Thanks, yeah they put a big tape and sticker over my power window switches that says DO NOT WIND WINDOWS DOWN FOR 48 HOURS in big red writing.

I still go to do as soon as I get in the car, then I see the sticker and im like...oh yeh. Just a habit I guess lol.

Very happy with the tint, wish they did the front as well though.

hardest 48 hours of my life...

My mate was charged $230 for legal on his VP, then mechanic at work get legal on his Aurion for $280 mates rates, and I was quoted $300, all from the same place!! wtf? Still trying to get parents to let me get 20%, they say if I get it they will kick me out of the garage :(. I need to get my own house!! Although I think I'll just get it done anyway.

haha i see, yeh 20% looks really good i think, i dont like them black so u cant see through, but i dont like light tint either and i think 20% is just right..

but then again, some really dark tint suits some cars

that is cheap - surely that price was not for the entire car?

Tint looks cool mate, good choice.

I run 5% all over my black r33 and it looks great, never have any problems (touches wood) with legalities. Anybody considering 5% should just go out and do it, chances are driving a skyline there going to be adding other "illegal" modifications so whats one more

I'm in two minds about getting the door glass tinted - the quarters and rear window were already done in Japan, the existing tint is very dark and presumably not exactly legal in Aus, so the remaining glass tint would be quite a bit lighter.

Sometimes I'd really prefer a bit more privacy, hence the idea of tinting the doors - this assuming I can get film that matches the existing tint in tone, etc.

Anyway, help me make my mind up! :)

Pros and Cons, people?

Cheers

My 2c's - Get it done..!!

Pros- Privacy, improves Air con, looks sh*t hot, stops inside of car from heating up as much especially when parked up..

Cons - harder to see out whilst (hasnt been bad from my experience), personally i find i have to put the windows down when reversing as its hard to use the mirrors with dark tint, prone to damage...

Anything ive missed...?

Con: Defects :nyaanyaa:

Does anyone know if it is illegal to have 5% tint on the back and side windows like the R34's at the top of this thread, and then legal on the front door windows? Alot of new American cars I noticed have that, you cant see through the rear windows!!

I would assume it is still technically illegal, yes.

The way I see it though, no need to exacerbate the situation... and you may have a much more lenient cop if they realise the tint you added was legal :) Now that some time has gone by, I don't regret going for the legal tint - it looks fine IMO and it is a lot more comfotable in the car (less glare).

Here's a better pic showing the tinted doors...

Also took the car to the detailers a week ago - had the paint swirls removed, and a general buff all over, removing minor scratches around the door handles, etc.

Man, it made a huge difference to the look of the car, a bargain for $200. The photo really doesnt do justice to the difference. Now I just have to maintain the washing and polishing the way I was told to... the detailer guy was really full-on and passionate about the subject :nyaanyaa:

    • Hi all, Restoring r33 series 1 rb25det. All the heater hoses were on their way out, have replaced them and put it all back together. After testing I noticed a small leak from behind the head on the actual metal water line to the turbo when cars warm. I tried running a longer hose over it but it kept leaking...   I am about to take the (stock) manifold off again😔 to change the water line does any one have any lines they recommend? I was looking at Aeroflow Turbo Oil & Water Line Set but not sure what everyone else recommends. Car is completely stock but want to upgrade turbo eventually. it looks like ill have to disconnect a lot just to replace these lines so if there's anything else recommended to do please let me know. Thank you in advance!
    • From memory, on the R33 GTSt at least, while everyone says "It's not adjustable", I found when I changed clutches in mine, it just needed a small adjustment on the rod length. But be very wary here, as you could end up trying to push the pushrod in the master too far, or blowing out the slave.   Most likely though, if the master/slave isn't bypassing internally or leaking out, then the throw out is the wrong height compared to the fingers on the clutch, so when it moves to disengage the clutch, it isn't 100% disengaged. You can check part of this out too by jacking the car up, having the engine running, put your foot on the clutch and try to engage 1st gear. If it goes in pretty easy (Compared to the ground) and/or the wheels start turning a fair bit and it takes a bit too much brake pedal to bring them back to a stop, this is likely the issue.  I'm not sure if you can adjust the height of the forks etc in these though, it's been that long since I've touched any RB gearbox.
    • That's all good, I thought I was missing some interesting feature! Maybe @PranK can double check if that is something that is meant to be operating or not.
    • I hope that is not something that bad. From what i remember he said that only first gear is "hard" to get in and that he has couple of ideas what to try next but idk 😕  hope it is not gearbox out. I will let you know.
    • If it's not the hydraulics, it is probably gearbox back out. Usually as per @Duncan's post, or otherwise associated with not getting the throwout fork positioned correctly. All the way up to catastrophically bolting shit back together without it being aligned properly and wrecking the clutch/input shaft/flywheel/something else.
