Hiya Everyone,

I have just noticed recently that I have a fairly substantial amount of rust in my rear wheel arch.....

My questions to everyone are firstly is anyone else experiencing any rust in their skylines yet???

Secondly I need some advice on where I can get this cut out??? I posted in the panel beater thread already but I would like more of a response as I want to chase up some prices from places this weekend....

So post any problems you have had with rust in your skylines and please let me know of any good places to take my car to get it cut out...

Thanks

Brett

Brett - I'm not sure of a place to get it cut out, but there is this stuff you can buy which converts the rust back to metal and stops further rust forming in the area. You have to rub it back with a wire brush or something the apply this. I will try and get the name of it from my dad... but I'm sure of you ask at hardware store, they could help

Hi Guys. I was brought up in the land of the rusty car, the UK, and I have fought many long battles with the stuff on various cars, including a beautiful 260Z, which dropped to bits around me. So I can tell you that the only way to cure it is to cut it out and replace it with good metal. All of these things that claim to convert rust back to good metal are crap. I know 'coz I spent hundreds on them!! And I diligently brushed and painted and coated even beyond their expectations - and it still didn't bloody work!

I know the UK is a harsher climate than sunny WA, but if the stuff has set in you will be very fortunate indeed if such a surface treatment will be effective. Theoretically they should work, but in practice they never do.

Just don't spend too much time by the ocean on windy days!

Cheers.

Firstly thanks for the responses so far :(

The rust seems to have worked its way all the way around the wheel arch..... in most places it is just bubbling under the paint but for about 10cm's it has actually broken open and you can see the crack in the metal....

My car is always garaged and taken very good care off.... But then again I don't know the life it has had in Japan..... Mechanically my car is very sound, but I am getting a little rust.... I suppose thats the risk you take when importing cars :)

I will look into all options but I would still be more comfortable in having it cut out so I know its gone for sure....

Keep those replies comming ;)

Thanks :)

The reason for it will be that it's had a replacement 1/4 panel and the Jap beaters don't reprepare the join properly , hence water and dirt gets trapped between the inner and outer skin.

Only way is to get it professionally cut out ( not bogged ) and repainted.

Cheers

Ken

That's what I thought ( In terms of cutting it out ) .... any recommendations of quality workshops? I plan to go around to a few places this saturday morning to get some quotes and I want to make sure I am visiting the right places..... PM's will also be welcome if name dropping on a public forum is a concern...

Thanks

Brett
