last night i did a bit of a wog trick and took of my air box that feeds air into the filter via the air scoop under the bonnet.

by doing this the air filter is now exposed to the engine bay, and taped down to make sure it doesnt fall off.

i noticed a not significant, but noticable change in performance as well as what i like to call a "sick" sound when i hit the throttle.

is this bad for the car in any way, i dont see how it can be.

and

if i get something like a K&R filter, will i notice even more of a performance change?:

Well definitely, hot air is not good.......just like that....

get a pod filter and make a shield for it by your self, pretty easy............if your car is turbo, then by putting a pod will make a woooooooosh wooooosh woooooooooosh sound :) , but dont forget to put a shield ya.....

just cause u made a cool as shield for urself, doesnt mean everyone else can :/

coz i cant... :(

heheh its not easy when you think about it, but very easy when you start doing it :D , so get your lazy arse down there and start making that heat shield hehehe :D

im not entirely sure what this thread is about exactly, but i'm sure whatever you want to do to the intake it's been covered many times before.

do you often often open a thread with only 8 posts and decide you need to ad a comment without even reading the first one, or if you did read the first one you still think you should post a reply although you still have no idea what the thread is about and have nothing to ad to it but still feel the need to ad some piece of useless bullshit??

but still feel the need to ad some piece of useless bullshit??

#1 - hypocrite much?

#2 - if you already hadn't guessed i was typing in sarcasm

#3 - the original post is quite rhetorical if you had bothered to read it properly

#4 - i was hinting at the fact that there are a myriad of other threads looking into the positive gains of heat shielding and providing ambient/cooler air to the intake

You think a white case will be cooler (in temperature) lol, than a black case?
my limited physics understanding (which is stuff all tongue.gif ) is that black is a better emitter of infrared energy i.e. heat. check out kirshoff's law, it says something along the lines that good absorbers of energy are good emitters (re-radiates it), thus conducting and transferring the heat much better from the engine block and other components, headers, head, etc.

however white reflects heat/energy, and thus the the heat is reflected/transferred back onto the parts you want to keep cool.

it's early and i think that should cover it. however let me state there is quite a fair bit of speculation and what actually happens, a lot of people say that the above can all be void since the bonnet (minus the cowl) reflects over 90% of the radiant energy back anyway.

or it could all just be due to hiding oil leaks tongue.gif
