Thanks for the advise mate,

as I mentioned, people can make the setup themselves, I have posted up some extensive tutorials   (one I think is pending being posted) so you are welcome to give it a shot. However, if people want it done as it looks in the picture, we simply are offering the service, but it has to be worth our while.

If people were prepared to get the materials themselves and get us to help i'm sure we could work something out.

Regards,

Adam

P.s thanks for the kind words.

hey bud, well, it doesn't matter, you can make your own hole... my car had no holes at all when I first got it because it was non-turbo... I then had to get one for the fmic piping to go through and I made another for this cold air intake..

I am also aware of the legalities of holes in engine bays... but most of us do it....1 advantage I would have said though, is that with the heatsheild being tinted, you can't see anything more then a pod in there :whistling:

sorry bud, no. There are no turbos included in this setup :)

just out of curiosity... where did you get the idea that a turbo was involved with a cai and heatsheild?

Mainly because of what the bloke under this said..

Adam,

I think the general feedback so far suggests that $500 for a cold air intake and plastic heatsheild might just a BIT too expensive..

Best of luck though..looks good.

Rb25 turbos go for <$250

And personally I think its really cool what you made, but theres about 450 reasons why I wouldn't spend me money on one!

I do appreciate the constructive criticism... the truth is that its not just me getting a jigsaw and cutting the heatsheild and giving it you ... its me and my mate, getting your car, making up a proper template to suit your car, getting all the materials and then all the rest like cutting to the template and making the holes, putting the edging on...

I thougt that the price probably was a lil high... if you guys just wanted a simple standard template I could understand... and it would be cheaper.. but if you want it to suit your car it would be more costly...

otherwise it is almost not worth our while for the time we spend making sure it fits well!

Thanks for the kinds words though :)

also.. don't forget.. if you guys want a go at doing this setup yourself... check out the tutorial section.. I have made two massive threads on how to make this exact setup

Regards,

Adam

P.s.... 250 for a 33 turbo? pssh... will it run for more then 5 minutes without chunks coming out the back of your car ?:D

HAHAHAAH this is one funny thread. So you do realise cutting and chopping holes in peoples car to fit your "high performance super dooper cold air kit" makes them un-roadworthy? Hey, i'm sure you use quality products like Narva cable ties and Repco funnels.

are you upset because you couldn't make one??

He did say is aware of the legalities. If people still want to do it, their choice.

Your the one saying Super Dooper an sh!t, he never made a false sales pitch in order to make a quick buck on some dodgy mass produced item.. Sure maybe this is not factory quality but its pretty firkin good, especially for home made.

A guy tries to offer knowledge and service and gets slammed by tools....

Good work WYTSKY

Thanks guys, really makes me feel better. I was upset that people were laughing at what I had done. My car has been around to quite a few workshops and they all thought it was top work, one even asked me to make one up for their drifter car, so I didnt understand why people were bagging me on here.

I can understand that the prices are high, but I sort of did that for a few reasons.

-being a student and a network admin and running my own comp business is pretty full on, so its hard to find time to build things

-I didnt really want people to buy a whole setup, thats why it is a little pricey, but for example, if you can do the cai and everything else, but needed someone to just make the heatsheild, thats what I wanted to help for. I wanted people to try for themselves, if they get stuck, im always here.

I was trying to get this thread removed because of comments made like bn_sil80, but now i'll keep it up :banana:

Thanks again for the kind words, they can make a massive difference.

Please pm me if you guys need any advice/ideas for your setups

Adam

P.s one final thing to note, I am not saying my setup is legal, however, since posting this thread up I have been picked up more times then I can count, not a single cop has defected my air intake setup or any other part of the car for that matter. One guy said to me it was really sterdy and thought it was a better setup then standard.

I dont mean to be rude

Everyone appreciates you writing up a DIY

but charging $500 for a CAI is a bit bananas

Everyone is trying to make money some how, but a CAI can be made very easily by your self

I dont really see it as a mod, its just a piece of plastic or whatever

i think your going to get flamed some more

Just my 2c

Sorry to burst your bubble... BUT:

* Intake pipe:

- Hole - either already there or drill one = free

- 90 degree bend - provided you have a FMIC not using the original hole, you will have a standard one lying around = free

- Piece of pipe to put in bend - Bunnings? PVC Tube from Plastic store? = $10 max?

- 2 x 3" hose clamps = $10?

* Pod bracket:

- completely unecessary with the heat shield holding the AFM in place

- or if you must, and you have an Apexi kit, it comes with the bracket

- or if you don't, piece of aluminum and bend, drill two holes and mount = $5 for off cut of aluminum

* Heat Shield:

- sheet metal = $50 max for more than enough to make the shield

- rivets / bolts = $5

I don't believe we've even hit the $80 mark yet...
