im not tring to start a flame war but it really does shit me that SOME skyline people think that they r the best car for watever reason. i know skyline r badass car which can run some wicked 8/9sec 1/4mile but it isnt the only car

Yes, skylines aren't the fastest car on the road.. but considering the majority of the more expensive cars out there are stock standard (for many reasons) the skyline often comes out on top.

Don't also forget differences between the road and the strip. I have this theory, which might well be b.s. so u can call it if u want ;) but anyway, as the commodores are a lot heavier (was it 100kg = 30rwkw?.. discussed here previously) they probably have better weight distribution so they can stick to the road a lot more. On the strip this is actually amplified as its a smoother surface and a bit of weight in certain cars can actually help.

The skylines are *very* tailhappy, and struggle for grip on a smooth surface. I've noticed this in the wet, no chance for even a light drag or else it'll go sideways. On an "average" bitumen road though, which is very textured which helps grip (at least in melb, i know streets around oz vary a lot) its not hard to get a rocket launch...and the race should be the skylines if you've got around 180rwkw.

If you do the power to weights on a skyline and GTS Monaro they are very similar - so it all comes down to how the power gets to ground. I'm still only talking stock GTS versus modified GTS-T though.

But you can call b.s. on me if you like :)

Pfft I was 0.05 seconds off. (you do know that drag radials are considered street legal?)

I'm not a "skyline person". I don't even own a skyline, I just know they are better than corvettes. This "oh we have to respect all cars" crap is exactly that - crap. In life, some things are better than others.

mates stock VX GTS ran a 13.2 @ 108mph.. with tweaks it would be up there witha  gt-r.. especially on a rolling run

c'mon it's not totally stock. :P

I think this particular vehicle will beat most stock gtrs on a rolling run.

ahaha not even worth replying too :bahaha: :P:):O :O

Yes i would say GTS-T r about the same as Gts and GTR should blow them away but it all depends it isnt a perfect world

true Ethan, except that a lightly modded GTS/GTO will run a 12 not a 13. and in eithercase any gen3 commodore lightly touched will beat a gts-t as they were comparing after its established.

And for those who harp on about prices. the GT-R's have in each series when new been over $100,000's as well so its a moot point. Also i do love the gt-r but getting fed up with these newer board members harping on and on about import vs domestics

if the standard engines die all by themselves, i wouldn't have much faith in their longevity by modding them. But, i've never owned/driven/modded one so prob be wrong. But with full engine rebuilds after 15,000km's, u gotta wonder...

hey guys, this is all turning into like one of those american threads, domnestic vs imports..... i don't want it to turn into one of these!! they go on forever!!!! i was at car and driver(?) forum, and one of these threads went on for like 10 or so pages, bash this, bash that..... my point.... leave whatever be, if someone likes the domestics, let them have their opinion of what's best..... if someone likes imports, let them have their opinion of what's best.....and i mean no disrespect to anyone, i just want the bickering arguments over which is better, to stop... plz

    • I remember the days when E85 was priced in according to the $ per km outcome. Sure E85 was about 35% cheaper, but you also lost about 35% range... now it's fked..
    • They do. The pale yellow translucent ones from Japan were .... I dunno. Useless? Whiteline and SuperPro are probably fairly similar. There's bound to be a range of different hardnesses amongst the dozens of options on the market. The simple fact is that the pineapples don't get up inside the bush at all. They just sort of exist in the space between the washer/bracket and the subframe's bush outer tube, and...exert a bit of force between them? Or something like that. I'm sure that with enough provocation, they will simply allow one to more wrt the other.
    • I'm not sure they came in different hardnesses? Going from memory only - I had set them up in the balanced setup. I also have poly bushes, so I have both poly bushes and pineapples. This is what my memory tells me at least. I'll have to take a look under there to be sure. The tramp was so bad that I managed to eject/kill a diff bushing, so those I know are stock. The tramp is bad enough that you are 200% sure you are doing severe damage to the car. It's not just chirping or vibration, it feels like you're hitting a speed hump/kerb 10 times a second. The issue has persisted between subframes! (I went from Hicas to non hicas subframe and replaced every bush a few years ago now) so I'm entirely lost. Every arm is factory.
    • Can recommend the Frenchys kit, been using it 2 years now with no issue, very happy with it.  Only thing for me was upgrading the thermo fan but I am super fussy on cooling.   Also interested in electric AC, partly for boot mount to have a clean bay and partly would love the idea of cooling off the car before i get in. The battery setup to do that might be tricky / expensive though.  Found this an interesting watch.
    • I put Whiteline pineapples in my old 33, they came in a 6 pack of them, got rid of the axle tramp altogether, cheap, quick and easy install,  they were pretty solid units though...???high durometer???? and NVH was increased a fair bit How hard are the ones you installed?
