hey i hav a 93 s1 r33 current mods are: ase FMIC, hks 3.5" cat bak zorst, walbro 500hp fp, pod, standard turbo as far as im aware, running @ 11psi and standard ecu. My car made a healthy 221.1rwkw on the dyno at turbo tune. After speaking to a few ppl they think that its immpossible to make that sort of power with the standard turbo. The only thing i could think of is mayb my turbo is hi-flowed?? coz its def not bigger than the standard t3 :( just wanted to kno ppls thoughts on this and if any1 has a similar setup getting similar kw's??

it is possible.

A lot of people cant see how my car has made 180 odd on stock 8 psi (RB25 S2 turbo) with stock ecu, but it has done so on more than one occasion.

there's lot's of variables to consider, Healthy as engine, happy dyno (Read: dyno producing higher numbers, although not saying this is the case), possible highflow, dyno room temps, tuning, or simply a freak engine.

At the end of the day though, a dyno is a tuning tool, and nothing more. Dyno figures are nothing more than bragging rights, so be happy with the dyno sheets saying 221KW's and tell everyone to shut the f**k up.

bish33,

Bring it down to the dyno day on the 8th of march and see how it compared to others on the day.

Typically on the boostworx dyno r33's with similiar mods pull 190-200rwkw. With an adj. exh. cam gear around 210.

Even playing field; same dyno operator, same strapping down technique, same dyno.

Did you get a copy of the dyno sheet?

Scan it and put it up here.

I've been told that if they set up the temp, pressure etc incorrectly then you can get high figures (sounds like this is the case with yours)

Drift Pig is correct that dynos are really for tuning not true figures, but if callabrated they should be close to the mark.

I have many more mods and only make 30 extra rwkw, perhaps your ecu has been modified, or you have a high flow, but if not I doubt the 221rwkw figure is accurate.

My R32GTR made 199rwkw in nearly stock form with after market muffler , pod filters and a chiped ecu, so my thought's are that it is not an accurate dyno figure.

My old seies 2 R33gts25t made 135rwkw with only a muffler on it. Mark at Tillbrooks said that that was a perfect reading for a stock motor. (should be about 185kws at the motor)

Just my thought's anyway.

Hope it helps answer your question.

30rwkw doesn't sound like a lot but factor in the auto + your mid range would rip his to pieces making the acceleration difference look more like 50-60rwkw.

I agree, but the reading sounds way too high for a stock motor.

Either there are more mods than stated or the dyno is high.

I dont believe in the "freak engine" theory as its way outside a blueprinted (all specs are spot on) range of performance. (and i assume this isnt a recently rebuilt motor)

bish33.

What afr's is it running up around peak power?

My bets the afr's are spot on or a tad lean. Which indicates with a stock ecu the fuel pump is on its last legs.

Give it 6months it will continue to lean out more so and we will hear of how your rebuilding the motor due to broken ring lands. :S

Post the dyno sheet with afr's so we can see what state of tune it is in.

it is possible.

how?

ive never seen 200+ out of a stock r33 ecu?

they cant be remapped like the r32 ect. thats why most people go safc or pfc.

this is the point im trying to make, maybe i should have been clearer.

Wasnt saying anything about the ecu's themselves, moreso that a setup like that can produce numbers like that. Ive seen it. My engine makes 180 on 8 psi and stock ecu. Most need a remap and more boost to achieve that. Admittedly that was running a tad lean, but not dangerous. Even though it was a tad lean, still makes more power than it really should. My engine also has SFA km's on it, and was also out of an auto front cut. Some setups will make more power than others, fact of life. Not every setup is the same.

And they CAN be remapped. Utter B.S that that they cant. Although the cost of it is almost triple a standard remap, hence why everyone goes PFC/SAFC etc, But when a R33 ECU is remapped it's better than a PFC (Knock Control etc)

(Ben Awaits SimonR32 to come a-running and say the same :) )

At the end of the Day, who Give a shit? A tuner can make my 180 odd kw RB20 read 400KW's at the wheels If I so asked him to.

Bish 33

We cant tell you much at all without a dyno sheet, and if you REALLY want to know the answer, take your car to someone like Boostworx, Turbo Tune or ATS, and get them to look at the turbo and have your question answered once and for all.

yeah i think i said the exact same thing in another thread somewhere... once the 33 ecu is remapped, its a better ecu then a Power FC thats for sure.. however most go the PFC for ease of use and more tuners.

Theres a few ppl doing 33 remaps now... but for me, the 20 ecu + a RPM switch works a treat (i havent hooked up an rpm switch yet but its possible to do so that you can retain the VCT)

As for the original poster... while nothing is impossible.. its highly unlikely the stock ecu will allow you to run anything more then 10 psi without some form of rich and retard, and there fore limiting the power output. So this suggest that you may well have a SAFC hidden away uunder the dash, or possible a japanese remapped/chipped 33 ecu... i'd pull the kick panel off and look at the loom for spliced wires and have a look at the ecu and see if theres anything non standard about it.

the stock turbos do however make good power. as mentioned mine made 220 rwkw on 13 psi, with a remapped 20 ecu, no VCT and bulk torque and responce.. i was really happy with it

My fuel pump is only 3months old so i cant see how its leaning out, turbo tune hav done all my work i hav had my car tuned 3 times in the last 3 months so im sure if it was leaning out they would hav told me coz thats why a got a new fp in the 1st place my car was gettin .8 of litre at idle wen its meant to get 3Ls. The dyno was not on shoot out mode and he did put all the right factors in the comp b4 running my car on the dyno i do not believe this was an incorrect readout, as i do not kno much about the history of my car mayb it has more mods that i am unware of, and a way to find out would be to pull my engine down i wont be doin that lol.And i would be happy to take it to the dyno day, curious to see wat it gets on a different dyno :)

    • Hey all, I'm sorry if this has been discussed before.  I have a 2008 Japanese import V36 coupe with nav but without Bose. I bought one of those AliExpress android screens, which for the most part works really well.  The only thing that doesn't work is the air con controls (well sort of) and the factory reverse camera.  The AC can be controlled fine but it doesn't report the change in temp and mode to the screen, and the volume knob/other audio controls from the panel don't register on the learning app.  I am pretty certain that the problem is the difference in the head unit between base model (Nav but no Bose) 2007-2009 coupes and anything after 2009.  Mine is the one with the blue connector all the way to the right as seen in this forum post:  The reason I think this is there is one wire left over that doesn't fit anywhere on this head unit, or in the factory screen which also uses different connectors to more recent versions.  I've seen the upgrade from OWC, and have sent the guy a message on eBay but no response yet.  I also don't particularly need the whole kit, just *maybe* an adapter for this one cable.  Did anyone else here have the same problem, or have any insight about what I can do to get this working?  I have been in contact with the seller but all they seem to be able to do is ask for more pictures and videos. Minor edit to add:  I have been researching and found a screen on Aliexpress that actually specifies my head unit in the listing, so these things do exist.  I will contact the seller to see if the wiring adapters are interchangeable with other screens.   Thanks in advance!
