Aight,

My coooling fan clutch is officially shagged. It had a good life. Now the fan is really noisy all thru the rev range (sounds like an old VB commo now! ugh!)

The fan no longer spins freely with the engine off... hmmm... ahwell.

Anyone know where I can get a new clutch pack for these things in perth ? How much am I looking at ?

Or can I repack the bearings and not spend much cash on this stoopid thing?

What about a thermo-electric fan, how much are these suckers goin for ? DIY install ?

-Kym

Go for an electric fan, for sure. I'm just waiting for mine to die so I can convert :P.

Davies-Craig have a few but they cost dollars (~$300). Could try seeing whats avaiable in 12-16" at the wreckers. DIY install is possible; try a search cos a few ppl have done it.

Kym,

I'm not sure - but if the fan is anything like the ones on the RB30 engine - it hangs directly off the waterpump shaft. Your fan clutch not working if the fan is on the waterpump shaft is a bad thing - read again - a bad thing. If the fan is running all the time and stops when the engine stops this means that whatever bearings are holding the shaft are being put under alot more stress than normal.

Fix it quick or suffer the wrath of having to replace a waterpump..

Hmmm. That was going to be my next question cam, thanks for the heads up. I'd figure it'd be something like that.

All that extra stress on those parts can't be good.

Alright, I dont wanna spend loadsa cash on this project.... where can I get a new clutch pack for the fan on the cheap ?

Kym - again - if it's the same one as the RB30 (by now you should realise I'm not sure) then repco or marlows or any place like that should have one. I bought one a few years back for a VL and that was around $140.. Thermo may be cheaper in the end...

GUYS! DO NOT FILL FAN CLUTCH WITH SALASTIC! It'll have the same effect as the current situation and will end up rooting your water pump very quickly - the fan hangs off the water pump shaft... ref - my first post in this thread... :D
