From the household P plater:

It depends on when you got your P1 licence.

Befor 01 May 2005 & havent had any suspensions or loss of licence you may drive anything you wish.

After 01 May 2005 you are restricted to what you can drive but you make seek an excemtion(spl) from the RTA for the sum of $40 if this car is your only mode of transport to & from your place of work.

that only works if there r no train or buses that go to ur work and there are too many other options out there for different cars you can buy. Basically you wont get an excemption. I tried, didnt work, perfect driving record doesnt even count for anything. Good luck tho.

check on the back of your licence if it has under conditions prohibeted from driving restricted vehicles then you can't and will have to wait or use it only for the track.

Do you really think the RTA will check that? No they dont. You pay the 40 & your on your way. Just because you8've had bad experence doesnt mean this kid will too.
