What we use;

4WD Transfer = Castrol Transmax Z

Automatic Transmission = Castrol Transmax Z

Manual Transmission = Castrol Syntrans 75W-85 or Castrol Syntrax 75W-90

Differential = Castrol SAF-XA

Differential = Castrol SAF-XA is only valid for a LS Differential, right?

Btw.

Here's the recommendation from BP for R33GTST:

Engine:

Visco 7000 0W-40 4.1 litres

Manual Transmission:

SHX-M75W-90 2.8 litres

Differential:

SHX-M75W-90 1.3 litres

I spoke to my mechanic about the rear diff anyway, I provided 75w-90 for the rear lsd, and he said when he was at nissan they put 140 in the rear lsds of aus delivered 32 GTRs (I don't know if he meant 80w140 or straight 140), thats when I brought up the service manual specifying 85w90 or was it 80w90, which then he brought up a valid point; the service manual is a literal translation from japanese to english not taking into account Australian conditions. Just food for thought.

140 is a bit heavy for a diff in a road sedan/sports vehicle...I tend to recommend this oil for the heavy duty four wheel drives or some racing applications.

Australia conditions are harsher and warmer but this usually relates more to the winter viscosity (start up) rating than the warmed up operating temperature rating.

did my box and diff this weekend (engine last weekend)

second was near impossible on the first shift on a winters morning, hence why i changed it.

upon draining, i only got 2.8L out of it, but it looked pretty clean.

decided to go penrite to see how it goes, i used sin 75 in the box, about 3.8 litres went in.

and limslip 90 in the diff, 1.4 came out (some funky purple color), 1.8 went back in.

and a bottle of nulon G90 between em.

second i beautiful now, even on an icy cold ass outback morning. :)

i bought a little hand pump from supercheap for 8bucks, but it wouldnt move the oil at all, so i made up a crude rig with garden hose, masking tape and a couple of stools. worked a treat (ive always done it this way on all my cars, just tryed the pump hoping it would make it easier and neater.......no, freakin mess cleaning up after realising it wasnt gonna do it

the box was really clean as it had a little tiny bit of threat tape on each plug, so i did the same when i put em back in

so far so good, i'll let yas know if i have any dramas with the penrite, but all seems good atm

I have similiar question to the above one.

I have just purchased a ER33 RB25 auto . . . and found to my supprise the oil on the dipstick was almost an inch above the high mark for a hot reading . . not good when I was checking it cold!!

Does anyone have any idea of ammounts and which oil to put in?

Mate, you were checking auto trans level with engine running, after going thru all gears werent you? a lot of people assume its like engine & should be checked turned off...

Your comment about needing 1.5 litres got me to thinking as Duncan has suggested that the transfer case takes 2.0 litres. I looked in the workshop manual and it suggests 1.8 litres. For the record I put 2.0 litres in mine last night (I could not get the filler plug out and thought it would be just as good to pour in the exact quantity). I didn't notice any real problems today; but I guess the difference between 1.8 litres and 2.0 litres is relatively small!

For fluids the manual recommends

Transfer case (page CH-59) - 1.8 litres of Nissanmatic fluid D [approx. 1.8 litres]

Manual transmission (page CH-23) - Nissan gear oil MP-G special GL-4 #75-90 [approx 4.1 lites]

Front final drive (page CH-125) - Nissan gear oil hypoid GL-5 85W-90 [approx. 1.0 litre]

Rear final drive (page CH-125) - Nissan gear oil hypoid LSD GL-5 80W-90 [approx. 1.5 litres]

I have no personal opion as to the products and quantities; but I thought I would provide reference to the manual to round out the discussion.

Hey i'm running a R34 GTT and the guy at autobarn which sells motul tells me i only need 2.5litres for the manual transmission and 1.8 litres for the frond and rear diff..can anybody confirm this..because i dont want meself to run out on oil while i fill in and this is the only car i drive...and did anyone use the motul 90 PA differential oil..? how is it conparing to penrite LSD 90 and redline 75w-90 gear oil..??

GTT doesn't have a front diff, unless you've done a 4WD conversion. The above quote is from the R32 GTR service manual, gearbox fluid capacity is very hit and miss, GTR boxes seem to take the full 4.1l, but non-GTR boxes can be anything from 2.x litres to 3.x litres

hey im changing the trans (manual) and diff and probably transfer oil in my skyline... ive got a r34 gt4, so does that mean it has LSD diffs?

if it does, which i think it does, would castrol LSX90 go good in them?

It was definately done with the engine running . . I had just driven 15k home . . thats what was so strange.

When I got under to find a drain plug I also couldnt find one???!!??

just a quick question , has anyone used royal purple ATF man auto trans fluid in there autos

the only reasion why i am asking is becasue its same as transmax Z etc ............ so i was just wondering if anyone has used it before and thoughts on how it stood up

changed diff oil and gbox today

gbox : Castrol VMX-M not vmx80 as per listings on castrol site

diff : Castrol LSX 90

i tried to get penrite but repco and supercheap didnt have what i needed in stock so i just used castrol

hey guys,

so apparently castrol seems to be the way to go?

what temp does the diff tend to run at? the castrol site recommends their 80w140 diff oil if operating "consistently above 30oC". would this be ok in my stock gtt?

obviously im a noob, but im constantly amazed at how much there is to learn, eg: engine oil, diff and gearbox oil, spark plugs etc... lol

any advice is appreciated, thanks
