I've been looking for ages.

Ditched XBox which was top of my list, because of the HD-DVD dying.

Looked for a decent priced PS3...........

As of yesterday, BigW have em for $638...and i have a W dicount of 5% making it $606.10

Schweeeeet ;)

So if u know anyone with the card....do that.

Works for Xbox too..i think they are $538 so you can figure that one out yourself.

Forza Motorsport = Win.

That alone is enough for me to get a 360 over PS3 (not involving my hate for Sony.)

BUMP...

and yes Forza is possibly the only reason why im leaning towards the XBOX...

Good stuff Dean, the extra media capabilities of the Xbox (even the original, aswell as 360) are also another big benefit to getting them, especially if you go the modded route. It turns into basically a gaming home theatre PC, with Wireless controls.

Can't go wrong - and Forza shits on any of the GT series games, and not expecting much from GT5 either, except enhanced visuals.

ahhk, can u just explain what u mean by extra media capabilities??

I just want to know the advantages/disadvantages of each console!

Also which console would have more car simulator/drift games???

Yeah no probs...

Basically, it all started with the original Xbox, you could get it modded with a chip that has features, such as basically a ported Windows Media Player, that can play pretty much any and every video file/codec out there. You could change the HDD and put in your own massive f**ker from a PC and just load it full of music/movies/random clips, eBooks if you wanted to... ANYthing. Not just that, you could then also create images of any games you owned (or didn't...) place them on the HDD and play all your games without the need for ANY disks, which benefits you numerous ways. Save your precious originals from getting scratched, much faster loading times, and the rest!

You can very easily also switch the network port it has, into a Wireless device, and then just transfer stuff wirelessly from your computer, so you can leave your Xbox wherever it is, lounge room etc. or wherever.

The 360 can do all that and more just with updated hardware and look of course, and most importantly updated games.

PM me if you want some links to the shit you can do, it's really quite amazing, even things like changing the LED's on the Xbox ring light, or the controllers, you can personalise it to the way you want, even give it a custom Candy Apple Red paint job if you really want! lol.

Basically it's always been a PC in a console really, so you're kind of just enabling all those things by modding it.

In regards to which one has more drift/simulator games?

Well, honestly the PS2 easily has the most, but 99% of them are all beyond SHIT!

The only game 'close' to a simulator on the PS consoles would be the GT series, and GT3 is no f**king sim, I tell you that much, even GT4 is pretty far off. How they can get away with calling it "The Real Driving Simulator" I don't know, as the low speed car behaviour physics, are as laughable at what the NFS series of games has become since the golden days (golden days, being "The Need for Speed 1"). It's a decent game, and I actually bought all of them up to Gran Turismo 4, so even though I am 100% anti-Sony these days, it isn't causing a bias in my view. But technically... GT ain't no sim. The only sim games really, are on PC - games like Nascar 2003, rFactor, Live for Speed, GTRI-II, GPL, GTL...

They are sims definately, and if you want one of the best drift experiences, get yourself a good steering wheel for PC (Logitech MOMO at the minimum, which can be picked up for $50 these days second hand in Perfect condition) and download Live for Speed, you can play it free, enough to get a feel for the game and even do some crazy drifting. It will also run on a system as low as a Celeron 2.4GHz, with 512MB RAM and an onboard video card, many laptops can run it also. You won't beat it for drift on either console, seriously.

BUT Forza 2 comes close.

And now I'll get onto Forza again. Wicked game, it's basically what Gran Turismo SHOULD be. It's got very good car physics/behaviour, low-speed eats GT alive, you can do proper donuts/burnouts, maneuvres etc. and the car behaves as it should at low-speeds, something enthusiasts fully know and realise GT does NOT do properly AT ALL. It's nothing big (it is to me though) but Forza also has much better effects like smoke, and it leaves tire marks on the road, from when you lose traction. So you can see how perfect your donuts are. I'm going on about this like it's something huge, BUT it is, when a game is meant to be a sim, and it behaves how ANY of the GT series games behave at low speeds.... the 'sim' tag should be thrown in the re-development bin till it's fixed.

