Yes, the cars can't possibly be "identical". And the drivers definitely aren't "identical" (driving style). They tried to compensate each driver's weight by loading bags of sugar into the boot. But that changes the whole weight balance of the car.

It might have been a bit more believable if each driver had a stint in each car.

Needs a Myth Buster me thinks

1 car 10 litres test track, run car till empty repeat for each brand, with the conditions of the same car and driver and crusing speed.

each new car has build variation and tunnning is different, 1 car might be 120kw another could be 123kw. I don't believe it is a true test. IMO

i stll don't understand how different octane fuel affects economy

is there some "real" reason i - mean 98 from shell and 98 from caltex

Paul....to my knowledge when you run a better fuel in a car (either a better quality fuel or one with a higher octane rating) the cars ecu adjusts the amount of fuel/air to compensate. Hence a better fuel will be used less to obtain the same result and you get better fuel economy.

To test they should put a car on a dyno

i remember a car function i had to goto for work and they had normal bp vs bp 98 on two dynos twy cars same make same everything and on the dyno the normal bp killed it by like 30rkw and then the guy trying to sell the item was like stunned

but none the less i use any 98 oct i have been using 100oct a bit latly how ever just seems to burn quicker then anything with no real performance gains knock on the power fc stays around the same to

has anyone used say 98 with oct booster?

Yes I do every 3rd tank, and man that tank of fuels last for ages, and the power phew. :teehee:

Its pretty simple really. Caltex dont caibrate their pumps properly and we get shafted :teehee: LOL, before christmas i had to stand in a line while the guy in front of me was complaining how the bowser said he had put over 5.5L into his little 5L gerry can. He swore he has been using it for decades and the thing always took just on 5L !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Got me thinking...they could be robbing us blind in so any different ways. Suffice to say this guy walked off with a complaints phone number...i wonder how far he got with his claim ?

To me it all depends on if I went to Safeway or Coles for the shopping the week before...

I've always put in the 98... ...but once I was out of the city in a really small town and had to bite it and put in normal unleaded... ...And it seem to have a lot more grunt... ...My dad was with me and thought the same thing... ...It just didn't seem to last as long as the 98...

As for the Bio-Fuels / Ethanol I don't know about the Liberty brand... ...But United's fuel is Ethanol made from sugar grown in Queensland which is added to "normal" fuel...

Where Bio-Fuel is totally made from product other than "normal" fuel... ...And Ethanol is in there to help it go bang...

A few friends that have 4x4s and started using Bio-Fuel made from "chip fat" (e.g. Macca's fat) found that it cleaned out their fuel systems which meant that they had to change the fuel filters and some other parts quite a few times before it all settled down...

Now that they have it all set up and are making their own fuel as well... ...the thing they have to worry about the most is the smell of popcorn and chips comming out the back pipes...
