Unfortunatley for you, It simply isnt fact. It's an opinion, and you're entitled to it, and I also totally agree with you, but it's his car, his wheels, his taste, his cash... see where Im going with this? :D

Im wondering if the ride height/offset/tint can be changed, it make make them look a bit nicer.

Back to the original topic, those full faced rims look very unatural on a skyline and don't suit it what so ever, completely ruin the lines of the 33. But that's my opinon, like most of the other opinions on here, however you asked for opinions so there you go.

Back to the drug dealer/autosalon/ignition topic lol. Obviously this is only true for a small percentage of cars, however i do know for a fact that one of the igniton cars featured a while ago now, (100K+ car) owned by a very young person was infact built with drug money :D so yeah, it sometimes is true. (I really hate drugs and drug dealers, bloody pathetic people).

Fixed. and i agree, BUT (theres always a but), a nice big bodykit, slammed on its ass, painted a nice colour, black tint, and it will be a show car.

But he did ask for everyones opinion so point made.

The whole jap wheels jap car theory is just like society. No one likes emos but they are still out there. Theres always gonna be that small percentage that operate outside the "norm".

I would definately like to follow the progress of the car over time however, as Drift pig said, you build the car around the wheels!

Its the different ideas that make the modified world move forward. If everyone copied everyone else, we would get so bored and give it up. There is no "only" rim for a skyline. Everyone has different tastes, and that is why I personally believe that everyone should modify their car to be different to everyone elses. Isnt that why we modify cars in the first place?

My silk roads are some of the best coilovers to come out of japan (even though they were probably made in taiwan or some shit), they dampner adj. ACUUALLY works, and is a simple 8 point, not a fully sick 36 billionty way. You can seriously feel the difference between point 4 and point 8.... Ive had Tein, JIC, HKS, and custom made, and these by fare are the best.

The ride height was also a by-product of changing to a S13 setup. A S13 coilover at full extension ie. wound to max height will actually drop a 31 30 - 40 mm..... My Front coilovers are only down about half way, and are fully captive even at full extension, and my rears are a little lower. The kit also makes the car seem lower than what It actually is too.

I dont have a massive lack of traction, the thing actually sticks like shit to a blanket. It was built as a circuit car, then modded to suit drift (alignment changes and spring dampner settings).

I run 225/45 R18's on my 10's, so enough tyre getting down. Id love to go wider when I fit my TD06 in the next few weeks, but I simply dont have the room underneath those guard lips.

All of this being said, the 31 is still a largely untested car, and I dont think Ive realised it's full potential.

Yet the one vital thing, which no matter how good the car is, will make it or break it - The Driver. :ninja:

And as a side note, I run 205/50 R15's on my KE70 LOL..... Be even better when I change to my 15 x 8 -4 wheels. But with a 4K 1300cc powerhouse, under the bonnet, I aint qualifying for anything LOL.

It's nice not to have a screaming match like on NS.com about suspension for once.

And Liquid Ice, I had another look at those pics, I really like those wheels. You'd be one of the only ones to pull of 20's in my eyes.

And look how quick this shit is gonna catch on.... the japs are sticking 19's and 20's on Z33's/V35's/R35's all over japan, soon enough they'll be everywhere.

haha yeh, ive been thinking bout getting a R31 as a track car for a while now, i love the look of them, unfortunately everyone is catching onto how good they are for their $$ and they are everywhere, the amount of R31's at the last praccy was insane.

the only thing id say about adjustable suspension, is that you may feel the difference in dampening when you adjust it, but u dont know how good that dampening is, as in it may feel harder, but u dont know how good the dampening curve is. from what ive read from suspension specialist and racing engineers theres only really a very few amount of shocks where the adjustment is actually worthwhile, almost all adjustable dampers have crosstalk, the different curves arnt right etc

now, i dont want to compare your coilovers to cheaper coilovers, i just want to use them to demonstrate my point, there was a shock dyno a while back of one of the cheaper adjustable dampers, what came out was that the adjusters definately made a difference, but all of the damper curves except for one (the hardest setting) were all progressive curve, heres the shock dyno:

6buy0s0.jpg

now with a progressive curve, it basically means relative to a linear curve, the low velocity movement has lower force, and the higher velocity has higher force, basically this means hard over small bumps and changes which trigger high velocity movement, and with lower velocity movements, such as going around a corner it is soft. the opposite of what you want basically.

you can see at the top there is a proper digressive curve which is what a proper damper curve should look like, so basically there is only one setting which you could use for optimum performance, so your basically if you were after performance there is only one adjustment u can use, which puts you back to basically a non-adjustable damper, and even that digressive curve isnt very good. so your better off spending the same cash on something like a bilstein which uses a simplistic design which doesnt bother with adjustment, it just provides a good damper curve. if your after something you can play around with, dampers like koni are probably the minimum you want to get, or if ur really keen to spend some $$ go with something like a penske, adjustment is great, but ull be paying big $$.

so yeh, u may be able to notice a change in damper when you adjust it, but it doesnt necessarily mean its doing its job properly, really need to run it on a shock dyno to see how good the adjustment is.

