thought bout a gtir?

I was looking for a 4 door.

Leather clad recaros.. twin turbos that hit full boost at 1800rpm, cops dont look twice.. better build quality, and they were a $130,000 car new which can be picked up cheap now...

IMO Driving an S4 is like having a big dick, no one knows you've got it, untill you use it... then not much needs to be explained afterwards...

Big dick's are still quite a bit... 30k for a 2000 model from what I could see.

Go Evo VII!!!

Out of the price range I was looking at.

if i were you, i wouldnt get rid of the skyline. In my opinion skyline is more reliable than the wrx. I use to have one, i loved it for the sound but thats it.

Skyline seems cheaper to mod & to extract power from. This is my 2nd time owning a skyline & will never look back, but thats just me. :D

What model Rex did you own? Did you have any mods done to it & out of the 2 which did you think was quicker from 0-100km?

4 door skyline??

Not really keen on the looks of the 4 door skyline & was sort of after a 4WD.

You seem pretty keen on the wrx, so why not just go for what you want? at the end of the day your the one driving it not us. ive been looking at them too but i cant find one that doesnt have 100 000+kms on the clock!! Im not sure about the whole lag thing and mec problems, but from wht ive seen they are pretty dam quick and have heard they are a top car.

If you want to know their times have you tried lookin on google?

thats about what i picked up mine for... i haggled the dealer down 6k and got a bargain...

1 owner, ex doctor car, full history, immaculate interior.. few stone chips on the front, 130,000kms.. runs perfectly!

engine and boxes on these cars will see 200,000k easy no dramas, only thing that might not make it is the turbos, the K03s have been known to pop but thats just a good reason to chuck on some K04s (rs4 turbos) and go supercar eating...

a 2000 Big Dick stock is quoted to hit 0-100kmh in 5.5-5.7s and 0-400 in like 13s..

thats stock..

chip/exhaust/intake it... and youll be much quicker...

but hey if you want a rex go for it..

i drove an XR6t and it was like driving a boat, massive car, huge interior, not much driver feedback.. great motor though.. reasonably quick.. but just couldnt drive one everyday...

Yeah I've had the same issue with finding any under 100kms, i've looked for times but there is so much conficting times & you don't know if they are based on jap spec models.

The only thing that holds me back is trying to sell my skyline, they go for next to nothing and a S1 with 180k on the clock is prob the least desirable of the lot.

I do love the S4's & to have the speed & luxury that the S4's offer is an awesome package, but unfortunately a hefty mortgage keeps those dreams out of touch. The XR6t does have a good motor but I recon it would be a fuel guzzler and is sort of going away from the quick point to point car that im after.

lol, im saving that quote in my sig, one of the funniest things ive heard all day, cheers

ok, so an xr6t isn't a quick point to point car but a wrx is?

a wrx is quick from point to point if they 2 points are only far enough away that you just dump it in first and then stop before you grab the next gear. they only have good straight line performance figures cause they are AWD, so they get moving while a rwd sits in a cloud of smoke.

i'd say an xr6t. they aren't that heavy on fuel, and they are super comfy, and go pretty darn well, and have an awesome sound.

don't worry about the km's on the wrx's.

my Liberty RS has 323,000kms on it.

still using stock gearbox.

engine was rebuilt about 50,000kms ago but only for peace of mind.

It has usual mods of exhaust, intake, boost and some tuning.

heavy duty full face clutch and lightened flywheel has saved the weakest of all subaru boxes from breaking for over 323000kms.

Just buy one.

you're not even looking to change the stock turbo so you will never have enough power/torque to break the box.

keep away from button clutches and you'll have no worries.

I own both, an r32 with 26 and 4wd, and an '03 wrx.

Totally different cars, totally different feel on the road.

Take one you like the look of for a drive and see wether it meshes with you.. it will or won't.

The rex is the wife's car, she was unsure so I told her just to go and take it for a drive. Pity she couldn't find a cheaper one, but honestly I don't think she tried.

I had a r33gts25 lightly modded. Now have a heavily modded 03 wrx. The wrx is a better car than the r33. Even with light mods the r33 was all over the place in the wet. Mines got around 250awkw and the std 5spd has not missed a beat.

Though I would not consider a rex again and would definitely get a GTR or maybe a F6 typhoon.

Like someone said, dont get a cannon muffler as the drone is not tolerable. With a larger turbo, there is lag until 3500-4000rpm (but after that its very very fast, but safe). The EJs are also not fuel economical.

If you keep it close to stock you should have no problems with it.

3500-4000rpm sounds pretty shiteful, thats prob why I would avoid upsizing the turbo... Out of the R33 & Rex which one handled better in the dry? Of course a AWD is always going to be better in the wet.

GTST-

Have you driven both cars? If so which do you recon would be the most responsive car if both had same light mods like ecu, exhaust, upgraded intercooler & tad more boost.

I know I ask a hell of a lot of questions and ppl say that I should just go test drive one but it would be good to hear from anyone that has lived with both & which car they liked better.

Don't get Handling and grip/traction confused.

they are different.

rex has ALOT of grip/traction. and to a certain degree, it has good handling.

My current Liberty RS is my 2nd.

I sold the first one to buy an R32 GTST. it was the right choice. I liked the feel of the skyline better.

after the first skyline anf a few years, the list went like this..

Galant VR4

S14

Barina (the S14 was stolen without insurance)

R32 GTS4 sedan

Corolla (skylne was sold to help purchase a houes)

and now the Liberty RS again.

if you search the for sale section, you will see an ad "for sale or swap - Liberty RS for skyline"

I get bored easily.

so I never buy expensive cars.

The subaru is an easier car to drive fast due to it's TRACTION advantage over a rwd skyline.

it is more idiot proof.

it is fun for a while when you realise how early you can accelerate out of a corner in comparison to a rwd R33 with same mods.

push to hard in the rex and you get understeer which is easy to fix.

same in a RWD skyline and it takes some skill.

You are obviously bored of your skyline.

sell it and get the rex.

when you get bored of that, sell it and get another car.

there is a buyer for every car.

and you only lose small dollars in buying and selling cars.

so it's worth it for the change.

a stock turbo'd MY00 rex will not feel laggy.

but remember that it is 500cc smaller than the skyline.

so you will not have as much torque at 2500rpm in the rex as you would in the r33.

I'm looking to buy an R33 as the next car.

possibly even a 4 door.

fuel efficient?

My liberty returns between 10-12L per 100kms.

half my driving is 100km/h zone freeway.

reliable?

I've only had to do oil and filter and air filter changes so far.

edit - the only rex I drove extensively was my bosses MY99. completely stock.

and it has less lag then the liberty

Yeah, I get bored very easily as well, the Mrs hates it and cant understand why the need to change cars.... I try & tell her its make up for the area where my balls once were before I handed them to her.
