Chris

eBay perhaps?

I saw something like that but instead of the chrome it was the same color as the car?

Look closer @ it, im pretty sure this is how u buy all of them for Skylines. Look at how the chrome aint flush with the light.

After u buy them, u take the shell/surround of the stock lights and put it onto your new LED ones.

You're right about the surround... ...these are the same as the ones AutoBarn stock... ...I've been looking for something like this too... ...but I want them to be totally clear... ...No red... ...until the breaks or drivers come on... ...I just don't like the look of the small red dot in the middle...

I've seen some frosted white ones at Autosalon... ...But they didn't look like they had LEDs in them... ...Just couldn't find the owner of the car to ask him where he got them...

Anyone know where I can get these???...

No Red = Yellow Sticker - ADR's require rear lights to have red reflector that is highly visible when struck by a beam.

Why go clear? the stovetops are part of what makes a 'line a 'line IMO, semi unique to the lineage (i realise that there are others similar, but it's the only one i can think with four distinctly separate lamps)

Yay i've finally been spotted!

Hey guys, this'll be my first post, been browsing for a few weeks and going to sign up march 1 at RE Customs day. I'm the owner of the frozen r33 with a jurassic theme going on - not many people got that at autosalon, they thought it had water and clouds and shit going on but the car itself is frozen! U see me around i'll stop to say hi.

Anyways, as for my tail lights they are LED's when the lights come on. I made them myself. what i did was:

Brought some old ones from the wreckers to do a test first in case i stuffed them up

put a drill hole in the middle of the red lenses

got a heat gun and used the holes as leverages to hold onto while i pulled them off (its actually 1 piece joined in the middle but the glue just goes all around)

had my mate at a plastics place make me up some inserts which the LED's were drilled into and put together

then i got him to make me up some surrounds which i used his plastic glue to put back together!

it's that easy - the insert piece which holds the LED's goes behind the circular rough edges insert just behind the lenses, so it looks sweet and uses all the original parts

if you got any questions, or want some more pics, gimme a buzz

otherwise hope to put some faces to the usernames when im there next weekend

Ahh... ...I hung around your car for quite a while that weekend to ask you about them... ...But had to stick around our own display...

I'm guessing from the photos you put up that the reflector inside is white/clear and the whole outer cover is the red part...

yeah that's right. once you open up the 33 tail lights you'll see that the way they shine red is only by the red lenses covers. The inside reflector part is plain and has nothing to do with its color, and chucking in a red globe or red LED globe on it's own is not enough! But the bonus is the circular rough edges outer part just under the lenses is already clear, and reusable! it would look crappy if this part wasn't re-used. i'm pretty happy with the way they've turned out, and surprisingly it was the most frequently asked question everywhere i go. cheers

correction... require reflector. doesnt have to be red.

clear reflectors will do just fine

pushbike clear reflectors are cheap and can be fabricated to replace red ones in tail lights

Woah... ...Digging up old threads... :P

mine are now for sale - i got sick of the clear look and i wanted to take most my car back to standard for less reasons for cops to annoy me. if anybody is interested pm me. looking around the 250 range, the leds alone cost over 100 and i had to buy some spare sets for another 100 then all the plastic parts custom made so i'm out of pocket but will negotiate.

cheers, shane

and you dont need to tell me if you think they are awesome or ugly, i dont care for opinions, just want to move them on thanks.

    • You're making my point for me. 95 is not "premium". It is a "slightly higher octane" version of the basic 91 product. The premium product that they want people to buy (for all the venal corporate reasons of making more profit, and all the possibly specious reasons of it being a "better" fuel with nicer additive packages) is the 98 octane stuff. 95 is the classic middle child. No-one wants it. No-one cares about it. It is just there, occupying a space in the product hierarchy.
    • 98 and 95 have to meet the same national fuel standards beside the actual RON.  91 has lower standards (which are quite poor really), so 95 is certainly not 91 with some octane booster. It would be an easier argument to claim 98 is just 95 with some octane boosters. Also RON doesn't specify 'quality' in any sense, only the octane number.  Anything different retailers decide or not decide to add to their 95 or 98 is arbitrary and not defined by the RON figure.
    • Anyone know alternatives to powerplus tungsten? Can't find an alternative online.
    • 95 is just a scam outright. 98 is the real "premium" with all the best detergents and other additive packages, and at least historically, used to be more dense also. 95 is just 91 bargain basement shit with a little extra octane rating. Of course, there's 91 and there's 91 also. I always (back in the 90s early 2000s) refused to put fuel in from supermarket related fuel chains on the basis that it was nasty half arsed shit imported from Indonesia. Nowadays, I suspect that there is little difference between the nasty half-arsed shit brought in by the "bargain" chains and the nasty half-arsed shit brought in by the big brands, given that most of it is coming from the same SEAsian refineries. Anyway - if there's still anything to that logic, then it would apply to 95 also. 98 is only made in decent refineries and, as I said, is usually the "premium" fuel, both in terms of octane rating and "use this because it's good for your engine because it's got the unicorn jizz in it!".
    • Yeah since those first 2 replies I actually went and put some 98 in it and tbf it's already doing much better than the 95 (which is weird and makes my inner tinfoil hat wearer think the 95 was a crap batch), getting 8ish around town. Again, wonder if it takes a while to stabilize if the fuel is changed a couple of times. I swear cars used to just either run "well" or "s**t* in my 20s, none of this fuel optimisation business haha
