I have a HKS exhaust manifold i plan on putting on my car soon but i'd like to tidy it up a little before i put it on. I was toying with the idea of coating it but i rang around and got some quotes and it's not a cheap process! So what i'm wondering is will coating it have any worthwhile or noticible benifits on a mainly street driven car?

Speak to pro-coat, I had mine done through them, excellent service, excellent workmanship, at a reasonable price.

Well, i wouldnt go as far to say "much" better. There would be a benefit yeah, but its cost vs gain.

Just get a heat shield made for cheap, and that will keep under bonnet temps down nicely.

As thats the other benefit coating offers, less engine bay heat, but a shield does a pretty good job too.

Personally on a streeter i wouldnt see this potential benefit as economical for the cost in terms of performance gains if it were me as i know coatings arent cheap. You'd get a better bang for your cash via other parts (potentially).

Of course if ya have some cash to burn it'll give you a bit of benefit in the performance/heat areas and also look a bit better tooo for visual, its your money end of the day :D

    • I spent the entire of the long weekend going through my garage and I'm now, after 3.5yrs in this house, able to fit a car in. The garage is quite long and the back half has a high enough ceiling for a 2 post lift but it's going to just take too much space and I don't think I'd be able to get around the car if it was in the air. So, in comes the quick lift. It looks perfect. High enough to do most things, I reckon even getting a gearbox out would be doable.  Does anybody here have one? They're fairly cheap (~$3k) considering...  https://www.dtmtrading.com.au/product/quick-lift-portable-vehicle-hoist-3500-kg-worksafe-approved/ I'm also a bit of a non risk taker so I'd probably still use stands when under!
    • Well now we all see it! I did the same. Then cut it out. Then melted half of it. Then discarded it entirely. So... you're in good company.
    • I just replaced the god awful, sagging, crunchy bonnet insulation. It's something nobody but I see but it's been at me for a while.
    • yeah the south island is stunning, the wifes family is from the west coast down there so we were down there for christmas.   a high 10 would be a stretch but hilarious if it happened. fourth gear is its party gear, i don't have traction to throw more at it at lower speeds. I've found passengers don't think its that fast, i think it's because it has a digital dash so they can't see the needle move so they have no sense of speed
    • You have (externally anyway) a lot of patience!  At the very least your patience has rewarded you financially even if you decided you were over it!! I only just read your first experience of seeing the car, that would have been amazing!  Well documented too! It must be exciting knowing there's only 10 months left until you can get it on a boat and on it's way!!!???