Too many big words.

It does good skids. :laughing-smiley-014: :laughing-smiley-014: :laughing-smiley-014:

Had a koni adj. setup in my Turbo S3 RX7, and to be perfectly honest, I wasnt happy with them at all. Went to adj KYB AGX (later converted to coilover), and the difference was huge. I dont know why, Both sets of struts were purchased brand new, and used the same springs (Custom Aurora). Seemed the KYB's would respond a lot more to changes, and provided a lot more tunability and setup.

Im not going to put them on a shock dyno, cause simply I dont give a shit LOL I know they perform better, are built better, and will last longer and do more of what I ask them than the cheap chinese crap. And to the SOTP (Seat of the pants ) dyno, they feel a bollocksload better than anything Ive ever used before.

Now R34TRK, get some full length shots up mate. I want to see what can be done. :ninja:

Hey R31 drift pig, post up some pics of your ke70 with the 15x8's man. I'm in the process of getting some wheels from yahooauctions, but can't find anything with a decent offset in the 8" wide category so I'm going for 7.5's with something around the -5 to -10mm offset. Ordered some from upgarage, but they were sold earlier that day. :ninja:

But yeah, post up some pics, I was originally going for 8" 0 offset so wouldn't be too bad to see something around that.

What have you got up front? I'm thinking something like 7" 0 offset up front. Should be a nice fit with the standard guards rolled.

No one likes emos but they are still out there. Theres always gonna be that small percentage that operate outside the "norm".

I like how emos "non-conform" by wearing the same type of clothes and listen to the same type of music and cut themselves the same pissweak way... whingeing sods, kick 'em out of their parent's houses and give 'em something to REALLY whinge about.

Back on topic, "dinnerplates" definitely seem to be an acquired taste

I would, but I have 15 x 6.5 +10 BBS Meshies on there atm. I bought performance chllengers, 15 x 8 -4 all round In platnum silver, Right here in SA, for under $1K brand new (well, still have some to pay yet). Reckon It's gonna be too low offset in the front but, forgot to compensate for my corona lower control arms. You're right though, they'll go on with a roll and slight flare on the front, and a bit of a heavier pull on the rears. Using a 195/50 R15 on them as well, getting a tiny bit o' stretch....

picture111fg9fc7.jpg

Ill shoot you a pic or 3 when I actually get around to doing it. The 31 has been taking whatever little spare time I have atm. And as you can see by the photo's, offsets and guards are nigh on perfection.

what brand is it mate? look like "watanabe" can u still get them brand new this day?

by the way, love the rim! could go wider if u could

Edited by subie

Yep. Can still get them now. and they go up to 16 x 10 - 27, but they're going on my daily/street car, so I had to be somewhat conservative in what I fitted.

If I want wide wheels, Ill go out to the shed and look at the 31 LOL. 18 x 9 -25 and 18 x 10 +5. :)

Seriously, those rims would have to be the WORST possible rims you could ever buy, utterly shocking!! Couldn't buy a worse rim. But hey, thats just my opinion, which you asked for. As long as you like them thats all that matters. After all, we need someone to laugh at and brighten our day!!

yeh im going to get a kit real soon followed with an exhaust

Ohhhh, you should get a Veilside kit! Will compliment those wheels nicely!! :)

Those rims are the best/nicest oldschool rims u could buy these day..

and Veilside kit is the WORSt and UGLIEST kit on the market!!!

Haha, sorry mate, i think you're a little confused. When i said those rims were the worst possible rims, i was talking about the rims the topic starter had posted, those Vault Crystals or whatever they are.

The rims that R31 Drift Pig posted are tough as f**k, totally awesome!!

Oh, i was being sarcastic about the Veilside kit. You know, Veilside would suit the Vault Crystals? :)

Edited by ~Hypnotik~

bollocks yeah! Gonna look great on the lil' white corolla. Be even better when I drop a SR20DE into it LOL.

But back on topic, even though this goes against everything I believe in, Im going to give these wheels a chance. Think of it as an experiment.

20% limo mirror tint all round, slammed, POSSIBLY a MILD kit, remove the wing, extractors and tough sounding straight pipes, packed full of High end audio, Recaro tomcats, we may be able to do something yet. Think of it as more"pimp" than "race".... :)
