Rb25det Questions

You're playing with people's money. At 300 wheel kW you have to know what you're doing to keep the engine alive. This guy has written off 2 low powered cars, is not yet off his Ps and wants a RWD car with too much power. He will blow the engine up. And then he will come back whinging that you told him it was 'easy'.

What is this supposed to mean?

i clearly said that if his gonna drive like a dick head his gonna have to expect a blown motor.....

Andru - I'm sure you understand the term "How long is a piece of string".

it's an obvious way of telling the other person that more information is needed and that there are ALOT of variables required to give some sort of educated guestimate/answer.

You work and have uni 6 days a week.

cool.

therefore, you can hand over the cash to have your car built by a workshop.

cool.

nothing wrong with that.

But what you are doing is passing second and third hand information to people.

the work shop you are paying money to, tells you, "It will cost $10K and we will have your car producing 380rwkw" (example obviously).

then you say, what will you be doing..

they say "we'll freshen up the rb30 bottom end with new rings and bearings etc, use X head gasket, use Y turbo at Z boost and tune it up and should give you the figures.

you go.. cool. here's my number, ring me when done.

like I said.. nothing wrong with that.

then you come here and argue with the likes of R31_Nismoid who has actually had a hand in building his own motor/s.

I'm not saying he assembled it himself.

there are things you just can't do without a decked out workshop.

Opinions are like arseholes... you know that saying as well right?

It's just the way you GIVE your opinion on here that rubs people up the wrong way.

You have not seen or experienced first hand what 300rwkw is like on an RB25.

you have not had work done to your own RB25 to make 300rwkw.

you are going by other peoples dyno results posted on an internet forum.

how do you know it was EASY?

How do you know if those RB25's were rebuilt or not?

People don't always say what has happened to their engine due to "internet forum cred" or some shit.

other people just don't want others to know that their EASY 300rwkw making RB25 actually popped.

you quoted URAS yourself saying "I've seen them last for years and some last for months"

so how can you not understand that this exact quote is the same as saying "how long is a piece of string"?

you were a noob (and in many ways we are all still noobs), so don't give out ill advice to other newer noobs.

fair enough man, i can understand where ur comming from, people like ash and URAS's opinions are more creditable then me i guess, but all im saying is that it dosnt mean my opinion dosnt count or is useless.

everyone can sit there and tell me because i havnt done it myself its not possible or wat ever.

but ive yet someone tell me straight up "andru u cant build a reliable 300rwkw rb25 on stock internals"

so ill go with that until proven otherwise.

my answer.......yes u can, but u gotta be keepn the revs to a reasonable minimum. We all know if your engines seeing 7000rpm+ every dya its not gonna be a pretty sight. Regular services, and just plain not abusing the engine and it should be fine.....

again yes wat uve said above is right, i havnt actually seen the results 1st hand, most of my info is 2nd hand. but at least my advice here was better then "how long is a piece of string" and im sure ull all agree to that, and my reputation here dosnt help much either, but rather then wasting space on this thread posting homo crap like that, u can be constructive and post something like i did, it just may promote using that search button more. we all know how threads can get side tracked......like this one. but i hope this is a lesson for future threads.

...so much irrelevant crap. no wonder it's hard for people to find answers (though they should take the time to search if they've only just joined the forum).

I don't know the answer, but the points that other people have alluded to are:

*10k will not get you to 300kw sorry buddy (especially when you're spending some of that money on bling...what is more important)

*you haven't factored a new turbo into your spending and the stocker sure as hell won't get you near 300kw

*your track record makes me for one nervous to have you anywhere near a powerful car (by the way it's a scientific fact that the human brain is still developing 'reasoning' capabailities into the "20's"...make of that what you will)

*you NEED to do some more research and you'll see what is needed for your quest and what is not - and even then, you'll still be learning and changing your mind once you start doing it.

other than that, all i could say would be stuff i've "ascertained" from being on these forums, i've only done minimal mods and don't know what power level i have, but it'd be a fair bit under 200kw.

Good luck though, hope you enjoy the experience of 'working' on your car. I've done all the work on my car (basic stuff like, timing belt, water pump, exhaust, fmic) except the wheel alignment and learning about everything as i go has been AS MUCh fun as actually driving the thing.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong on these points, but: After all that, a turbo capable of 300RWKW on an unopened RB25 is gonna be (comparatively) laggy until what... 4500rpm? And would really hit its stride from ~5-6000rpm and up? Then, to keep the engine from dying in less than 2 months, you've gotta stop at 7k. AWESOME - 2500rpm range of decent power, sounds like a barrel of fun... Not.

