Hopefully someone knows this off the top of their head: I'm about to buy a camera for Wakefield. I've found one for pretty cheap and kinda keen to grab it tonight if someone can confirm for sure if the Wakefield supervisors are OK with (internal) suction mounted cameras? I ask because I heard somewhere they used to allow them and now don't. I'd ring and ask them myself tomorrow, but don't wanna miss this one out.

This is the model I'm looking at: the Motorsports Hero on here http://www.goprocamera.com/

It can mount to a windscreen (front or rear) or any typical racing helmet (but I'd be using it on the windscreen).

EDIT: Found out: No. Also no spectators on pit lane whatsoever, racing or not, signed in or not, paid or not, NO - not allowed.

So 5h1tty @ the new rules.

Cams rules have changed. If it's a CAMS day and your camera weighs more than 100grams, it need to be in a inclosed frame/box, unless the camera is mounted to the floor (*shrugs about that rule).

If it's not a CAMS day, what ever that other racing body is, you'll have to check their rules.

Michele didnt have any dramas at an autosports track day at wakie, so i cant see it being a drama.

I haven't had any probs in the past, however its changed hands and rules have changed. I don't think they'll mind at all and there's a hundred other places to use it. Go for it.

They won't let you stand near the wall at Pit Straight anymore, you can't even cross the road.

That's an awesome camera sl33py!!

I've been looking off and on for about a year trying to find a video camera to use at the skidpan and motorkhana's that is also waterproof.

Where can we get one of these in Australia?

Does anyone else have something similar?

I spoke to the manager today. You're not allowed to have any camera on or in your car unless it's bolted down and/or in a cage. No suction mounts. I wish I'll have to ring them before Wednesday and find out if you can actually stand and watch at the barrier. If you can't there's no point going to track unless you're taking part :D

What... that was the whole point of going to Wakefield. Nothing dangerous ever happened to my knowledge.

Yeah the best photos were from there, but you can't cross the big white line now :D

sfrizza: Yeah, I'm particularly impressed by the quality/smoothness of the clips and simplicity/functionality. You can get them on eBay, either locally or from the US. From the US is, I think, about 70-80 less all told. I'm just trying to nail down a suitable headrest mount - am waiting on a reply from a US retailer, who says the GoPro doesn't have a 1/4" bolt hole on the underside like most cameras. Will let you know how it goes.

I made my own camera mount using existing holes. All out of cheap aluminum from bunnings.

Check out my vids on youtube

The lastest video is from Gokarting, where it was mounted on my helmet.

Thats some insanely impressive footage, if its hasn't been touched up :P

Color sat, light change sensitivity and shock resistance is outa control for the price! *checks bank balance*

I've just ordered that camera, and the "Cruise Cam" headrest mount. the GoPro doesn't have a 1/4" bolt hole like most cameras, so I'm hoping to use the very high bond tape to attach it to the mount (hopefully in a removable way that will let me use the other mounts when not on the track). Will let you guys know how it goes. Cost a little over 300aud delivered, so if it works well... !

BTW, just confirmed something else: Noone is allowed to stand on pitwall whatsoever now. Paid, unpaid, signed in or not. Not allowed. GHEY.

Err Keith, the fact that the whole group I know who went last week were forced by Wakefield staff to go up and stand/sit near the first corner instead of standing on pitwall, even though they were all paid up and registered drivers on the day, would suggest otherwise. And that was a speed off the streets day, not a track day. AND I rang and asked Adam Ronke to ask and confirm, because I didn't want to go if I couldn't even see what was happening. So no lies here.
