Is any1 using a ppg dog box helical setup on there GTR or GTS as i have recently put 1 in on my GTR dont get it back till this saturday never drivin a dog before so it going to take some getting used to i hear. If anyone has 1 would like to know there experiences with these gearboxes. How hard are they 2 use? STATUS Posted February 19, 2008 Share Posted February 19, 2008 they take about 10mins to get used to... so dont worry. i drove mark phillips full dog boxed r33 in peak hour melbourne traffic (and track) on numerous occasions without any issues. i have also driven a few wrx's and so forth whilst tuning and they are vry easy to live with... the opposite could be said of the few PAR boxes ive driven. Sydneykid Posted February 20, 2008 Share Posted February 20, 2008 For some people it's easy, for me I find dog boxes take a while to get used to once I have been out of the race car for a while. I lose the technique that dog engagment needs quicknes and firmness of shift, unlike a synchro box which will handle quite slow changes. Down changes with rpm match are OK, it's the upshifts that take time to get used to. The only advice I can give is to be firm (not harsh), not tentative, get it into gear with precision and speed. I assume it has straight cut gears, so take your ear plugs with you.
