What The R35 Is Doing To R34 Prices

Recommended Posts

Sent an email to Powerplay a few months ago as I'll be looking to purchase one around the end of this year.

I asked them if they think R34 GT-R prices are going to drop any further and they replied with this:

Hi Alan,

It is impossible to predict what will happen with R34 GTR prices in the future, at this stage the prices for good condition, low kilometre cars are remaining firm.

The release of the R35 GTR will definately have an impact on R34 GTR prices & I will be closely monitoring the market over the next 3 months. I think the prices could go either way, up or down. If the R35 GTR sells extremely well there will be a lot more R34 GTR's available as owners upgrade to the new model. But, this could push the prices of the R34 GTR up as overseas markets compete with each other. Also, there is the local Japanese market to consider, R32/33 GTR owners upgrading to the R34 GTR, this will also push prices up.

As more GTR's come on the market you would expect the prices to drop but demand from overseas buyers competing with the local Japanese market could keep the prices at their current level or higher.

Being the last of the RB Series, the R34 GTR could very well become an icon like the R32 GTR where a very good condition R32 GTR can still cost up to 4 million yen. Only time will tell I suppose.

Kind regards

Jo-Ann

Seriously I dont care, Cars will always depreciate thats expected.

The R34 is the last of the Japanese designed Sports car, and will always hold the wow factor for me as its just mean, the new GTR is special but its supposedly not a SKYLINE, its also half euro in design, which loses its wow factor a little for me.

Also take note the R35 is avaliable in Japan now and pre orders have prob already been fixed up, so every man with a R34 is selling his pride and joy to outrun anything on the road, the flood of the R34 GTR and R33 and R32 is most likely reducing prices too.

And btw... 17000 made, seriously Australia is huge but we arnt extactly going to import every single GTR its still a Import therefore its rare.

i dont see how the prices for these cars will ever start to rise again,

like anything once the newer model comes out they loose there appeal, although that is only to new car purchases.

then it comes down to what someone will pay for it, there will always be the ppl who think they can make money off cars.

no they haven't there is still a pretty sizable waiting list for R35 GTRs in japan. if you walk into a nissan dealership today to order one you will be waiting a few months.

Yep. August is the current earliest delivery window even at the biggest dealerships in Tokyo. Demand is far outweighing production.

Sewid is correct, the wait time at the month is approximately 5 months.

I dont get it, are some of you guys actually saying that, now that they can possibly afford an R34 GTR, they are not sure they want one because, now everybody can afford it and they dont have that wow factor of rarity. I'm confused. You dont want something once it becomes attainable.

More than the reason of being attainable is the human nature of always wanting something better. It wont be the 'best' GTR anymore. You will even see it with the R35 where people will wait for the vspec I or II, even though they will never exploit the power from the std R35.

Go on the holden forums, and you can see how the 6L is now not enough/ good enough and they want the 6.2L or 7L HSV.

People will definitely be buying up the R34 in Oz. Even in 2015 people will be after an '02 Nur GTR just because it's awesome.

How many old blokes still drive around their crumbling Monaros today? Why not buy the new one?

Not everyone wants the latest model.

34 is still the best. raw, fast, fat and feels like a race car to drive... it's about the experience, not the age... just like a woman....

Totally agree with Aaron. For those who have actually previously owned or currently own a 34 GT-R, I am very sure that they will ALL agree that there are few cars in the world that can match the power, the look and the aggression that 34 brought to the Skyline series and to the entire world car scene...
