Trent, what Toyo tyres were on the S13 that Baron purchased. He was kind enough to give me a steer at PI and the tyres put up with about 5-6 laps and were still way better then i expected.

PS...hats off to the way that car is screwed together. Its a great car! :)

Have you thought about kumho Ecsta SPT's

im currently running them and loving them

much better then the Bridgy G3s

if you interested i can take you for a spin in my car?

I'll have a ask around about them.

No need for a spin but thanks. :)

what do you want to know?

Are the extra $$ really worth it?

I hardly ever push the car to its cornering limits so really what I want to know is are the T1Rs noticeably better for straight line acceleration grip or are the benefits primarily with cornering?

troy, the proxes 4 are on the silvia, and yeah they are not too bad at all. I'm not really used to using street tyres on the track, but they held up well to 120kms of phillip island. then another 1000+ freeway kms home. they aren't noisy. I wouldn't say they are super grippy, but they are a road tyre after all, and on the road they are pretty decent. :)

Yep, picked it up friday night then drove it at Phillip Island on saturday. tough track! Car held up well, driver it has to be said was pretty average after 4 hours sleep friday night ;) awesome track though. very, very different to anything we have in NSW. maybe we can run in your R35 around there... :):D:P

Just got back to sydney an hour ago.

Hey ppls,

I'm up for a set of tyres.

Is there any one who has ran both the Toyo T1r and Proxes 4?

Probably won't get too many replies but.....

Are the extra $$ really worth it?

So are you running the Proxes 4 at the moment? Have you been happy with them? Im thinking about getting them for my street rims. People know what the common asking price is for them in the 235/40/17 range?

what was the car that you bought richard? what were the mods?

well I don't want to whore up the thread too much, but I did at least give one helpful reply!

I bought an S13 silvia. quite a few mods. but some of the main ones: SR20, 2 way lsd, Trust T518Z, stainless mani, Blitz/ORC clutch, PFC, 550injectors, Z32 AFM, S14 box, coil-overs, 5 stud conversion, R33 brakes, FMIC, trust exhaust, Uras N+ kit etc. took it to phillip island on the weekend. and I will see you at some drift practice soon! seems all the cool kids are doing it, and you can show me how! I'm novice. :)

Well, i've got the T1R's, only in 205/55/R16 so they're not very big. Ummm they've been pretty good, Awesome traction for a road tyre. The Proxes 4's were $10 cheaper than the T1R's in the same size at the time i bought mine.

There's some drifters in the Toyo drift series using the proxes 4's to drift on. The twin turboed LS1 R34 (the red one, i can't remember the team name or driver) uses them. Apparently they're quite consistent when used for drifting and when the tread wears down. As for street use, ican't comment on that. But it can't be bad.

I figured for myslef, why not get toyo's flagship tyre for just the few extra $$. Well it was only $10 per tyre for me at the time. Plus the wet weather grip was unbelievable. I've got the usual 190-200rwkw, on a soaked wet bituman(not even hot mix) on a standard take off not dumping the clutch, it would grip under full acceleration and not even lose traction on gear changes. Pretty good in my books. Great aquaplaning resistance too.

One thing i did notice, as soon as i got them on the car, in just regular driving and harder driving (twisties) you could feel that the tread was quite soft and there was a quite noticable extra amount of side to side movement in the tread. But this icky feeling soon dissappeared after a couple of weeks and some driving on them.

So thats all the experience i have to offer.

No unfortunately not. :D

I went with the suspension + reasonable tyres + ebc + cams + new steer rack and a few other bits route instead.

Otherwise it would have been only wheels and tyres which I would not have enjoyed anywhere near as much.

So far the short 20km drive quite happy with the Proxes 4. Nice and grippy in a straight line. They have 2x the straight line grip of a near new 245/40/18 nankang NS2.

    • Hey all, not sure how active SAU is anymore but will ask away anyways. Just wanted to get some experience on the 2008 model GTR CBA model.  I've hit that age in my life (43) where I'm like fk it time to get my dream (midlife crisis) car. Looking at importing one in and seeing if these can be reliable if the main flaws are fixed up. Plan is to keep money aside to do the following straight off the bat to future proof it: * install a stage 1 rebuilt trans with all new bits and pieces.  * install a new Bellhousing from the later model GTRs. Or potentially an upgraded stronger version like MAD or ATR. Besides the above two things and typical maintenance items anything else you'd recommend doing.   Been speaking to a few people and the engine on these are very reliable apparently. But keen on the view of the community here. Hoping to find a nice grade 4.5 with low mileage in Grey. I'd go black but swirls too easy. Look forward to your responses and feedback. Cheers
    • Do Alan and Keith work on Skylines now? I remember buying stuff from them when I owned my Ralliart Lancer a few moons ago. Definitely genuine guys and be excellent if they dealt with the skyline platform as well.
    • Hey all, I'm Gaston from Sydney's West.  I was a member on here when I was a younger lad and owned a mint R33 GTS-T. Ended up selling it and getting married having kids (yadda yadda) we all know how the story goes. Now I'm back with the intention to get my midlife crisis (dream) car ... a R35 GTR.  You'll see me about asking questions and searching the forums. Good to be back and can't wait to get back an Import again.
    • I have to put something here in order to post the photos. From what I could gather there's more enthusiasm for modified cars now than there has been for years. There were probably more younger people there than older (me included lol) which was a good sign.  It did seem like the record least amount of representation of the 90's era hero cars on display though. Like maybe one or two examples of S-chassis Nissans, and maybe 3 or 4 R-chassis. By comparison there were a lot of Civics from that era but in all there were about 10 - 12 EG/EK Civic Type R.  Euro exotics are always there in large numbers, led by Liberty Walk...... say what you will about kids using markers to scribble on a Ferrari F40, it did seem like a stunt to infuriate Ferrari enthusiasts, or Ferrari itself. I wonder if there's something more to it. Either way LBWK have done some heinous things to a Lamborghini Miura this time. They should stop now.
    • Engines and drivelines are not war stoppers for me mate, busted arse bodies and un-obtainium parts and panels are though Both cheap Brumbies I looked at had trashed tubs and a fair bit of rust