Not just that, in general GT is behind Forza in all around physics and car behaviour...

This is all based on experience playing the game with a good wheel/pedal setup and the every now and then quick game with a controller at a mates house or whatever. Not just that, but look around the net, and there are MANY comparisons on the two games, and most conclusions come out with Forza as the better game. There are many comparison videos also, showing things like I mentioned, the differences between low-speed car physics for example, among everything else.

But probably one of the most important bits of the game where Forza shines, is in vehicle modifications, it shits on GT then throws up on it.

You can do anything you could want to, where GT is missing those little bits that make you go "wtf? why didn't they put such an obvious feature here???" Forza has them gold plated, for example you can put different engines into different cars, just like real life. And then modify aspects of that. It has much better and more body modifications also, the fact that you can change the colour of your car to something other than what you can choose at the car dealer is a big bonus, and another of those "wtf??" moments you have in GT.

I could go on for ages, and even though I'm anti-Sony, I traded my Xbox1 for a PS2 at one point, when I still thought the PS2 was king... boy was that the biggest mistake I ever made? Hell yeah.... especially since it was not long before Forza came out.

Oh before I forget, SOUND! One of the most important aspects... something that's actually shocked me about the GT series, it seems like they've used the same sounds in all the games since GT1! They are pathetic, a looped skidding sound, for any loss of traction, that gets annoying real quick. Forza has great sounds, and at least has more than 1 generic turbo/BOV sound.

GT is a great example of why I have such an anti-Sony view.

Eg. They make something good enough for the general public to enjoy, yet leave out some things that are so obviously required that just make you think... "They must have either just forgot this... or it will be in the next one" The next one comes along, still missing obvious things, yet you go, "oh ok they added all this new stuff, but still forgot those basics that are simply required" maybe next one... next one comes along with new features, yet still lacking the base department (something in the core of the game) and you just think. Ok so this is number 4 - it's still missing all this basic stuff that SHOULD be addressed and just SHOULD be in the game, yet they add these quality visuals, and half-useless features (Photo-mode, which I actually love) BUT STILL forget to address things that should've been fixed up in GT2 ffs and just keep going on.

And then on top of that, they will release a "Prologue" version... this is the biggest joke of all.

Releasing what is essentially a demo of a game (that would normally be FREE to try) there is not another game that does some silly bs like this that I know of, anyway yeah, release a demo, charge 2/3's of the price of the final product, for something containing less than 1/4 of the features of the final product. Bunch of idiots buy it, then buy the game, and make them a shitload more money for nothing... while they "polish up" and yet again forget some of the most important bits to fix for the final product and then claim it's the ultimate of ultimates, when in fact a cheaper "Made in China" product has better quality for a lower price, if you know what I mean.

They are money-hungry greedy a-holes - I mean why else would you create a digital camera or mp3 player or whatever that REQUIRES ONLY SONY COMPLIANT Hardware? Eg the memory stick pro's which costs at least twice as much as any other form of flash memory card for the same quantity of storage? No benefit.. while everyone else goes with something that is universal with nearly everything else you may need to use etc?

Car Audio is one of the worst cases of this shit also.

Some marketing monkey figured that the "Xplod" branding will cause retards to buy there stuff in huge quantities (because that's what you need to get anything decent out of it) and it will be like hot fire. And it was, pity then that you could buy something 50% cheaper that could handle and would go through more than the Xplods ever could...

But it doesn't have as good a name, so people won't buy on research and technical specifications, but rather to look 'cool' with there new Xplod gear, because (I guess) they figured, damn it would be awesome to show the boys an Xplosion (which half the time, they did) lol...

Anyway enough of the rant, I hope some people can learn from this and maybe do some research before buying something next time just because it's Sony it must be good.

Sony slogan for this century should be:

Sony. Get over it.

Comparing the PS3 hardware to the Xbox 360 is easy: PS3 wins.

