectors for the power. it does fit nicely once done, but don't expect it to be a simple replacement.

what sort of diagram do you need? ECU wiring or something else?

and what is the problem?

My fuel pump is dying, symptom is pinging as it reaches full boost about 4500rpm and up.

I have a 1997 RS4 Stagea with 4 speed Auto. I have got a problem that when I cruise at 70km/hr or above the car seems to pulse. It does not do it when accelerating or when crusing below 70.

I have changed fuel filter, plugs and had checked the coil packs for resistance values and all seem ok. I done this as the fault seem to act like a miss fire. The car has been checked on a diagnostic tested and all fuel and engine management appear to be ok. I have the injectors cleaned and the gearbox flushed and new oil put in.

I had the auto box replaced and I am now wondering if the electrics / sensors on the auto box are causing the problem. I have been told the transmisson is ok. So I have narrowed problem to coil packs, but all the threads on here say there coil packs gave them a miss fire at 4000rpm or above were mine pulses at 2500rpm when crusing. The car does no do it under 60kph or when cold as I can drive the car at any speed for about 10 minuets without the pulsing. If it is not the coil packs the next thing I was thinking was fuel pump maybe, could a faulty airflow meter cause this?

I am getting the rear tyres replaced this weeks as they are shot and I will be getting the wheel alinament checked to see if this might be a cause.

Can anyone offer any advice or has anyone experinced a similar problem.

My email is [email protected] and contact number is 0423 474 985

Cheers

Paul

welll. generally engine problems relate to revs and chasis/suspension problems relate to speed. so if its only over 70klm regardless of gear, its probably the chasis.

I'm not really sure what you mean by pulsing but I would start with wheel balancing (not alignment) - could be an unbalanced or buckeled wheel? maybe tailshaft out of balance?

    • From there it is trickier. Ecutek seems to be one of those closed ecosystems where everyone password protects their tunes which means I either choose a tuner and can't change from them and can't make any changes myself for any reason, or I have to buy the tuning software (about $4k) and then get someone to tune from scratch (which is not simple with all the multi dimensional tables these days). Once you buy about 300 "flash points" per ECU you can get it tuned and add their "RaceROM" function which hacks extra functionality like launch control onto the ECU, and also makes extra data available for logging over CAN Not sure what I'll do there yet; I'm tempted to use one of the overseas shops that does billions of remote tunes of the platform instead of starting from scratch locally, a lot can be done online these days.
    • Can I log IAT eh? Well, can now So next thing was looking at data logging. Not straight forward because none of the motorsport displays have cracked the nissan/inifinti CAN and ECU based displays don't do g logging, lap timing, predictive laps etc.  So, I bought an Ecutek dongle from Tunehouse (Oz distributor). Even without a tune onboard that allows display and logging of about 50 parameters via Android (and presumably iOS) app. Approx 600 for the bluetooth + Usb version That gives me (pretty ugly but) functional dash display on Android And logging of these parameters I'll play around a bit over the break, but at least now I can make sure I have oil pressure when I get to some track testing.
    • I don't know what globes/headlight connector they run, but I'd be looking for a female adapter to plug into the existing headlight on one side. Something like this https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/256017245989 Then I'd use a pair of single input, double output relays (one for low, one for high), mount them in a spare space in the fuse box if you want to to look more original (and be easier to maintain). Then 2 new power sources from the main stud in the fuse box via a fuse to each relay. Low from the headlight adapter pin triggers low relay and high from the high headlight adapter pin triggers high and low. Earth the relays and new headlight sockets and off you go. Because it triggers off the original headlight all of the dipping/hi on/high flash all still works
