Thanks Geoff, its certainly something ill look at later. To be honest, i cant see why the 0.82 didnt work well previously, however, i do have faith in my tuner. Theyve tuned some pretty serious cars, and have an in depth knowledge of all things Autronic.

For now ill just drive it and enjoy it. Im sick of having the car on stands!

I finally got the car registered today; no thanks to the RTA.

It passed the engineers inspection, i got the Blue Slip done, went to the RTA to pay my rego (last week), and they said the computer has "randomly" selected your car to undergo another inspection at the RTA at West Gosford. Oh, and you also have the pleasure of paying for it! I was soooo pissed off.

Anyway, that was last week. I had the inspection today and it passed no worries. I was treated like a criminal by the rta inspectors though; they showed me no respect what so ever. It was an awful experience.

The lesson is: DONT TAKE YOUR CAR OUT OF REGO WHILE DOING MODIFICATIONS!!

I did a few hundred k's in it today, and ill have to do something about the exhaust; its way too loud. It drones really badly. Its a 3.75 inch trust TR drag exhaust. Im not sure whether to modify it by putting an offset muffler in it (it only has one rear muffler), or buy a 3 inch kakimoto or something thats quieter.

Any advice people??

Shaun.

sell your exhaust and contact Ben at racepace for one.

tuned my car earlier tonight, i used the .82 housing. made 320kw on 20psi.

best thing was the 10 psi at 3000rpm and 20psi at 3500rpm, gained about 1000rpm response over old setup. its awesome to drive!

That sounds heaps better than mine. I get about 3psi at 3000, lol. So how similar is it to mine? What compression, what manifold, what wastegate, etc.

They reckon mine will make about 380kw at 22psi, but who cares, its all wheelspin anyway. Id rather a drivable 320kw than mine at present.

Well done.

Who/where are they Paul? Are you suggesting an off the shelf one, or a custom thing.

I just thought it would be a shame to sell the trust in case i want to drag or something. Also, they dont make them anymore. But i could use the money............

I will stick my neck out here and say that Ben produces the quietest mega flow exhausts on the planet...just give him a call

r32 gtst - rb26

40 thou cp pistons (8.5 comp ratio i think)

jun oil pump

1.2mm oil restrictor and external oil drain

standard head gasket

standard cams

os cam gears (set to 4 and 2 i think)

custom 6boost manifold- duel scroll

garret gt3582r -with duel scroll .82 housing

twin tial 38mm wastegates

wolf ems

i'm going to try the 1.06 housing and play with the cam gears too when i get a chance. hopefully when i get back from this weekends drift australia round.

Yeah, thats similar to mine.

The only thing though is the compression ratio. Mine is 9.0:1 and, i might be stating the obvious, but the higher the comp ratio, the more exhaust gas produced, hence, the harder it pushes the turbine. I might be placing too much emphasis on the comp ratio of mine, im not sure, but i was led to believe that my engine may have been spinning the turbine too hard at lower revs for the 0.82, and this was due to the higher than normal comp ratio. Let me know if you thing im misguided.

Also, i dont really understand the dual scroll thing. Is this a turbine housing thats divided into two sections? Would this result in a significantly different outcome to mine? The other thing is the 6boost manifold. Mine is a GCG china one and, although its the best China one ive seen, i think the 6boost ones are awesome. I only saw one recently and was really impressed. Wish i got one now.

You should be happy with your result. It would be really drivable. Ill get mine there eventually; let us all know how you go with the 1.06.

Shaun.

Duel scroll or twin scroll is where the volute of the turbine housing has a divider or partion down the centre of the housing - its cast into the housing. It essentially divides the housing into two rather than a typical open or single scroll housing. You then need to have a manifold made up which groups certain cylinders together and feeds these into each side of the divided housing. The grouping depends on the firing order of the engine as you want to spread the exhaust pulses alternately on each side of the housing.

The advantage of the twin scroll housing is less turbulence = greater exhaust gas velocity = faster spool = broader power band. Because of the efficiency of the housings you can also step up the a/r ratio for better overall gas flow without a loss of spool. The disadvantages are cost and packaging of twin wastegates for a true twin scroll setup.

Toyota used a twin scroll internally gated turbo on their old CT26 turbos which were used in the Grp A 4wd Celica's (from memory).

So you're telling me a non-crossflow Holden 202 red motor has better gas flow than say a 6 litre LS2 or SR20......really?

Just search the web and you'll find more infos on twinscroll, there are better places to invest the money on a straight six engine then on an twinscroll setup. :whistling:

Love the way you sidestep your "gas flow theory" and then try to talk around it by mentioning the cost of the exercise. Sure I understand these setups are not for the budget concious uni student but it does work.

Perhaps if you did some searching of your own will find the Supra boys are reducing there spool times by 1000 rpm on the bigger turbos with twin scroll stuff on their 2JZ's......(p.s. there straight sixes).

did the ef twin thermo fans fit ok

They didnt fit too bad, but required a bit of cutting the original Ford shroud. I had to turn them upside down (in order to fit) and reverse the direction of rotation because i placed them in front of the radiator, instead of behind it. Obviously the air conditioning is gone. I also spent alot of time sealing the fan shroud against the radiator. Actually, thinking back, it was a pretty big job but they work better than anything else i reckon.

Shaun.

In regards to the loud exhaust, everyone who knows anything has told me that you cant buy an 'off the shelf' exhaust that wont restrict anything over 250kw. Therefore, im getting mufflers custom made to suit. This is what many people have advised me to do.

Im sick of setting off car alarms!

Any updates Shaun? Or did I miss a new thread?

Similiar position for my 26

Rebuilt bottom end, sump extension, fuel & management etc etc..

-bored 20 thou over

-6 boost manifold

-tidied head with exhaust side ported

-standard cams with A/M gears

Just not sure which ar to go for .82 or 1.06?

Leaning towards 1.06, since Im ditching my 2860-7 set-up to go single and want some bulk power and tune-ability in the future

I'd not completely rule out considering going a GT4088R or something of that sort if you're looking at 1.06a/r GT35Rs, the spool doesn't seem that wildly different - and you get the whole twin scroll thing going on as well as a fancy big whistley turbo :P I know I'd prefer a GT40R, though I like big turbos and I cannot lie.

Going .82 now ... Lag
