if they can sell it at 70-80k .. which will most definetly be at profit (obviously) then the only reason they can sell it for DOUBLE the price here is the fact that sufficient people are willing to pay exhorbitant prices for the car. The same reason we (australians) pay more for everything is simple, it hasnt changed in quite some time... WE EXPECT to pay mor for everything... what is industry going to keep thier prices low.... yea that'll ever happen... the perception we will pay more is what the problem is... obviosuly they can produce and deliver tihs vehicle at a decent price... but we will pay double for ideas like these... that we SHOULD be paying more... I have yet to hear any reason why we should.. if they are released over 80k here I dead set hope they fail misserably. I think it's rediculous.... btw I would love to enjoy this vehicle... but money has value to me and i bloody hate this trumped up crappy aus market pricing shiz... seriously.. our market is utter crap with laws designed to protect a few big boys THAT ARENT AUSTRALIAN!!! the whole point was to protect the LOCAL industry... tel me... what local industry... we have assembly plants .. though GM + associated group are using some local designs .. thats it...

exclusivety? go for something exotic that is made out of expensive materials that is so overly engineered its atleast almost worth 1/3 the price and well your brand name means allot to you.. oh wait.. its a nissan... wtf... price it 80-90 and make a killing... it's not like 80-90% of people COULD spend that on a car.. let alone would want to spend it on a 2 door .. or an all out performance oriented vehcile.. even if it does way 3/4 a tonne vehicle....

Why do you lot think it would cost so much more to deliver to aus.. they already do deliver cars to aus reasonably....

the car is by all means legal to drive here.. short of hte red tape for any new model.....

aus dealer's charge an extra fortune in markup because no one wants to buy new... because the overly rediculous markups.. cycle of crap.

You are missing the point.

1: Nissan aren't a charity organisation. They exist to make a profit. That is similarly true of the dealers. So they will price the car to make the most amount of money for the business.

2: Compared to the horrific tarrifs & quotas that existed in the 70's & 80's there is almost nothing left of the protection Australian car manufacturers used to have in Australia. 10% tarriffs (excluding countries with which we have FTA's such as Thailand where you HIlux comes from) is hardly punitive. Least of all with the Australian dollar at its present level.

As you've said, Nissan's not here as a charity. It's simple, Nasssan Oz will sell the GTR at a price they deem the market will pay.

If the car is going to be priced at over 140K, when it's selling in Japan for UNDER 100k, I just wouldn't be able to justify buying it locally. I dare say most other people would be in the same boat. Nissan are going to end up with people importing the cars rather than buying them locally (assuming they'll one day be registrable). OK, yes we have taxes etc. that still doesn't justify a 75% markup as some have hinted. Supply & demand, sure. This car is for enthusiasts, they should be aiming to sell to the enthusiast. IMO that's just not happening here in Aus.

hahhaa, Nissan "Brighton" (probably bentleigh technically)... i get my fuel/oil filters from there and there is a snowball's chance in hell of the GTR going to a dump like that.

It has a shared service desk with HYUNDAI for goodness sakes!!! As in, a Nissan guy sits one side and helps the Nissan customers, and a Hyundai guys sits about 2 metres to the right and serves the grandma excel driver who came in to check why there is some sort of "oil" light flashing on her dash.

Realistically, there are NO nissan stealerships capable of selling this car..... BUT, if Melbourne were to have one, i would say Ferntree Gully Nissan is the only place that has a remote chance of getting one. It's some sort of "Platinum" stealership, that often wins best Southern Hemisphere stealership awards, etc... or something like that. I've never been there, but my guess would be Ferntree Gully for Melbourne, and maybe Blackburn.

I reckon they should just rent out some small workshop or premises near the city, nice glass frontage with space for 1 or 2 GTR's, nice little cafe/waiting area... most room dedicated to the servicing area, and poach some people from BMW/Porsche/Merc to work there (front desk).

I would have to say Ferntree Gully Nissan also. Having taken my m35 a couple of times (passanger side front wheel bearing assembly and some other stuff I could not do myself like resetting ECU), I can vouch for their professionalism and they treat you as if your car is the most important on the planet (at least at the "new car service"... Don't touch the used car service guys).

They are great on parts that need to be brought over (1 week for said bearing assemble) and will always quote a price and stick to it (new car service ONLY).

Nothing but praise for those boys... no I don't work there.

Also, I think that their awards were for being having the highest customer satisfaction from 2003-2006 for service globally.

If you have a read of Luxury car tax that is straight off the ATO web site you will see the rulings for Private Import for personal use paying at the docks and if a dealer with an ABN it is paid at time of delivery.

Now for the Key Board Warriors who have no idea what margins a new vehicle dealership averages out the simple answer is "If you sold new cars only and didn't offer after care service you would go broke".

A local Nissan Dealer will make less at time of delivery out of an R35 GTR then a Grey Import Dealer but who is offering the factory warranty and paid the $120,000 for the workshop equipment.

Their must be to many IT people on the forum this afternoon wasting time till the end of the day............. :wub:

that's interesting as no stealership could officially be selling any (even in anticipation), there is no official "queue" only the ability to "express interest".

they haven't even announced 1) when the f*ck they're coming 2) how many are coming 3) who will be selling them 4) how many will go to each stealership (if they use the stealership network)

i'm aware stealerships have been taking deposits, but good f*cking luck with that... a deposit means jack shit at this stage and doesn't guarantee you anything.

Will be interesting to see if Nissan Au can indeed get their act together before the end of the 18 months from the Japan on-sale date. Given how the UK media outlets (everyone check out the latest issue of EVO) have been raving about the way the R35 slays the much more expensive competition; demand for the car is sure to well out-strip supply. With the on sale date for the U.S being this July, and the U.K and Europe next March, It'll be interesting to see if Nissan HQ actually reserves any cars for the Australian market as planned. Here's hoping they make 'em wait juuust a few days or weeks too long :D

Only time will tell of course, but Nissan Australia gave us a poster of the R35 for us to put in our dealership, so they definitely have some plans for the car here.

all our calculations of the personal import price estimate take the 8% increase in LCT into account. if they are listed at $150K by Nissan in Australia, then that price will also be LCT inclusive.

Going of the FEB 2008 statement from the ATO you will be paying at least $163,400 if calculating in all of the real factors including ORC and LCT and if from a dealer be it Nissan or Grey Importer going on a sale price of $160,000 it will be $194,000 drive away so if people think it will be $150,000 inclusive of ORC and LCT please post your figures and references.

Beating the LCT by 2 weeks would save more then a pretty penny that is for sure so well done their, one less world trip for some politician in Canberra.

ahh cmon. as if they will lose any sales because it is 165k not 150k. fact is if you are in that market you can afford the LCT increase, at least butters from southpark aka our new pm got that right. You would still need to pay twice as much to the lovely germans at porsche to go at the same speed

Lot of people complaining about the R35 pricing and availability situation. C'mon...stop having a sook. If you can afford the $$$$ for a new GTR dont whinge about it. If you cant, stop sooking and either work harder or be happy for the guys that will have a new toy to play with.

all the Porkers are slower, actually- according to all the U.K magazine reviews (bar maybe the Carrera GT, on some circuits)