I think that's one of the big reasons people rebuild with better balanced parts right? So they can rev it to 8 or 9k without worrying, and be able to spool up a big turbo. If your dead set on 300rwkw (or so) without opening an engine, go buy a GTR or a later Supra TT.

Boys i didnt intend to start an arguement from my thread look..sl33py, GTST and R34NRG and sorry to those others i didnt mention have given me great advise. As for insurance it will be under my name. As for writing off two underpowered fwd's well all i can say is what stupid things young minds can get upto..But have learnt lesson not once but twice. Now all i understand is that i am getting a R34 and like those other two previous cars i have owned this one will mean everything to me because it will come with great responsibility example the first big loan.

With all the opinions about the GFB BOV well threw it out my list. Stock shall do.

Also i will be still applying for the 35g loan and spending it on bodykit, wheels (Not 20" anymore lol), intercooler and something aside for repairs if something f**ks up.

performance mods will start coming once i start getting bored of stock power and then from their i will start modding level by level.

hey mate i got my R33 gtst series 2 1997 model only at the start of december last year. now i been driving since i was 12 bush bashers and all that and used to have alot of mates with alot of high powered cars. Fair enough im a bit of an odity in that i can adjust to any car in an extremely short space of time. but that said i went from driving an N/A s13 sr20 to my R33. the difference is unreal now bare in mind all i have extra on mine is exhaust, pod , front mount and coilovers and 17 advanti racing wheels. now i dunno if u wrote ur old fwds off in the wet or the dry but even a relatively stock line like mine is rather tail happy in the wet so imagine what a 300kw example would be like. as everybody says from the sounds of ur driving history get a stocker get a feel for the car and a respect for the power and engineering that is behind it before u go messing with everything there is nothing worse than having no clue how to handle the power and it ends up u have just paid 35k to kill urself or survive with a disability and shit load of debt. just my 2c.

true man thats why i took somones advise on getting use to stock power then working my self up from the there. oh and also 300kw is not my aim anymore prehaps way later in life. ultimately i will be looking for 260-280kw in future after i get use to the stock power then up the power level by level till i reach 260-280kw even 270kw should be alright.

haha i can so relate to this topic..i so wanted to fully mod up my skyline b4 i bought it ...its jus a r33 gtst..and i'v already changed my mind..my car is all mostly stock..and thats what i love bout it..no cut up fronts to fit massive coolers..no custom orange peel paint jobs..simply pure..this is my first performance car too..and i tell u what..coming from a hatch..it feel way better jus drivin the car in 80's speed roads..i dont see the point of doin up the car too much anymore..i already spent like 2k in insurance (3rd party) and security for it!!...and u'll hav to sell it at some point..and i doubt anyone gets the price they pay for when selling cars..my friend done up everything with his r33...custom paintjob...tein suspensions..custom jun kit..aftermarket turbo..new rims..new ecu..controller..fuel..water pump..cooler..silicon hoses..turboback..what not..and hes selling his car for 13.5??? its a s2 too..

as a buyer i was looking for a stock car and to be honest i would pay more for a clean stock car thats been recenty imported then one thats modded up as hell and gives the hint of the driving record too..u gotta realise that after few years u'll proly want a new car and would hav to sell this one..

if i had 30k i would jus buy a GTR n b super happy with that for a weekened car..and if u r thinking bout the chicks ;)..they dont give a shit whats under the bonnet..they jus wanna get in one!! haha

cool champ thats def the way to go about it. another thing i would recommend is invest in some track time really will let u learn the limit of the car( or yourself whichever comes first). been in a few 34s as well personally i would get a 33 man. i reckon they the most balanced out in aspect of size power styling. but thats just my preference. good luck with it all.

If you've written off 2 FWD cars in less then 2 years you have not learnt any lessons... As said about 20 times already, Buy a stock GTT, drive it, get used to the feel and progressively add more power. Dont go from a 70kw celica to 300kw skyline in one leap, the difference in FWD and RWD handling alone is something you should get used to first.

This is almost certainly going to end in tears if you go ahead with this...

Also this is the result of going from FWD to RWD and driving the same style (stupidly)

I did learn a lesson though, nothing scares you straight like spending 5,000 on a car, losing it, being threatened with $25,000 in fines and damages and going back to getting lifts to work from your mum until you can afford a new car...
