well i got RB74 front pads, and they squealed when no brake was applied, when applied it is quite normal for them to squeak. So i got my discs machined cos they were warped and had a lip, wow it worked! no more squeal. BUT i was at the track today, and after the day they now squeak again and very annoying! The discs i think are too thin to be machined again, wat do you reccommend ? new discs ? or could it be some thing else like dirt stuck between pad and rotor? :P please help me

Maybe the pistons arent retracting all the way, my car had the same drama, you could always hear the pads rubbing on the rotors.

It wasnt until you pressed the pedal and the pad was in full contact witht the rotor that the noise went away.

Had the calipers re-built, now they are as good as new.

When you machined the discs did you sand back the pads as well? Both pads and discs will become glazed over time, and if you scrub one back without the other, the one you scrubbed back will just get glazed again really quickly and you'll be back to where you started.

Could be the discs are too thin too, things will glaze up easier if there's a lot of heat involved. I think new DBA4000 discs are around $200 each. It may seem expensive, but they are probably a lot cheaper and definitely a lot better than the OEM items.

If you are really pushed for cash, maybe try buying someone's second hand discs? If you do, make sure you check for run-out. The factory items are 30mm thick when new, and need to be replaced at 28mm.

Its not cheap, and you cant be sure that calipers need rebuilding until they are apart, then its too late as most of the expense has already been incurred.

If you need new rotors then that is the logical place to start. People laugh at the lengths i go to, to make sure my brakes are properly cooled down after each run at the track.

Its all you can really do to stop them from warping/cracking, that and not using the handbrake when you park it after a run.

the pads were brand new when i got the discs machined, they hadnt been bedded in yet. The machining took the squeal away after the track day they started to squeak again. The calipers are fine, dont need a rebuild, its most likely the discs are quite thin so theres still abit of warp in them. I will live with it for now as its on and off thing (hard metalic pads create squeaks) im looking to upgrade to GTS-T brakes in the future without a stud conversion, the calipers can bolt straight on, they are just fatter and i might need new wheels :D Thnkas for the help ppls, Ben i dont think i will buy them, thanks neways im not sure if the GTS-T discs are much bigger? as the pads are the same size

Roy- i always drive around the track again using no brake to cool them down and i dont use the handbrake to park either, but its only the fronts which squeak, id say its the thin discs and new pads. with the standard pads i used them twice on the track and they were gone, ive used the race brakes once and they havent even lost a mm and that was real hard braking

My recommendation is slotted rotors too, since I have fitted them to my car, not only do I get a lot loss fade on the track, but no squeak either...more a low pitched groan under heavy braking as the rotor chops up the pads.

DBA's are good and reasonably priced, check their website

Hey, and i dont rev yours over 4,500 - 5,000rpm, you have seen how i drive my car when i get excited. Me in my car = Drive:mad:

Actually, i think i should just say thanks for the drives, and think of ways to thank you, need your car detailed?:P

As for Comp 15 pads, PM Silver-Arrowz, i think he uses them, may have been Comp 9s and whatever he is using is hard on rotors.

    • The car is still in paint jail. Here are some paint jail photos of things in primer and disassembled. I visited yesterday, though these photos were from about a month ago, the status is much the same. There's just more dust now. Especially inside the car too, which apparently is fine and normal... but I think I'll be never ever having a clean interior ever again lol.   As this has dragged along, a few new parts have also arrived which was supposed to be well after paint... where Greg replaces every single bit of the engine except the bottom end. This is extreme LS nerd stuff dialed to 11/10 that's probably not really suited for target audience here. (and there's more in the mail, from the US). .
    • The GTT probably only has the same little bag of tools that the R32 had, which contained useless pliers, a spanner or two, a screwdriver thingo, and the handle and crank stuff for the jack.
    • ? 2s of searching finds this thread  
    • Could someone post some pictures of the factory Jack , tools, spare tire and how they were in a 1998 ER34 2 door skyline originally?