The blu-ray technology is what tips it. HD-DVD is kaput, and being able to fit 50gb on a disc means that when people start coding for the PS3 exclusively, they have much more data to play with. Having played Call Of Duty 4 on X360 and PS3, the PS3 one seemed smoother and more detailed, but not to a ridiculous level. GTAIV should be a good test also.

Having said that, it's all about the games.

Forza Vs Gran Turismo is what it boils down to in car sims. Forza wins, but GT is not, by any means, disgraced.

A major advantage of the PS3 though, is the backward compatability of the 60gb consoles. (The current 40gb do not have this ability). And being able to play blu-rays.

If you were thinking of getting a blu-ray player, use the PS3. It's cheaper, and in many ways better than most blu-rays on the market. To get the most out of this you'll need a HDMI capable wide screen plasma.

go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_vi...h_generation%29 for a stat run-down

The short though:

Ram: X-Box

Graphics memory: PS3

Graphics Processing speed: PS3 (550mz vs 500mHz, so it's close.)

Media storage: Ps3. HD-DVD was for movies only, so going forward, some games will probably want to take advantage of the extra storage space available on blu-ray discs.

But, Xbox Live is so much better than Playstation home. At least, for now.

If you want a media station, get a PS3. If it's all about the games, and only the games. X-box is the king at the moment, but be prepared to upgrade in the next 6-9 months.

What kind of $$ are you looking to pay for a 360? I have a unmodified 360 with Project Gotham Racing. It has 2 controllers and 1 TV remote plus all cables and original box. Has probably had less than 50 hours game play at a guess hence why I am not desperate to get rid of it.

Was thinking of ebaying it as I wouldnt mind a PS3. Am in Melbourne BTW. PM if you prefer.

God damn this guy REALLY hates Sony! lol

  • 3 weeks later...
God damn this guy REALLY hates Sony! lol

LOL, it's true - but it's mainly from personal experience (shocking personal experience, with all things Sony related), aswell as all the other bs, the rootkits etc. are bad enough. Then you have the shitload of other horror stories, if you do a thorough search, you'll notice Sony probably has more complaints than half the unknown Chinese companies, making the rip-off products have.

Sony's car audio is one of the biggest jokes, ask anyone that has HALF a clue, and one of the first things they'll mention is to stay away from Sony's gear, if they don't they're on the payroll.

For such a big/well known/supposedly top of the range company, they have one of the worst customer satisfaction rates around, and customer service is barely heard of, it's ridiculous.

The fact is, they sell SO much stuff, that of course there'll be some defective products, BUT it's not that, most of the time you are paying for something sub-par, for the price. What I mean is, some of there hardware is actually not bad, but it's the fact that you pay a premium for it because it's "SONY" and expect to get what you pay for, when really you can get better for cheaper and from a different brand, but so many people don't want to risk going with someone else, because they think Sony is going to be the be-all of anything and can't go wrong. My friend knows all too well, just bought a HD Sony LCD 40" screen, only to be disappointed that a Samsung he could've got cheaper looks better (in his eyes) and would've been 46" rather than 40". Only he went with Sony because he's paranoid and thought Sony would guarantee a good purchase, simply because it's Sony and now he's spewing, I warned him, he didn't listen. Most people don't... and they pay the price in the end... which is my cue for a good laugh, unfortunately there's nothing else I can do except laugh, ESPECIALLY the times when I have mentioned to people to check there options.

But yes, I really do hate Sony.

Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't complain with a Sony Bravia HD LCD, only if I wasn't paying for it that is.

Another Sony horror story, the VAiO laptops, gotta be the worse laptops ever created/released, they are not the WORST out there now, but still one of the worst choices available, and the first releases were ridiculous. I could've made better build quality, and yes, I made the stupid mistake of buying one, even though it was a bargain and second hand, it was still shithouse, the respective Acer was better - and Acer are renowned for being one of the worst hardware choices available for any of there PC hardware they have. Not so much these days... but shit few years ago it's amazing they didn't go out of business. I still wouldn't even buy one of there LCD monitors which are meant to be pretty decent these days, I just wouldn't take the risk, on the track record. And have heard/seen many come out of the box with dead/stuck pixels still...

So yeah :/
