when i used to start up mine the check engine light would come on and my car would shake badly and other times it would be fine then after a little bit the light would come back on but still seem ok. it ended up being the coilpacks i bought some splitfire ones and its all good now.

99.999999999999999999999999999999999999999999% it's the coil packs.

Upgrade to Splitfires (check the Trader sections here for people selling them for very good prices)

VERY, VERY common problem on R34's for the coil-packs to go. Thankfully though, it's an easy fix

Does it only happen when the car warms up?

Could be your car going into limp mode if your afm is playing up.

I just changed one on a mates R33. Was fine when car was cold but as soon as the computer had allowed time for the element in the afm get to temp, if it isnt getting any reading or an incorrect one from the afm, it would go into limp mode. It shuddered and carried on. It also put out a fair bit of smoke.

If you can get someone with the same afm to come round just try theres on your car. They have a coloured sticker on them, just make sure they are the same colour. Theres a pink one and another colour.

My mate who was having the problem had a R33 had a pink sticker afm, we put my mates afm from his R34 GTT in it and the car went fine.

He got a replacement form Just Jap.

its afm - air flow meter. Follow the airbox (where the air filter is), its the first thing bolted to it with a plug attached to it. You'll see a nice fine wire running accross the diameter.

r&r will retard ign and richen mixtures. It'll run like a dog, blow lots of smoke, have little power, and not let u above a certain rpm

If it is the coilpacks, u can fix this easy if you have an a/m ecu by increasing the time they fire for. You could also try reducing the spark plug gap to 0.8mm

ild take it to nissan and get it onto consult
