Hi Roy13, in my terminology there are 4 descriptions of lambda sensors;

narrow band

wide band

slow reacting

fast reacting

The standard lambda sensor found on production engines are what I call slow and narrow (they cost around $100). The ones we use on the dyno for tuning are what I call fast and wide (they cost around $2,000). There are a number around that are what I would call slow and wide (they're the ones that cost around $500).

The meters that read these sensors come in a variety of types with the main differences being display type and memory capacity.

Knowing this it is easy to see that tuning using a slow and wide sensor and an instantaneous display with nil or limited memory is almost impossible.

Hope that makes sense.
