No, ive just been in the process of making the exhaust legal (cat converter and screemer pipe plumbing). I just got a noise test done today, and even with the silencer in it was still 96db at 75% of peak power rpm. I fudged it though and only held it at about 50% (3500rpm), so hopefully the engineer doesnt think its dodgy.

Ive got the engineer inspection on Thursday, so if i pass ill get a blue slip and off the the rta!

I lost a bit of power with the cat in but it still frys the tyres pretty hard.

which gt35 do you have?

i'm kinda looking at the GT3582R with probably the .82 rear or if someone suggest's better otherwise.

would be going onto a stock(i think) 34 n1 motor. with cams and looking at dry sump.

i would like some response, but also aim for at least 350-400kw @wheel mark.

Ive got the 1.06 rear on mine. If you want response, dont go the larger housing! Thats why i made it with higher than normal compression, so it would still be ok off boost; and it is. Im getting used to it.

I dont understand what you mean by which turbo? Isnt the GT3582R just the gt35 with 0.7 compressor and 0.82 turbine housing?? So does that make mine a GT35106R. Actually, probably not because ive never heard of that turbo and it sounds ridiculous!

Someone educate me.

there are what i can see only two gt35 turbos but lots of options with rear housings. and the -5 -7 options etc etc

I can see your point with the larger turbine housing and higher compression ratio though you may have been able to achieve the anti detonation result by using the 0.82 A/R housing and regulating boost (and turbine inlet pressure) lower in lower engine speed ranges .

GT35R BB turbos . These are a bit of a Garrett hybrid and their largest BB turbo based on the GT25BB center section .

Technically there have only ever been two variants , the one you have (GT3582R) and the HKS spec hybrid GT3240 .

The HKS spec one has the same turbine though its been cropped or ground down to GT32 turbine dimensions . Also its compressor is 54 trim where the ones like yours are 56 trim .

The GT3240 was only ever sold with a bored out HKS T28 flanged GT30 turbine housing in 0.87 A/R .

The GT35xx plain bearing turbos are based on Garretts GT35 diesel spec turbine and large frame GT center section .

A pity the head didn't get its exhaust ports reworked and slightly larger exhaust valves but that's what next times for .

I originally had the car tuned with the 0.82ar turbine housing (with the same comp ratio), and ended up with catastrophic results. Apparently the turbo came on waaaaay too early and boost was uncontrollable. I therefore, changed to the larger turbine housing (after rebuilding the engine). I must admit though, i didnt think there would be as much difference in the boost threshold of the two housings. A bit dissappointing really.

So do you think working the head would be a good way of reducing the boost threshold of the current setup? Im actually looking around for another head to modify while im still using this one. Is modification of exhaust valve diameter (and purchase of new valves) an expensive modification?

Really like the engine bay effort. I'm currently building a 26/30 with a 35/40 .82 rear housing to replace my RB25 in my Sil80.

I run an Autronic SM2. If the boost was coming on too early i can set it at what rpm i want it to come on. You can too under menu M5 using the boost set point. Use the Boost Dynamic Comp to control how aggressive the boost control valve is controlled to try to achieve a set boost point value. A lower value will give you a slower repsonse but more stable boost with less spiking.

The boot offset table will correct the pressure to get s flat line!

So someone telling you that it comes on boost too early is either lying or doesnt know how to use the software....if its the latter, consider going somewhere else?

Yeah, but remember that its not only the EBC that controls the boost curve, there are many other factors that can cause boost control problems.

I just passed the engineers inspection, so ill get rego soon and have the tune finetuned. I think theres a bit of fine tuning to do because its a bit of a dog to drive.

And he doesn't have boost control problem, a 1.06 is producing boost right where it should.

i have a very similar set up with the same turbo, i have both housings and i'm interested in trying them both. it gets tuned in a few days, i'll let you know how it goes.

p.s what boost are you running?

If you are staying T3 flanged, stay .82 !!! The only reason to go any larger is to use a twinscroll. I am doing a twinscroll T4 GT3582R on my RB26 right now

He said he had a boost control problem with the .86 housing. As i have tuned rb26's with autronics with gt35r's without dramas, i would have to assume that there was an external problem to the ecu. And the SM2 boost control software i certainly not the best boost control on the market.

as a fellow 32 gtst repowerer can i ask what is the current compression ratio of this beast?

The compression is 9.0:1

To answer other questions, im running 17 psi at the moment. The boost controller is disconnected atm, and im just using wastegate spring pressure. Ive got a few more k's to do, then they'll turn the boost up to about 22 or something like that.

Thanks Geoff, its certainly something ill look at later. To be honest, i cant see why the 0.82 didnt work well previously, however, i do have faith in my tuner. Theyve tuned some pretty serious cars, and have an in depth knowledge of all things Autronic.

For now ill just drive it and enjoy it. Im sick of having the car on stands!

I finally got the car registered today; no thanks to the RTA.

It passed the engineers inspection, i got the Blue Slip done, went to the RTA to pay my rego (last week), and they said the computer has "randomly" selected your car to undergo another inspection at the RTA at West Gosford. Oh, and you also have the pleasure of paying for it! I was soooo pissed off.

Anyway, that was last week. I had the inspection today and it passed no worries. I was treated like a criminal by the rta inspectors though; they showed me no respect what so ever. It was an awful experience.

The lesson is: DONT TAKE YOUR CAR OUT OF REGO WHILE DOING MODIFICATIONS!!

I did a few hundred k's in it today, and ill have to do something about the exhaust; its way too loud. It drones really badly. Its a 3.75 inch trust TR drag exhaust. Im not sure whether to modify it by putting an offset muffler in it (it only has one rear muffler), or buy a 3 inch kakimoto or something thats quieter.

Any advice people??
