Gtr Vs 911 Turbo Around A Track In Car Magazine

Recommended Posts

Too much rum on your weetbix Roy.

I was fortunate enough to have a friend take me for a brief drive in a 997 Turbo. Honestly, dont care if the GTR is quicker, one looks great ... one looksy fugly. And just sitting in the Porsche is cool and even though its awd still needs to be driven, albeit less finesses is required then for say the GT2.

The GTR is just a Datsun whose styling loses out to a Hyundai Tiburon :D Ok its fast but .... and looking at that Vid, again sure its quick but looks so dettached and boring to drive. A car for the Playstation generation where at least the Porka seems to still be rather involving to drive. (From what i can tell in the vids...as i have never driven either so am talking out my ass ;) )

I've driven a few porkas Roy in circumstances that would hardly scare even granny . I havnt and most likely wont drive a 35 gtr but when i see a car perform so effortlessly i can not help but be impressed.

I can only imagine where the fineline is crossed in the gtr to make it as unstable and as much a handfull as the porka.

I do wonder at the way the porsche was set up, It is my understanding that the rear engined car is generally more tail happy than the yellow beast in the video. It begs the question, Did the powers that be set the car up in the knowledge that journos with varying skill levels would be driving it, Understeer is easier and more instinctive to bail out of than oversteer.

As for street creds, Sure, the porka has it in spades. However I do believe the 35 has already narrowed the gap and will only continue to add to its kudos courtesy of videos like this one.

Thats pretty impressive. Still i would rather the Porsche :D

Im with you Roy, great vid and interesting result but i would prefer the Porsche sitting in my drive over the R35 anyday

i'd like to see a comparisson between the gtr and the 911 gt2. the gt2 is about 200kg lighter than the turbo due to it only being rwd. i also think that if they had left the traction control on in the 911 they would've got a quicker time.

i also noticed that they ran the gtr on an empty tank too.

I used to work for a porsche dealer and was lucky enough to drive anything and everything that has a porsche badge on it.

Some of them are just piles of shit but as for the 911 TT....awesome. GT3 so much fun!!! The GT2 is still my fave tho.

For the price of them tho, they should be damn good too...

If i had the money for a 911 turbo or a R35.... Id spend it all tracking down and buyin a Z-tune R34!

I seriously want to see it on Top Gear! Stack it up against all the contenders :)

You and me both, i think it will do very well around there test track when the time comes :D

Top Gear and the Stig to see if how quick it is. Then Fifth Gear and Tiff as i agree 99 times out of 100 on what he says makes a good car. If he gets out of the heavy automatic beast and says its really fun to drive and doesnt drive like an EVO then i will maybe change my tune on the car. Not that it matters i will never own one :D There is a 89 Carrera 4 dressed up in 72 RS body and colours for sale at the moment. I am itching to buy it :)

Presently we have the Landcruiser on laid up cover, Sarah's Kluger on full cover, and the house insured. About 18 months ago Sarah wrote her Subaru Liberty GTB off, insured with Shannon's, and the payout, and buy back of the wreck was super quick. In 2020 we had the VF Commodore totalled in a major hailstorm. Storm was on the Saturday, I called on the Sunday and lodged it, vehicle was towed on Tuesday night, assessment team called on Wednesday to say it was a total loss and get payout details, money was in the bank on Thursday morning. Have had a few other claims both at fault, and not at fault, over the years, and never had an issue with them.   Funnily enough, they're also the cheapest insurer I find for things like Sarah's Kluger.   I will say I'm less impressed dealing with them lately around "the experience", as a lot of their staff that you deal with aren't car enthusiasts. Shannon's has a much more main stream feel ever since they decided to become "big corporate", laid a heap of staff off, and then hired a bunch of non enthusiasts. At the same time they've been making a push to be less "call us and we'll personally have someone who cares help" to "hey, this computer can do stuff for you" and are trying to get more square pegs to fit round holes. (That's just the vibe I get from them). Again, have had no issues with claims with them, but get a bit of a "less personal" feel from them.
    • A thing I wasn’t happy with with enthusiast was during the initial phone call they told me they’d insure it for 130k but needed photos.   I then sent them photos and they told me $80k as there were other cars either similar modifications available for around that price, I told them to send me the links to said cars so that I can buy them. i then sent the modification list with prices of the parts (no labor) and the price then came to 115k, which is still shy of the 130 that was agreed in the initial phone call
    • Ask me a bit later this week before payday
    • I agree that delayed payment probably isn't the most suitable solution. It seems a solid complete transaction would be best. As I wouldn't be using this sale as a line of credit that would typically earn interest, we can probably arrange a much cleaner single transaction deal. I can do $92.52 today. Would you prefer EFT, or Cash on Pickup?  😛
    • Oh man what a deal.... Funny enough (well not really) I sold a car to some old dude (buying for his Daughter) on a Saturday, He asked if she could take the car now and pay me the money on Monday as the bank wasn't open. Needless to say I told them to come back with the cash or get f**ked! Luckily the money seemed to magically appear in his pocket a few minutes later, so it all ended well (for me).
