hey guys, i just had to put up a post to vent my anger at the cops.

i got pulled over tonight in the Knox Carpark. The cops saw me and i watched as they dropped a U'ey and sat on my ass for a couple of minutes, then they flashed their lights at me so i pulled over.

The cop asked for my license and then to pop the hood...standard check i thought. i had to get out to pop the hood, and then another unmarked car pulled up and the cop asked what measures i took when finding out if this car was legal to drive on P's. i told him i spoke to Vicroads and they gave me a list which didnt have GTSts on it and they told me it was ok.

because my car is stock and auto, the cop that pulled me up was unsure what to do and asked the cop in the unmarked car what he should do, then i was promptly booked. i got a massive lecture about power to weight and they showed me the figures in their little book. $105 bucks and no points loss.

the cop told me to either a:)garage the car or b:) sell it and if i was caught again ill go to court and lose my license. i only have exactly 12 months till im off my P's and i watched as all the cops there had grins on their faces.

in the end my mate who had a full license had to drive and i was left with the fine. long story short: DO NOT GO TO KNOX. EVER. they have their own bloody traffic cop unit there. sorry about the long post but i am still fuming and had to vent my anger.

does anyone know any other hotspots? ill add Knox to my list.

i'mma go to knox jus so they can try to dick me... all hail RB20DE the undefectable skyline :(

Nah seriously tho, knox is jus bad news for imports if u gotta go there, get a lift or take ya mum's car.

Being an auto you will have a less quated power output than a manual. If i were you, i would seriously do a little research and see if your car really is illegal for you to drive. Most cops don't know shit about technicalities and would just book you, because most people will not argue the fine.

doesn't matter they dun give a shit

i told the cop there is no way my car would make 187 at the fly

but he gave me his lil book of factory specs and said can't deny whats printed on this piece of paper

u know what

**** the power to weight ratio

**** them all

about a year ago when i was still on my p's and driving the gtst around i got waved into a allready full booze bus and was told to wait for a cop to become free..

a few mins later i was waved through the booze bus and told to drive to the side of the road where they got me out of the car and to open boot/bonnet and let them have a look round..

then the cop gave me a canary for 1: too low, 2: bov and 3 rear tread... then asked me how much power these things put out.. i played dump and said dunno but i dont think its much being a 2.5l and all and he went off reading sum lil black book only to come back and let me go.. i dunno if they do have too much power for a p plater cos i thought i woulda got done for it if they could of done it..

but can you get out of the fine if you say adjust the boost less than stock and weigh the car up sumhow?

A mate recently got done for p2w in a VS SS Commodore.

He paid the fine, but took the matter further, and his money was refunded.

It's worth pursuing.

If you want to drive a "high powered" car on your P's, then you need to be sure of where you stand in regards to p2w.

If VicRoads told you it was fine, I'd be contacting them, and telling them that you received a fine- make sure you tell them that you DID check with them before you went and paid good $$ for the car.

It seems that Knox is a highly policed area, and if all they did you for was p2w, then you're lucky.

If they were really keen on booking you for something, then they would have found something else, regardless.

Take into consideration the fact that there are 'exceptions' to driving a high powered car on your P's.

Example:

VicRoads will grant an exemption if:

• it is the only car owned by your family

• the car is used for business as well as social use and no other non high powered car is owned by your family.

Applications for a high powered vehicle exemption must be made in person at a VicRoads office. Exemptions are for a nominated vehicle and must be carried at all times.

i think its very unfair that we get picked on. the cop was saying that theyre just trying to knock some sense into young drivers who wrap themselves around poles and he went on to tell me about one they did in footscray about a WRX.

its not fair that all P platers who drive imports get a bad name coz some are d***heads when they drive. i was just pissed that the cop was unsure whether to book me or not until another car showed up and pulled out a folder of specs. i might take the matter further. im not sure if this infringment goes on my record but i reckon their specs are bs. my mate argued about official canberra laws on power to weight but the cop said that this law was state law, not federal, so basically its only policed in vic and nowhere else.

they were rubbing their hands together when they pinged me. more money for the bracks government.

for everyone that still doesnt know the laws regarding power to weight do a search on these forums. it gets covered every week.

no coz they go by manufacturere specs, ie. stock specs...
a car can be detuned and made legal for p platers.

but you must have 100% proof of of this.

Your best bet is to get your car on a weigh bridge... Make sure it's got a full tank of gas and all the fluid reservoirs are full.

I'll bet your car is tipping close to 1500kgs when fully laiden.

The power to weight ratio is 125kw/tonne if I remember correctly, and a 1500kg car with 183kw is 122kw/tonne which puts you juuust under the limit!

my thoughts exactly. but i guess it just depends on the cop at the time. i was SO in the wrong place at the wrong time. Friday night no less. ill never do that again.

the cop did spend 5 mins combing over the engine, trying to get me on something, looking for anything shiny, or chromey. sorry mate, nothing but stock :D for the time being at least...
