smaller tyres are good initial but depending on the power, i found i ate up my set of 16 on the rear which were running 225 in only a few laps.

Although i am basing my opinions around my car which has around 300-350hp. So with that thinking if you are only running 250hp then 215 or 225 should be a better starting point.

I think grip plays a very important roll in drifting thats why i went for a good tyre up front. When i was running my worn G3 on the front, understeer was shocking, which i can say was also due to my poor drifting skills as i would try to get the car to do things which would cause understeer but also the fronts wouldn't hold the line

and a question for gray, what are your through about increase track, as one talking to more drifter said increase in track is a good thing

yeah, 185rwkw were frying worn 205's @ 30% tread. they only lasted a few laps out. i was munjying the whole straight at eastern creek where DA starts their runs for the EC round.

it was when i steped back up to brand new 225's that i had the issues. ;). ive driven worn 225's before and they were just fine.

kidding?

Ill be Hopefully making in excess of 250 RWKW;s when I fit and tune my TD06, and Im running 225/45 R18's on the back of the 31. On a 10 inch rim. The car has tonnes of grip as is with 200......

I dont seem to have any problems.

the D! drivers drift with over 500 - 600hp (Sprinters are obviously exempt LOL) and they only run 245/45 - 265/45 tyres.....

yes but they are also running some hardcore tyres like RE-01R for example which is the top on the line potenza street tyre.

nearly all the PRO d1 drivers run 265.

the reason to run larger tyres as it makes it easier to drift at higher speeds. i wouldn't like to be entering a turn at 180km/hr with only 225 on the rear.

I think tyre choice (Size and type) plays an important part in drifting and its a common thing to be over looked i think

I cant believe you guys are drifting with that much power on that narrow of a tyre?

235 is a good size for around 300-350hp. there is always a pay off with increasing the size of tyre. sometimes its better to go for a softer compound then to increase the size.

I guess it just depends what works for the person. i find 235 give enough grip for me to drift at top end of 3rd gear but if i was to try 4th gear drifting i would like to run a softer compound before looking to go to a 255.

Also depends what level you are at, as one of the top perth drivers found that when they went into DA event that they could not keep up with the speeds due to their tyre size and had to go from a 235 to a 255 to achieved the speeds they wanted

Yeah true. I run Pontenza RE050A's which are a step down from the RE-01R's.... Id run wider, but simply cant fit them under the guards.

Ill also be running Toyo RA-1 semi comps under the front, but Im worried about more pronounced understeer.

We'll see how shady 225's are. If I have to go wider, Ill go wider somehow.

I have found (as someone with only a few drift days under the belt) that a medium width rim like a 9 inch with 235's (that are second hand) works well on both supplying a tyre that the r33 can spin easily enough in third but being grippy enough that i can grip the car up when it is needed.

I watch some of the other worked SR's out there using stock CA rims and cringe at the thought of trying to pull up to avoid an accident. Those guys make a lot of smoke but look out of control.

nearly all the PRO d1 drivers run 400-700ps as well.

here in DA a lot run 225-255 and have no issues with grip.

personally i run between 215-235, depends what i can get my hands on, i would worry more about what tyre u use rather than the size, the type of tyre, brand, model etc will make a lot of difference than an extra 10mm of tread. also different tyres delaminate a lot easier than other tyres, even really good sports tyres are sometimes known for delaminating quickly.

how do u find 050's? i get them in truckloads, but due to being potenzas im reluctant on sliding on them these days, i was told potenzas were shocking when it came to delaminating, thought they might not be too bad, but after several pairs of potenzas (mainly 050's) im jumping on the bandwagon as well. i still run potenzas on the rear, but only cheapies and freebies i can get my hands on.

oh and i have run RE070's on the front, which are basically semi slicks, i actually found it great, gotta keep the heat in them but they reduced a lot of understeer. ive run tyres such a pirelli pzero's which are meant to be top of the line pirellis, and they understeered pretty badly, i used continentals a lot with my first few practice days and they seemed fine, but the 070's were definitely the best.

050's do delam quickly. Im changing to Sumitomo HTZR - 2's asap, because the adelaide tyrepower team get hookups with them.

Im only using the RA-1's because I bought them for a previous car LOL.

I stillw ant to use a semi up front, but will wait to see if I have any issues, and if so, see if they can be corrected by other ways first.

yeh ive heard good and bad things about running semis up front, some say it gives you too much grip and unbalances the car. maybe its because ive had understeer issues in the past that its working well, im currently running sway bars set on soft on front, hard on rear, and semis on the front and only really now just happy with the balance. i also have low caster, only around 6, i ditched the whiteline caster bushes as they didnt give me enough caster (around 5ish), then i realised they were slipping around, so in the end they were probably giving me around 4. when i chuck some cheapy adjustable caster rods on i could still only get 6, which is still short of what i was aiming for, but the difference in that alone was massive, high speed transitions between corner 1 and 2 at mallala at around 90k's the steering was so much nicer and easy to manage and control the "catch" on the transition.

ive just had the rad support refitted and fixed after an incident, so hopefully this might help a touch with caster.

Yeah, Im keen as to run semi's, as R31's have pretty bad understeer issues as it. I dont have adj. swaybars, just the whiteline upgrade bars.

Only problem is, semi-comps are effing expensive in 18 inch LOL.

Havent had the car aligned since I put all the new sus in, But aiming to run about 5 deg or so, Dont need much more in a 31.

haha yeh, i pick mine up 2nd hand, thats why i love 17's. only issue is that when u start talking about racing compound they dont heat cycle as well as street tyres, so when u get 2d hand semis and they have been heat cycled over and over before u get them, the compound can be raped and no where near as good as new. but eh, better than playing $500+ea :)

Ok, i'll admit i had a hidden agenda to keep this thread going, to get some exposure to my situation with Sydneykid and to guilt him into giving me my refund that it nearly 3 months overdue.

I didn't want to start a thread and have to 'name n' shame' him, but i'm all out of ideas at the moment, and to be honest i dont think i'm ever going to see that money again.

Ill be buying a new pair for the front, car is not street rego'd (well, it is, but I probably wont be driving it) and using performance tyres for the rear.

Im actually considering selling my 18's, and switching to a 17. Would like to go to 5 stud and R33 gtr wheels, but they're only 9" wide, so what Im after for the fronts. And Id need 55 mm bolt on's to get them to sit where my 18's do LOL.

Might have to get stuck into the Yahoo auctions and see what I can come up with.

yeh ive just got my hands on another set of GTR rims, awesome rims, perfect size and offset for track rims, just cant be too fussed about wheel fitment haha. im probs gonna chuck my 25mm spacers on the back, but for grip ill just ditch the spacers.

if u want some ive got those up for sale, powdercoated white.

A quick explanation, I haven't received your refund back from the supplier yet, so I don't have it to send to you. The Group Buy is a no profit deal, I only do it to give SAU guys the best products at the best prices. So it is unreasonable to expect me to personally repay you. We have asked the suplier for it several times and, as you are no doubt aware, there are issues with the reasons for the return. As with any supplier it is very difficult to get refunds for returns of specially ordered items. I am negotiating on your behalf and I expect a resolution soon.

Cheers

Gary
