1 MAR 08

Guys,

I just started the car the other day and let it warm for about a min then drove out of the drive way and then gunned it (about 4000 revs) and then shifted into second then a Massive bang almost like a back fire and then the car was not accelrating. I have had this problem b4 when the Intercooler piping from the passenger side b4 it mounts the Intercooler blows of due to poor clamping of the piping. There was alot of black smoke blowing out of the exhaust from what bystanders had told me and i feared that maybe a turbo had blown but I managed to put the piping on just enough to crawl home with it idling and smoke coming from exhaust.

I took of the front bar and re connected the piping up to the intercooler again and then started it again. At this stage the car was idiling very up and down almost like the intercooler was blown of again. There is no more smoke blowing out of the exhaust but it is very loud and vibrating now, compared to when it was smooth idling.

UPDATE 2 MAR 08

Right Changed Spark plugs and now is idling better then b4 this happened but now when i rev the car there is water or something spraying out the exhaust with black smoke. Also checked the blow of valves and there was white milky liquid in the lines and in the BOV itself.

SHOULD I STILL DRIVE IT OR START IT UP AS IT MAY CAUSE MORE PROBLEMS???

Has the turbo Blown??

Any help would be very very helpful!!!!

I Hope the milky liquid your talking about doesnt look like chocolate milk, this is when oil and water mix which shouldn't happen.. does it seem it has never idled properly after the "bang" even after fitting new plugs?

Well after the intercooler piping blew of yesterday and refitted it, it idled real bad and stuttery so today put the new plugs in and it idles pretty sweet, but when i give it a stab when its in neutral, smoke comes out the exhaust with some kind of liquid all over the ground. It doesnt seem to be white smoke but i could be wrong. There is no smoke when it idles though.

The oil filler cap seems to be fine. I took the rocker covers of there today for a look and it looked fine! ( a Small Nick in one of the Cam Shaft lifters though!). The Car has done 114 000 Klms and is stock as the come except for the pods! It has rapidily declined in Aceleration to when i first went for a test drive though! Feels like the turbos aren't even doing there jobs anymore! But i always here them blowing of air when i let the foot of the accelrator so who knows what the go is!!

But this watery stuff out of the exhaust and white milky watery substance in the BOV's is worrying me!!!

Hard to tell here if its a head gasket or Turbos gone....Engine oil look normal ? I am guessing Turbos...How does the temp guage run....Same as before ?..one of your turbos might be totally stuffed I am thinking

Yeah the engine oil seems to be fine at this stage! Yeah temp gauge still runs the same but am afraid to take it for a drive to do further damage to find out!

Sounds like a headgasket to me. Maybe a coolant line in the turbo(s), but I don't see how it would mix THEN make it through the motor. How does the oil on the dipstick look? Any oily film in the coolant (actually in the radiator, not the overflow)?

well i havent really checked the coolant but i did open it a little and still looked that green colour! With the coolant lines to the turbo, can they actually escape through the exhaust turbine?? i thought they ran through the turbo like it does an engine block????

It was just Pooled in the Bottom of the BOV's and it was just spurting out the exhaust! Seems to be no Spills on the ground thus far. Its been sitting 24hrs.

    • I suppose that's true. Barring almost any situation, I'll never sell so what the market does is kind of irrelevant to me. It's possible I'd make most of my money back. That spreadsheet I mentioned? Maybe I could make back more than what the car's total costs thus far are, but the parts and all that is possibly a different story... Thanks for reading. It was certainly a good moment and just makes the ties to the car that much stronger. It's exciting that the option will be there to bring it over, however I have some plans with a shop that may end up keeping the car there longer, not sure. Coupled with the fact I want to move there and haven't solidified any path yet. So in a way, it feels like I'm in a limbo state that is uncertain; time will tell.
    • No worries, everything worked out in the end. I just wanted to make the point that it doesn't matter where it comes from (I.E Australia), it can be broken or improperly built. I would still purchase from these companies in the future. B2R - Not certain how that finished, this was on a car I wired a few things and street tuned. I know the owner ended up shipping the motor back to Australia for investigation. Hopefully some of it is covered under warranty.  Turbosmart - I always pressure test everything that goes on my car. It's a habit from my career in oil and gas. I run two 40mm's and both had major leaks from the actuator to exhaust portion through the shaft. I returned both, they shipped me back two and one was leaking and the other had a 38mm top (40mm gate with 38mm actuator cap, no idea how that happens). Eventually after a lot of back and forth I found myself with two non-leaking gates. I believe this happens a lot more then people would like to believe but you would never know if you don't pressure test them prior to installation. Crank Motorsport - Issued a full refund and let me keep the seat rails. I turned them into scrap metal for other projects. GKTech - Shipped me out a replacement and asked that I modify it as per my idea and that they would do the same for a future revision. ATP - Can just needed a large shim to bolt up properly.  Haltech - They started an actual proper Beta channel for firmware's a few months back and stopped using the general public for testing. I'm now much happier.  Speedtek - f**k Speedtek. I would love to watch them burn.
    • I've got a Turbosmart wastegate, ATP catch can, many GK Tech parts and Haltech everything. Everything's been perfect, sorry to hear your experience wasn't the same
    • The only high-power RB I've personally seen go pop after running for all of an hour on a dyno was built by B2R, while being remotely tuned by B2R. The only wastegates I've ever had leak like a sieve, return, still leak, return and get shipped back the wrong ones were from Turbosmart. The only final drive that I've ever purchased that were unusable, twice... were from Speedtek. The only seat mounts that I've ever purchased that placed the seats in the door frame were from Crank Motorsport. The only poorly designed parts that I had the manufacturer confirm should have been designed as per what I mentioned were from GKTech. The only ECU I've had firmware updates consistently break things are Haltech. The only catch can I've purchased that didn't fit in its advertised spot was from ATP. So forth and so on... Moral of the story, doesn't matter where it's from. Do your research beforehand and stick with products and companies you've trusted in the past.    @joshuaho96 If you want it done right, do it yourself.
