hi guys

i gave the wrong oil to my mechanic.

The motul website sez motul 300gear oil is for non- LSD diffs and ive got a r32 gts-t

it cost a packet too. those wanks at autobarn, I said to the guy "are you sure?" and he said that "motul Gear Competition is only for the GTR"

im i gunna hafta chage it?????

it should be alright with the Vicious LSD, however if you have a clutch pack type such as a 1.5 or 2 way, you'd need a LSD type oil,

failing that, you can go get an LSD additive to add to your current oil, sould get a small tube of something to squeeze into the diff

To be on the safe side i would change it....

Never take advice from guys from autobahn/repco or any of those kind of shops... If they offer you advice just smile but dont take any of it into consideration. :)

Why didnt you mechanic notice when you gave him the bottle?

You can do ur diff oil your self... isnt too hard. 1 bolt down the bottom of the diff drains your oil, another bolt on the side up the top to fill it up with.

You can pick up a little hand pump to get the oil in there which you can keep for next time you do either gearbox or diff! ... Too easy!

Hope this helps~

THis one seems like a good idea as well...

hey, god i wish my girl was as fast at replying as you guys hahhaha. thanks for the input.

it MAY be ok, i gave the car to the mechanic tonight and i HOPE he hasent started yet.

ill call first thing in the morning FINGERS CROSSED.

will the LSD additive be ok long term, is this a common thing to do???

its quite common, and its perfectally fine to do so, LSD oil is just normal gear oil with an LSD additive already added.

as i said, if its a vicious diff, it wouldnt matter if u used non lsd oil or not...

as i said, if its a vicious diff, it wouldnt matter if u used non lsd oil or not...

its the stock diff so im guessing its a vicious r200 right.

if so its all sweet and the guy at autobarn fluked the right answer (ill never give em credit for anything)

can someone confirm?????

Give the distributer a call, probably the best way of getting the right information. Also autobarn, repco etc. have brochures on the oils, which will give you an accurate listing to what oil you need to use... The guy serving you obviously didn't look it up and that's a big no-no as autobarn is now liable for any damage done to your car if it turned out to be the wrong oil.

    • I don’t really have any ideas how to set the timing on the CAS 😂, sounds like the top, sounds like it maybe misfiring as well as ticking,  got the box sorted 😌, must of been a air bubble on the clutch side
    • Use a 2' length of hose (that's 2 foot, not 2 inches) as a stethoscope to localise the source of the ticking. From cam covers? From exhaust or turbo manifold gasket? From injectors? From lower down in the engine? Etc. Use a timing light to set the timing. Put Redline Lightweight Shockproof in the box. It's not the very best thing for the box, but it will take a box that refuses to engage a gear with other oil, and make it engage a gear. I had to put it in when I installed the R33 box I have in my car. It would not select ANY gear when running. Smurf jizz made it work. That was >10 years ago and I still use it. I'm stuck with it now. Failing that - rebuild the box.
    • Well done Duncan. The fuel tank bulkhead lid is also in great condition (some of mine were stuffed). These are now out of production and good ones like that are becoming hard to come by.
    • Wow that's a steal, you've done well there.
