4th of March, i already have Iridiums and Oil change is coming up, so that will be done next week. I think my plugs need to be regapped though to .8mm as i get some hesitation at 5000+rpm

Ive currently got full 3" Xforce exhaust, fmic, catco cat and Apexi Pod

ok.

1.) iridium spark plugs can't be regapped. the iridium tip is pretty fragile in that any effort to regap it will damage it and leave the plug useless.

2.) hesitation at 5000rpm in the cars current state will only get worse with extra air flow from new turbo and more boost.

if the car is taken to CRD as it is, they will not regap those plugs, they will insist on new plugs. new iridium plugs that is.

and while tuning, if sparks starts to break up and you get the usual misfire at 5000rpm range, they will insist on new splitfire coils (around $500).

This is why I suggested that you buy NEW COPPER plugs that are pre gapped to 0.8mm (but check them all with a feeler before instaling them). there has been many discussions on here about iridium v copper etc.

iridiums will last longer than copper. however, copper as a metal, is a better conductor of electricity and is a superior material over iridium for that reason, when used in spark plugs.

Go to supercheap and buy 6 NGK BCPR6ES – 8 plugs (the -8 is the one that is already gapped to 0.8) if they don't have that, then get the BCPR6ES – 11 (which is gapped at 1.1mm and you will have to gap them down to 0.8)

they cost about $4 each.

If I were you, I'd do that this weekend.

then go for a trash.

if you still get the misfire, then do the cheap fix of taping up your coils until you can afforf new Splitfire coils.

So I suggest you spend under $40 on tape and spark plugs this weekend, and about 2 hours of your time, and prepare the car for it's tune.

I'm sure Jim will know what boost to set it to, but as a guide, RB25 turbo on a 2.5L RB25, general consensus is that 10psi is a safe limit. people have run 12 psi but not really got "that" much more power than those that run 10psi.

however, puting that turbo on to a 2L means that 12psi would be like it was spining to create 10 psi on the 2.5L.

so that would be a safe limit on the RB20.

Personally, if I go back to an RB20 with RB25 turbo, I will set it to 14psi and get my ecu remapped to suit.

and with your mods, just get a off the shelf remap....

there's a dude on this forum called CEFF1E that have them for like $150 for those exact mods that you have.

I'm running 14.5PSI on my RB25 S1 turbo and my car runs like a dream, dynoed it before and got 179rwkws with close to 12:1 A/F...

Mind you I'm using that piece of shiet justjap special x-force cat which is rubbish, probably get more gains with a proper cat.

SAFC does not adjust timing so no. I don't think that you will get 180rwkw with an RB25 turbo and SAFC tune.

haha yet there are so many people that start threads saying they have a "freak" and are making 190rwkw from a factory ecu, turbo, AFM, etc etc, and say that I'm jealous and shit because there car made so much power on the "dyno" they took it too..

Mate it is in your best interests to get yourself a fully tunable ECU. maybe even look into the Daughter boards that they are starting to supply for the RB25. I'd love to get my hands on one of those.

180kw is the average result from the rb20 dyno results thread. So i rekon its possible. Im probably gonna have to postpone this tune, as i have to resolve the defects i got yesterday :rofl:

I dont believe i need a full ecu, as i dont want results over 200kw

My 20 made 183rwkw @ 12psi with Rb25 turbo and no remap, Shoot_6F mode, ambient temp 24deg. Why is it so hard to believe?

what was the inlet temp?

I find it hard to believe because a lot of dynos are too happy

don't turn this in to one of "those" threads.

people have their dyno printouts and are happy with it so leave it be.

for the record, my first r32 rb20 with rb25 turbo made 153rwkw on 10 psi and no change to ecu.

and if I recall, the a:f was about 11.9:1

I don't remember the dyno settings as it was back about 5-6 years ago now.

Did u get the ecu remapped or different ecu/pggyback?

what i've noticed is there all for manuals with fmic. mines auto(built up+stally) with smic(34)

i would prefer to have just the 1 tuner,not 2 as things could get confusing.Especially if 1 doesn't agree

on the others product/work.

If there was a place you could drive into,it would be so much easier.

Why would you use those over priced, non performance gaining, crap plugs anyway?

$120 for 6 plugs vs $20 for 6 plugs.

$100 difference, thats 2 x 5l bottle of oil for your engine..

I'm sure its been said already in this thread. You can regap them, but your not supposed to.

NGK iridium are iridium coated and have a fine electrode tip. When they're regapped, there's a high chance you'll chip some of the iridium coating off and damaging the fine electrode, greatly reducing the life of the plug. If you want .8mm iridiums, you can buy them pre-gapped for the same price.

Coppers don't have this problem because they're solid copper, it doesn't matter if you scratch the electrode.

If you haven't had problems regapping iridiums then good for you. Buts its not recommended to do so.

Just an update.

I have regapped some NGK BKR7E copper plugs, problem has gone. It also feels alot smoother idling and going thru the revs. Changing oil this afternoon, and im going to crd tomorrow for the turbo change and all. And the followng day, a tune.

if they ring you and tell you theres any form of problem (if your lucky they wil tell you) ensure you clearly state if you want them to fix it or not.

ive had a few bad experiences with CRD. 1 example. was sick of removing the stainless manifold and getting it repaired so gave it to them to do it. $1500 and 3 weeks later got nothing more than a external gate that was plumbed incorrectly and massively overboosting.
